Tk maxx - what's the point?

The one near me and the one near my office only sells complete trash, no real "designer" wear and some of the clothes are so badly made but never priced below £40 a pop. The beauty section is ok but even that isn't worth it. They used to have nicer clothes that were easier to think - ok that's a steal.

I do like homesense and their home gear but the rest of it is trash.

I think it depends on where it is too - certainly I've noticed the central London and High St Kensington stores have a better selection than the suburban stores. My most recent buy was a pair of black suede Ted & Muffy ankle boots for £30.

I agree that TKs is a bit hit and miss but they're pretty good for makeup, hair care and skincare, and lingerie.

Yes London ones a bit better.
Recent bargains include tweed fitted jacket great evening bag and stationary stuff oh and fab cat bowls.
My teenager always gets decent stuff- think she bunks off double PE in there.

Very definitely not nearly as good as it used to be, shoes are a particular nightmare all incorrect sizes on them, agree about the price of the bags very expensive and a bit tacky;now feel you have to be very lucky to find anything really worth having which is a shame as it used to be so much better.

I got a huuugggeee gorgeous Vivienne Westwood pashmina/wool shawl from there a few years ago and often pick up their Calvin Klien underwear for £10 bra/£4 knickers. Love their homeware.

Hate it and gave up on it years ago. Overpriced and sizing erratic

Forgot to add VW shawl was only £30.

The gym stuff is ok in my local but never find much else. I used to love it.

Sad if it's gone downhill. I haven't been for a year but when you can go regularly, if there's one near your tube or weekly appointment it's great.
I regularly had time to kill near one in a very grim area and got a stunning Vivienne Westwood dress for £79 down from £440 an Anna Purna shell jacket for £29 and several gifts that were just perfect- receiving blankets, I needed something very light to post for a baby shower and some crystal carafes for under £10.
All our lamps are from there- modern fashionable ie £300 from Peter Jones, only £29 and our towels.

I got a couple of linen Jaeger jumpers earlier this year which I have worn solidly since, and always go there for homewears and the odd leather bag. But the clothing is all too much of a rummage normally.

I always get my running stuff from there but never even look at the normal clothes.

Home stuff and kids toys/books are good. I can spend hours pottering and I think it's great for Xmas.

Agree the clothes aren't up to much though. Stuff I've bought have been non-names and haven't lasted past a few washes.

There are certain times when they seem to get a lot of new stuff in. I've bought some great stuff there. I regret not buying the Valentino silk blouse a few years ago though.

I can see both sides. I find that most of it is horrifically bad, with the occasional real gem - New Balance running capris, Fred Perry tweed dress, Vulpine merino cycling top. But you have to sift through an awful lot of dross.

Timing - you have to get the timing right, and like a rummage - have had more than a few good deals from there even over the past year. TBF the "rrp" actually has been correct when I've checked up online. (Bag reduced from £470 to £80 for example or a top reduced from £250 to £50). Their dress section is fairly dire though.

I also like that the bulk of the shampoos/cream/body stuff tends to be cruelty free.

I agree it's like a sport. I don't have one that near but I do enjoy having a rummage, just in case you find a gem. Was in one for the first time in ages recently and the bags were rubbish, but they had some nice scarves and good kitchen things. The clothes are very hit and miss. Am still annoyed I didn't buy an Acquascutum trench for about £70 about 5 years ago. Saw a lovely navy Coach trench for £130 the other day.
It can be good for cold weather coats and puffas. I've started looking at the labels to see what the materials are when I'm not sure about the labels. The thrill of finding a hidden gem will keep me going back!

2 x Boden skirts £2 each in final clearance (straight on ebay)

Above has cleared up my confusion as to how a seller on eBay can have two identical pieces of clothes listed as new with tags but in different sizes. I never figured it out until now.

Regarding TKMaxx I have always hated it and it doesn't appeal as I'm not into branded clothes. I wander in once a year if I'm killing time. I bought a yoga mat in there once which was fine. I bought DH a pair of ''French Connection' socks which tore the day he wore them. I was so annoyed I returned them. The two near me are messy, uninviting shops with seemingly no method or reason to the way they hang their clothes. Sports clothes, nightwear and glitzy tops all on the one rail.

I haven't been there since I bought the socks but have since seen the tv programme about how their clothes aren't genuine at all.

I love it Smile
I like the fact that you'll find different things each time you go.
I've been looking for a tan leather tote for ages, I went in today and there it was!

But there is a lot of crap in there too Wink

I can rarely face rummaging through all the clothes (there is indeed a LOT of dross) but have had some gems over the last couple of years, all massively reduced:
Levi Demi Curve jeans
Leopard print Superga
Liberty print Vans
Elie Tahari (?) black cashmere cardi
Nuxe moisturiser
Posh candles and reed diffusers (can't remember brands, but well known and lovely)
Ultrasun sun cream
Missoni scarf

They also do lovely soaps and shower gels, and the bags are often worth a look. But some stores are definitely more "jumbly" than others.

I've got some great candles from there. Genuinely marked down - easy to check RRP elsewhere.

Also got Converse boots for £19.99 and kids' stuff is great. Other good finds: stationery, toiletries and last buy was a pair of Skechers trainers for DC (half price).

It's one of those 'grey day, spare hour' browsing places for me.

For all those saying items bought were genuinely marked down, I can't understand how people can say this when the items are not made to the same quality as genuinely branded items in the first instance.
