Teva sandals. Hideous? Comfortable? I just don't know

I'm hoping to go to Vegas in August. It's going to be hot and there will be a lot of walking. I have Skechers Go Walks and Bob's (like Toms with a memory foam sole) but I want some comfy open toe shoes too. I can't wear toe post shoes. I've got some Birkenstocksbehind I love but because they're hard soles I find them uncomfortable after a while.
So I was looking at these Teva sandals
Are they hideous? If they are but they're also comfortable I don't think I care so are they comfy?

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to get some. Maybe the leather or maybe a white pair of the originals.
I know what people mean about Vegas, we've been a few times and yes, every type of person is there, it's definitely not a fashion parade for most people. I just want comfort. So the Tevas it is I think.

Another quick question for those who have them. What's the sizing like? Do they come up small or big or about right?
My feet are about a 7.5 so should I go for a 7 or an 8?

I was expecting not to but I actually really like them. They're nicer than the fabric ones, and I definitely prefer them to Saltwaters.

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 06/07/2016 18:23

I'm on to my second pair of leather walking shoes by Teva so I obviously don't think they're hideous. They're the nicest ones I've found for doing proper hiking in that are fine for everyday stuff too.

These are the ones I've got, which were available quite cheaply on Amazon:

I bought the white originals from Asos. Thank you Empress for that link.
They have flatforms on sale too Neckless Grin

I think they look fine I'd wear them Grin

BringMeTea · 06/07/2016 22:46

Well. I think you've answered your own question OP. They are fugly AND comfortable. I have saltwaters. I can walk lots in them but they will not have anything on the comfort factor of tevas. As a compromise I have seen a few people recommend Toms version of saltwaters. Might be worth a punt?

AmberNectarine · 06/07/2016 23:30

Tevas actually aren't the fashion wilderness - they enjoyed quite the Renaissance last year.

elliefredericksen · 07/07/2016 07:32

A complete tangent, but I always notice on these "what do I wear abroad" threads that a lot of recommendations are influenced by UK fashion and trends, which will be completely irrelevant and go unnoticed in lots of countries - the US especially. In a large populated area there are all the types of people wearing all the clothes. We really won't stand out in whatever we wear. In fact, lots of recommendations e.g. Saltwater sandals, might be considered hideous elsewhere (say, glamorous Italian cities or high bling middle east). Yet for us, the message they convey is different.

Not really sure what I'm trying to say, but it's probably something deeper about the psychology of fashion that I'm not really qualified to talk about.

The flip side of course is that most high street brands are actually worldwide, and so clothes from Zara will be seen everywhere, which would help us to assimilate into the culture.

Anyway, I think the Tevas are a great idea, I have them and I think comfort should trump fashion everytime, for all the reasons I've stated. Have a great time in Vegas.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/07/2016 07:35

I like them!

I don't know how people can like Saltwaters and not them Confused

Fairylea · 07/07/2016 07:45

Ellie has a very good point.

Op wear whatever is comfortable. Whatever is fashionable here won't necessarily be there, so I'd go for whatever is going to let you enjoy your holiday the most.

I remember going to the USA many years ago and having to stop off at a mall on the way to where I was going and having to buy practically a whole new suitcase full of stuff as I stupidly hadn't realised how hot it was going to be and everything I packed was ridiculous. I lived in stuff I wouldn't be seen dead in here.

I actually quite like Teva sandals anyway. If they are on Asos and Schuh they must be trendy, if you're into trends. Saltwaters are the "in" thing right now but the soles are ridiculously hard, no padding whatsoever. On a side note, Clarks have a sale at the moment. Lots of comfy sandals there!

CowVersusMouse · 07/07/2016 07:47

Duchess can you wear the leather ones on the beach / in the sea or do they go funny?

EmzDisco · 07/07/2016 07:49

I have 2 pairs of teva flatforms I bought when heavily pregnant last year and can confirm they are extremely comfy!

KoalaDownUnder · 07/07/2016 08:27

See, I think the Saltwaters look waaaayyy nicer, although I can't imagine they'd be comfortable (too flat and hard).

The tractor-y sole and that Velcro-y look on the uppers (is it actually Velcro?) on the Tevas are what makes them look awful: so 'purely functional'. Like something you'd wear trekking with those quick-dry pants that zip off at the knee, and hairy legs.

Anyway, each to their own! (And as we've established, I am no style icon Grin).

Glitteryfrog · 07/07/2016 08:29

I like them and I like the way they styled then with jeans.
I wore Birkenstocks in Vegas - but I'd broken them in and they only hurt when we were into hour 15 of wandering around casinos... but I think by that stage anything would have hurt.

NicknameUsed · 07/07/2016 08:36

Expat's post is spot on. When walking around in a hot climate you need to focus on comfort above anything else. I also agree about not bothering with trousers. Jeans are so uncomfortable in hot weather. Leave them at home.

We are off to Florida next week, and I will be wearing soft harem pants on the plane and will consign them to my case until the journey home. It will be shorts, skirts and dresses while we are there, plus really comfortable footwear.

I agree with Ellie as well. I don't understand why we agonise so much over fashion when having sore feet or feeling uncomfortably hot is the price to pay for looking "stylish", because if you look uncomfortable you won't look stylish anyway.

Glitteryfrog · 07/07/2016 08:41

But Vegas is a funny one. You don't spend much time outside.
If you were going to hop in a taxi to another casino to watch a show you could wear jeans and mega high heels no probs.
If you're going to go for a wander up the strip and visit each one and have a look at the weirdness you need to be dressed for the heat and for walking miles.

fitflopqueen · 07/07/2016 08:45

I live in fit flops when doing lots of walking esp Vegas, the soles are much more comfy then anything else including trainers.
Fitflop have a sale on www.fitflop.co.uk/en/womens/womens-sandals/fitflop-z-strap-leather-sandals-black-%7C-official-fitflop-store/190035031916.html

Germgirl · 07/07/2016 09:09

Ooh I like those FitFlops. I've bought the white Tevas, I'm not really bothered what I look like in Vegas as I know it's going to be incredibly hot and all I really care about is staying cool and my feet being comfy. But I will want to wear them at home too. But like I said, I'm hardly a fashion icon, I'm a dumpy middle aged woman so I think I'll get away with it :)
We will walk a lot in Vegas, dh likes to tramp up & down the strip a lot and of course even getting around the hotels and casinos takes a fair bit of walking. We will also probably visit the Grand Canyon which will involve a bit more walking.
I have plenty of cool clothing, because I'm still fat I can't wear clothes that expose me too much (well I know I can, but I don't want to) but I have shorts and t shirts and a couple of very light dresses with short sleeves that I'll never date to wear at home but will wear over there.
I have one pair of cut off jeans (knee length), they're very lightweight so I will take them but if they're too hot I won't wear them.
I'm wearing harems on the plane too! Some 3/4 length Pineapple ones that I think are quite nice, I think they'll be perfect for an 11 hour flight.
Quite excited now. Except I'm currently near enough bed bound with abdo pain. I'm really hoping I'm a bit better by the time we go.
Thanks everyone, I shall wear my Tevas with pride!
and probably buy those FitFlops too Grin

Oh. Wait.

Have just seen the white Tevas. Me likey!! A lot. Grin

I think I'm taking back everything I just said. and might even buy some.

Have fun in Vegas anyway, OP (jealous).

KoalaDownUnder · 07/07/2016 09:24

Re: Grand Canyon - if you haven't been before, you must!! It was my favourite place in the US - amazing!!!

Cakescakescakes · 07/07/2016 09:25

I like the Tevas!

ShatnersBassoon · 07/07/2016 09:30

Those Tevas aren't hideous at all. They're totally unnoticeable, which is perfectly acceptable for a pair of comfortable walking sandals.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/07/2016 09:55

Gabor Lanzarote- great if you are heading towards bunion country.
Fit Flop without toe thingy.
Lots of Skechers.
