Has anyone successfully slimmed down from 14-16 to 10?

What's your height? How did you do it?

I've been big all my life. And I'm really hoping to be a 10 for once in my life. I managed to slim down to a small 12 (from 18-20) but, well, gained weight. I'm almost 5'8".

Yes! I'm about 5'7" and went from a 14/16 to a 10 but am edging back up to a 12 now so need to get back on it. It's very doable if you can stick to it for long enough.

tabulahrasa · 18/06/2016 22:36

I'm 5 7 and a half and I've never been a size 10, not even near the bottom of a healthy BMI, I'm a 12 from about half a stone above the healthy range right down to the bottom of it.

pod100 · 18/06/2016 22:44

Yes, I went from a 16 down to a 10 with SW in just over a year. However, getting from a 12 to 10 was slow going and I found it much easier to maintain a 12 without feeling like I was restricting myself.

RebelandaStunner · 18/06/2016 23:41

Yes went from size 14 to a 8-10 when I stopped taking contraception after DH had the snip. The weight just dropped off within a few months. I am 5'5" and 9 stone.

Pissant · 18/06/2016 23:49

Yes, a number of years ago - DS had just turned 1 and I figured it was time to shift the baby weight. Although I had been a 14/16 for years anyway.

Very bad diet but it did the job. Mostly black coffee and cigarettes. Very small amount of food. I went from 12.5 stone to less than 9.5 stone. I looked unwell at 5'9'.

The weight gradually went back on but took about 10 years before I was worried

Kirriemuir · 19/06/2016 05:41

Yes, I have

Started 2015 at 5'7 and 13 stone 4. Was a 16 on bottom and an 18/20 top.

Now I am same height but 10 stone 7 and a 10 bottom half and 12 up top. Always have been busty!

I follow the harcombe plan. You need to stop thinking of low fat and low calorie being good for you. They aren't.

Statelychangers · 19/06/2016 09:10

I was size 14/16 as a student.....size 10-12 now. Low carbing is the easiest approach for me, dh low carbs too, I have lost my embarrassment at asking for low carb food when we eat out. It has improved a couple of very stubborn chronic skin conditions and I'm thinking clearer too.
Still drink wine.

SewButtons · 19/06/2016 09:21

I'm doing it currently. Have lost about a stone so far. I'm tracking my calories with my fitness pal and have gradually reduced them so I'm on about 1300 now and find myself not wanting to eat that many because I'm just not hungry. Kind of accidental low carbing, I still eat carbs but I'm finding I just don't want them very much.
Also I let myself have something if I really want it, and then will compensate later in the week with extra exercise or similar. Finding it so much easier to stick to this time around.

BlueUggs · 19/06/2016 09:24

I can't. Even at 10.5 stone (I'm 5'9" tall), I'm still a size 14 on my bottom half. I've got a big skeleton, and until someone works out a way to shave bone, that's me!! and life is too short

CaitAgusMadra · 19/06/2016 09:37

Yes and have kept it off for 10+ years and had 2 babies in that time ( got bigger while pregnant obvs!)

I'm 5ft8

MagicMonkeys · 19/06/2016 09:45

I have, was a 14 after my son and am now a comfortable 10, I can't seem to get any smaller though, was an 8 before pregnancy!

I did a low carb diet and then went vegetarian, now trying for vegan

Kennington · 19/06/2016 09:48

A lot of people seem to lose weight at my company soon after starting - the head office is in a swish Paris suburb and they are really slim there.
All of them do it by calorie restriction: salad for lunch and no snacking. It is tough but I think if you surround yourself by thin people it can help.
I certainly don't eat so much at work now.

PhyllisWig · 19/06/2016 10:10

I am on my way although was bigger to start with. Was an 18/20 just over a year ago now a big 12. I am busty and fairly broad hipped so not sure if I'll ever get down to a 10. Have about 10lb to go and it's hard going to get those last few lbs shifted. Have used mfp and taken up
running.
Have lost weight in the past and rushed it/hated it so it all went back. This time am not in a rush and am doing it mainly for health rather than mainly for looks and has been quite fun.

MeganChips · 19/06/2016 10:14

I went from a size 20 to a 10 with weight watchers and have maintained it (give or take a few pounds which I tackle quickly) for 8 years.

I'm 5'4 and was 15st 3. I'm now 9st 6.

Tiredofsummer · 19/06/2016 10:27

I've been a size 14 for at least 4 years I am now a size 10. I was 13 stone in February and I'm now 10 stone 9 I've done it by calorie counting and walking lots. I weigh my self every day to make sure I'm going in the right direction and take pictures of the scales I've cut out all drinks except for one coffee in the morning I only drink water now. You definitely can do it. I'm 5 ft 7 by the way

stripeyzebra321 · 19/06/2016 11:35

About 6 years ago I was just short of 14 stone. I'm 5foot3 and was a clothes size 20 just going up to a 22 in jeans as my size 20s were too tight.
So top half 20 bottom 22.

I joined slimming world and in 9 months lost 4 stone and went down to a 8/10 depending where I shipped occasionally a 12 in jeans.

I then went onto loose another half stone ( too quickly on a fad diet) and managed to get into a size 6 dress.

I didn't tone up so whilst in clothes I looked amazing with them off especially my legs were quite big.

I have put some weight back on now mind you but I'm loosing it again doing low carb and in 8 weeks lost over one and a half stone. I've got 9lbs left to get back down to 9stone7.

It is totally possible to get down to that size. It's not easy sometimes as I find I'm 100% I've not had anything naughty pass my lips and I'm trying to work out doing the couch 2 5k app and some toning when I can. But it's other people that try and force food and drinks on me. But I have resisted!

We're all different and not everything works for all of us but I would recommend slimming world. The only thing I would say to anyone starting is when they say eat as much as you like, that's fine when you get going but I am well was a big eater and slimming world didn't help with that. I'm now addressing the portion size on low carb diet.

Whatever you decide to do just go for it!

HolgerDanske · 19/06/2016 11:54

Yes. From 16 to 10.

I did it by low carbing.

I am 5.5

Pendu · 19/06/2016 12:04

I did - my biggest was about size 18 and I went down to a small 12.

I did a combo of things from training and doing the cambridge diet. It was the diet mostly that helped me get to 10/12 but it was hellish. I was living on the diet with little cheats just to maintain. As soon as I went back to "normal, I piled it on fast to now being about a 14/16 - and 4 stone heavier. I don't eat well though so it's partially my fault, but partially due to unsustainable diet. I now do slimming world and am happy to lose a lb or so a week because I think that will be maintained. When I meal skip I seem to like it on , but then I eat junk when I meal skip (my twisted logic!) .
My best tip is always that the little things add up. The difference between me and my slim friends? They have a salad and a small sandwich at lunch, I'll grab a coffee and a cheese panini. I'll get a cappuccino at break, they will grab a green tea. I remember when I was slimmer (aside from being on and off that blasted cambridge diet) I would be pretty strong about not adding sugar in my tea, or if we went out (rare) I didn't think "feck it, it's just tonight" - I would really limit myself to 1-2 peices of pizza (this was cheating on my diet, not actually eating at this time)
Weight loss is a nightmare - it's sort of simple but then also it can be so darn hard (eg meal skipping weight gain)
Oh water makes a difference enormously I found too

pollylovespie · 19/06/2016 14:48

I'm a 16 hoping to get to a 12 - I don't think I'll ever be a 10 on top due to wide back and boobs!). I weigh just shy of 13 stone which at 5'3 is not good. To get to a 12 I have to get to 9 stone or below (at 9.5 I was a 14).
I'd love to hear non low-carb success stories- I'm vegetarian and low-carb is pretty useless if you don't eat meat. I also feel really yucky without fibrous foods like pulses and veg. Anyone done it in a low fat/ high fibre way?

puglife15 · 19/06/2016 17:23

Yes but my diet was pretty dreadful before, chips in pitta and Hagen daaz plus sugary cocktails all featured heavily.

Smaller portions, more veg, more wholegrains, less junk, less booze, fewer carbs, less meat. It took a while (years) but I lost about 2.5-3 stone and that took me from a 14-16 to an 8-10, and I've stayed that weight for about 6 years now.

CoolToned · 19/06/2016 20:04

Very inspiring stories! Keep them coming :) I would love to read more.

I am aiming to lose 2 stones for now which will put me in at the upper end of my ideal weight for height. Then I'll decide after that.

I miss my clothes - this time, last year, I was 1.5 stones lighter. I was wearing size 12s (depending on where I shopped though - I have big bone structure but no boobs to speak of, boy hips, lean legs)

I went from a 16 to a 10 dong slimming world. Then I put it all back on again. Everyone I know who lost weight with slimming world or weight watchers put it all back on over time... Now I don't bother with any weight loss plans or diets I try to eat sensible and exercise but I just live my life. I'm a 12-14 at the moment, I'd like to be smaller but I also like cake lol

mayhew · 19/06/2016 20:17

I did it on 5:2 12stone to 10 stone at 5'7". Took about 8 months and was pretty painless. Three years on I'm maintaining a 12 (10 and half stone). At a size 10 I look a bit haggard at my age, my skin needs some support!

Dakin1 · 19/06/2016 20:17

Yes but as a side effect of living in Ibiza so not the most healthy way!

PhyllisWig · 19/06/2016 20:56

Polly, I am a non meat eater (do eat fish) and also have a history of slightly disordered eating/getting obsessive so wanted to avoid any kind of eating plan where I cut down on food groups or got too structured.

I have upped the fruit and veg, tried to reduce trigger foods like cheese which I binge on and generally just eat a lot less. I still have something sweet every day ( try to keep it less than 250 calories). I've lost just over 4 stone this way. So it doesn't have to be low carb if that doesn't work for you.
