Dealing with facial hair

As I get older I find I am getting more and more hairs on my chin. Some of these are quite dark. I also get a number of dark hairs on my upper lip.

Thus far I have been removing these by plucking but they keep on coming. Plucking is painful, fiddle and time consuming, especially as I Have to put my reading glasses on to see the little buggers!

So could I have people's recommendations for the most effective way of dealing with these, without spending an absolute fortune. I have heard people mention these IPL machines but don't understand how they work and whether they actually do the trick

I was lucky enough to get a free Panasonic Ipl machine and it's amazing.
my hairs Grew back lighter and eventually stopped growing.

I have an epistick for top lip, it's brilliant. Can't quite work the technique for chin hairs so I pluck them.

Eyebrows threaded.

the IPL looks great but a bit too ££ for now. Can't justify it when my epistick cost £3.

I have pcos so I bought a Philips lumea. I haven't used it regularly enough to see much difference, and didn't realise you shouldn't pluck between uses. I've started using it twice a week and only shaving in between and after a few weeks I reckon the hairs are regrowing more slowly, but it's not a dramatic change.

I have had this problem too since my mid-40s.
They're fair hairs but I hatethem.
I have tried facial hair removing cream ordinary and sensitive. Very sore and red afterwards.
Waxing-exactly the same outcome.
Bought a facial epilator £20 ish. Rubbish.
I now use a disposal razor and shaving cream once a week now with a bit of tweezing thrown in. Much better and skin looks better. Not sore or red, and no stubble. Read an article in DM and thought would give it a whirl.
Never tried the IPL thing.

Also have eyebrows threaded. Hurts like hell but I think lasts longer than waxing them.

I have some horrible sprouty areas on my chin, and my face gets generally fuzzier with every passing year.

When I first noticed this, I tried a hair removal cream. To begin with it was great - quick, easy and long lasting. But then one day out of the blue, my skin reacted really badly. Had to go out on a dinner date with what looked like severe shaving rash.

At the moment, I just ignore the fuzz, and use a little nasal/ear hair trimmer to whizz over the beardy bits, but I am thinking of doing something else - have been hearing a lot of buzz about face-shaving, but am rather terrified this could make the situation a lot, lot worse!?

OhMyWord, I also read the DM face-shaving article, but as yet am too chicken to try it. Very interested to hear that it's working out well for you.

I pluck, shave, lumea every couple of weeks when I'm doing all my other bits. It's ever ending but I'm just about staying on top of it for now!

Think the trick LazyCake, is to use men's shaving foam cream stuff otherwise probably would end up with a shaving rash.
There is an eyebrow trimmer razory thingy which is supposed to be good too but havent tried that.

I also shave!! I spent loads on waxing, creams etc and as I have gotten older my skin is too sensitive. Like pp poster says I plucked a few of the wiry hairs but the fuzzy fair stuff I take off with a dry Gillette razer. My face is really smooth and hair free. I am so glad I switched to shaving and cannot understand why this way of doing things isn't more acceptable.

No shaving rash at all. Just take razor to dry face.

I go to a salon for waxing, about every six weeks, and it's done in a jiffy, nothing to it.

I guess I am just really nervous of shaving because I always assumed it would make things worse and once I had started I would have to keep going. Am quite surprised to read how common this is.

I am very ignorant of these Lumea / IPL machines and how you use them and how they actually work. If they genuinely do the trick I could probably stretch to one as I have a birthday coming up. I just don't understand enough about them to know if it is right for me I suppose.

IHaveBrilloHair What is this epilate of which you speak. Do you recommend it?

I think an epilator is a device which pluck multiple hairs at a time (hence need to be drunk!).
I use a big bronzer brush swirled In baby powder over my face then use dry razor. I only do this because of using the lumea and I have to do it every single day without fail.

I've been secretly shaving my tache for years, it never grows back stubbly or thicker than before. It takes 2 seconds and is pain free, win win.

I didn't know people were being open about it now though, I told my friend once and she was horrified!

If most of you hair is fair and fluffy definitely shave it off! If you have a lot of coarse hair then don't shave as it will be stubbly. I was really worried the first time but haven't looked back since it really is a cheap quick solution.

Look on YouTube loads of models shave as it gives the best Base for makeup.

I use these on my upper lip and an occasional swish on my chin, though most of my chin hairs are light so I don't bother with those so much. I haven't had any shaving rash with them or noticed them growing back darker or anything. So much easier and less painful than waxing or hair removal cream

I had been an epistuck user but got a Lumea this year for my birthday, in the sales. It's brilliant. Not finished the whole first 8 weeks course yet but just had a 2 week holiday without brining out the razor for armpits or legs!

Used it in a lower setting on my tache and apart from one slight blister on edge of top lip when I zapped the wrong bit ( now use white eyeliner as a lipliner) it appears to be working well.

Money well spent!

Was meaning to post a similar thread. I get my upper lip threaded sometimes and I pluck stubbly thinker hairs but the fine downy ones are really increasing.

I've just ordered those Shiseido facial razors. Thanks for recommendation.

I have tried the other eyebrow razors etc and they are a faff - just get a Gillette and off you go seriously you won't regret it.

I shave too. I do have a full on bread though, used to use cream but noticed my skin was getting horribly pluckered that way, almost looked like burn scars. I did try an epistick but was just too painful. So now every morning it just get a quick shave when I wash. Would love an IPL but there always seems to be something else the money needs spent on!
