Help!! Where do you shop for 13 year old boys clothes?

My eldest ds has asked me to take him shopping for clothes for his birthday. I don't follow fashion particularly and like what I like. He is starting to want to be a bit more fashionable. His dad isn't at all.

I mainly shop for him at H&M and sports shops. He's a gamer but also plays football.

Any advice greatly appreciated? Please don't say Superdry though as I hate labels like that.

God no teens don't wear jackets!

Kenworthington · 21/06/2016 20:07

Demented- ds also wears skinny joggers if that helps??? He also has huge size 10.5 feet!

A blazer and merino jumper! i'm sure Richard de Vere was wearing that on an old episode of To the Manor Born I watched on to last night!

The label Hype is very popular at the moment, and so is apparently the sports label Ellesse.

For lower price clothes, Primark and H and M, mid range, Topshop and River Island, and higher prices, Jack Wills.

Jack and Jones do a good range of clothes and are reasonably priced. I know, they are in House Of Fraser, not sure where else.

On line, I use M and M Direct.

Shoes -can as pair,of Vans or Converse.

Skinny jeans (dark colours), long tshirts, bomber jackets and Nike trainers is the uniform for teen boys here.
Blazers and Merino Jumpers are for school or people who are 30+ unless you're on Made In Chelsea.

Teens don't wear coats unless it's absolutely throwing it down ( and then they usually want a lift) or there's six feet of snow. I got A Superdry cost from an outlet shop, which my ds1 is quite happy to wear. Ds2 lost his coat and it's not been replaced yet.

eyebrowsonfleek · 21/06/2016 20:19

Hoodies are as close to coats as you can hope for.

HoneyDragon · 21/06/2016 20:20

DS likes a mooch around Primark, he likes Superdry, as he's skinny, H&M he looks on Next online too for more preppy stuff.

He's fairly useful actually, he wanders around selecting stuff, I just pay Grin

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 21/06/2016 20:21

My 13 yr old ds is 5ft 10, built like a rugby player and a size 12/13 shoe depending on football Astros or trainers :)

He shops mainly at the Everton shop, so expensive but lasts and great quality. Sports direct for Nike joggers etc, primark for basics and Hugo Boss or Armani for special occasions ( not that often )

He hates coats as do most teenage boys oh and also loves foreign football kits.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2016 20:22

Basics from Primark (Men's S/XS).

TopMan, H&M, Zara, Sports Direct.

Next go up to 13, but only online.

hollypocks · 21/06/2016 20:23

Abercrombie online is surprisingly reasonable and the tshirts are great quality

dementedma · 21/06/2016 20:24

Googled the "blazer and cashmere" poster's suggestion of Finisterre. Seriously? £30 for a plain t? £25 quid for a pair of boxers? For a 13 year old?
We live in very different worlds.

eyebrowsonfleek · 21/06/2016 20:24

Ds likes Next Super Skinny jeans. He's the only member of our family who Next hits the spot for.
H&M (don't forget to check the mens and teen section) , Primark and River Island hit the spot for my ds.

eyebrowsonfleek · 21/06/2016 20:27

Can recommend Boohoo (online) If you see something pricy in say Top Man, Boohoo or Asos often have the same style piece at a more reasonable price.

Artandco · 21/06/2016 20:36

Demented - and they also have cheaper items. Like any place they do different things. They also have tshirt for £16 and long sleeved tops for £17.50. In the sale Dh bought a very nice jumper for £22.

Zara is terrible quality

Ps I didn't suggest cashmere at all.

I always hear on here that teens don't wear coats. They all do here from the looks of things

dementedma · 21/06/2016 20:38

Sorry, you said merino, not cashmere. My apologies.

Cakescakescakes · 21/06/2016 21:02

Artandco if it's cold my 6 yr old wears a zip up hoodie (soft, comfy, easy to move around in, non restrictive) or if it's a bit wet but still quit warm then he wears a little waterproof hooded jacket/coat from Next which has a very thin fleece lining. Again comfy yet warm and practical. How does a 5 yr old play in a blazer? Surely it's really restrictive for running, climbing etc? It's like mini adult clothing but kids move and behave in very different ways to adults.

Cakescakescakes · 21/06/2016 21:04

I can accept that older teens etc may choose to wear a blazer if that fits the social circle etc that they live in but I can't imagine a world where one of my little active boys would prefer to wear a blazer and woollen jumper over something more practical? What about them getting dirty? I need things that are easily washed and dried? Does your 5 yr old not get muddy knees in the garden etc?

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 21/06/2016 21:08

Teens wear hoodies, not jackets!

JurgenKlopp · 21/06/2016 21:24

Gap, H&M and Primark for basics. Superdry, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ralph Lauren, Crew for nicer stuff.

Artandco · 21/06/2016 21:37

I'm not sure what you all think blazers are? My kids blazers are soft and washable. If they get muddy they get thrown in the washing machine ( the clothes not the children)

steppemum · 21/06/2016 21:43

my ds wears a blazer - to school every day and would not be seen dead in one out of school.

size 13-14 is about the same as a men's small or extra small. Although the men's stuff does tend to be more expensive, it is useful to be able to look in the men's section too.

slalomsuki · 21/06/2016 21:45

Primark, Superdry, Jack Wills and Adidas are the staples for my teen. Nike trainers and Timberlands are being mentioned. Got given a Zara jacket and that's another brand that seems to be mentioned here but luckily there isn't one local to us.

Cakescakescakes · 21/06/2016 21:51

I know what a blazer is Smile
Just think they're very formal (even in jersey) for small children.

steppemum · 21/06/2016 21:59

Artandco - I can honestly say my ds would not be seen dead in that blazer, and even as a 5 year old he would not have worn it.

Sorry, but I think it is an odd piece of clothing for a small child. Hoodies, jackets, coats, etc, but a blazer? Nope.

Reminds me of seeing little boys in shirts and ties, which I also hate.
