From everything I've ever read, no over the counter retinol concentration will be high enough to do anything; but sunscreen is necessary.

But most of it's genes and luck.

Dont agree.

When I eat rubbish my skin reacts immediately ,within a couple of hours. Lumps, bumps and spots.

When I eat well (nearly always) I look good.

oliveoil · 24/01/2007 11:50

Booze makes skin bad, not food imo

many women experience skin problems in their 40's because of higher testosterone levels (often stress-induced)

bundle · 24/01/2007 11:53

have bought the Boots dermabrasion kit (hard core, for me ) because skin looking dodgy in this weather. anyone tried it?

motherinferior · 24/01/2007 11:54

I continue to pin my hopes on Neal's Yard Rosehip stuff, Bundle, combined with an Eve Lom cloth.

bundle · 24/01/2007 11:55

dh brought home free goody bag last night, with liz earle cleanse & polish with cloth. and some elemis stuff. haven't tried them yet.

Lorina · 24/01/2007 11:55

I'm not arguing , I'm just saying that my personal experience is different.

Most of the woman I know ( inc me) had spots after christmas from the choc fest and general gluttony. I dont think its that unusual

oliveoil · 24/01/2007 11:55

I got some free stuff from Origins - white something or other - and it is very good

I don't think you can go wrong with Olay myself. They have a new one out atm but not tried it yet.

bundle · 24/01/2007 11:56

tried neal's yard moisturiser once (can't remember which one) and it wasn't that impressive. bought dh some frankincense cream stuff (girls liked the idea of We Three Kings themed present..)

Lorina · 24/01/2007 11:57

Elemis is fantastic stuff.

Except for their sticky neck cream ,thats like glue.

Enid · 24/01/2007 11:58

I am deffo having botox

puddle · 24/01/2007 11:58

Neals yard foaming cleanser is lovely.

i use Liz`Earle too which is good.

I have found my skin is much more sensitive recently (have just turned 40) is that what you mean by the testosterone probs Bundle?

I bough DH frankinsense moisturiser at Xmas too!

Lorina · 24/01/2007 12:01

I am thinking of getting a couple of lines on my forehead botoxed.

Dh doesnt want me too .He looks ancient compared to me already (lack of skincare I expect ..)

Marina · 24/01/2007 12:03

Eve Lom cleanser is the tops. I am a total convert even though you could go on a mini-break for the cost of the Big Tub.
Treated myself to a Dr Hauschka Rose cream and it brought me out in fetching blotches immediately.
I get on best with Clarins moisturisers but can't tolerate retinol at all
So just as well I have non-wrinkly genes I guess

decafskinnylatte · 24/01/2007 12:06

I agree, Lorina. Eating good stuff and drinking tonnes of water does make for better skin (but also don't think that the odd bit of chocolate causes spots)

Enid · 24/01/2007 12:07

I might dare to try my Eve Lom again

it aggravated my attractive post baby acne

(which touch wood has disappeared - have been using oil free everything and god my skin looks old )

decafskinnylatte · 24/01/2007 12:08

p.s. has anyone been remotely tempted by creme de la mer? I always linger at the counter whenever I pass.....

Lorina · 24/01/2007 12:09

I had a Dr H rose moisturiser for christmas but I havent tried it yet ,but I think I will patch test it on my inner elbow tonight now.

Dr H packaging very unappealing ,like toothpaste tubes or something from the vet

lucykate · 24/01/2007 12:09
