What's your monthly spend on clothes, makeup, accessories etc and are you ok with that?

I try to set myself a budget of no more than £200 and struggle! I know i am a shopaholic, even more so a saleaholic once the sales are on it's like a red rag to a bull. That's on anything appearance related, so clothes, shoes, makeup, skincare, hair, accessories, bags etc.

I do seem to buy a lot of clothes, due to weight loss/ gain I never seem to be the same size season to season so I often end up with a wardrobe of different sizes. And I am a sucker for expensive makeup - somehow I never seem to get along with the cheap stuff, probably psychological!

Is that amount a lot? or a reasonable amount? I know it depends on income etc but just interested whether other people spend a similar amount.

Realistically close to £1000 if I add hair and the secret Botox and filler I get done Shock

It's spendy but I'm trying to focus on buying decent quality stuff. Last month I bought a coat from goat and a pair of Jimmy Choos - both lovely and both from outnet so convinced myself a bargain.

This month I want a leather jacket so that will cost a bit and some clothes for my summer hols.

ShortcutButtons · 18/06/2016 20:05

Each six weeks I spend the following just to maintain my looks. I am not particularly into my looks. This is the bare minimum I need to look normal!
Waxing: £25
Hair cut: £50
Hair colour: £75
Make-up and face wash etc: £40
= £190 every 6 weeks without clothes or shoes.

I will spend nothing on clothes for many months and then blow £400 on one trip for clothes and shoes so it's hard to average out clothes.

maggiethemagpie · 18/06/2016 20:10

Wow £125 for a cut and colour sounds loads! Even when I get mine done at the hairdresser it's less than £50. Then again I go to a suburban hairdresser in the NW not anywhere very upmarket.

JamieVardysParty · 18/06/2016 20:21

I want to know where you go Maggie!

I'm suburban NW and can't get a decent cut and colour for less than £85.

maggiethemagpie · 18/06/2016 22:04

Will pm you Jamie

I budget £50 for wax and hair each month.

Clothing? I suppose I spend about£75, but not necessarily every month. I try to only replace items, and since I try to buy good quality, they don't tend to wear out as much.

RJnomore1 · 18/06/2016 22:13

I didn't get my hair cut today Blush the £105 is colour.

I've been doing up the house but last year I was seeing a dermatologist at £100 a pop too and she was making a real difference to my hormonal skin. If I added in her abd the products I bought from her - I shudder to think how much I spend.

I'm quite spoilt now I think about it 😳

OliveBranchCollins · 18/06/2016 22:24

£77 every 6 weeks on hair t-section + cut & blowdry
I replace makeup etc when it runs out and buy clothes as and when I need something.

Mumzyknowsbest · 18/06/2016 22:30

I haven't bought clothes since the turn of the century or at least that's how it seems. I do have my hair colored each month though to the whopping sound of fifteen great british pounds sterling.

BlueEyedWonder · 18/06/2016 22:34

In the past I was spending £££ and I realised I was very uncomfortable with it. In the past couple of years I've made a real effort to make changes and am much happier with less.
I get my hair cut and highlighted every 8 weeks which costs £85. I set a budget of £100 per month for clothes and make up. Some months I still go over a little but try and pull it back the following month.

Kateallison16 · 18/06/2016 23:24

Realistically, anything up to £300 ish could be my budget but I am FAR too tight for that!

In all honesty, I must only spend around £20 on health and beauty and buy clothes as and when I need them.

I do this by:

  • Building up a collection of clothes, I have a big selection of work clothes and weekend wear, cardigans and accessories. So I only ever buy bits I want rather than need. For example, this month I might get myself some new work shoes (plimsole things) for like a fiver.

  • I cut my own hair. Its a straight round bob and is so simple to just trim the ends. I also have thinning scissors so give it a thin every few months.
I dye it myself and use argan oil and smoothing balms on it so keep it healthy and tidy.

  • My closest friend is a qualified beauty therapist (Nails, facials, make up, massage) as well as qualified in fitting hair extensions. She is a total darling and this sort of thing costs me nothing.

  • I have a good amount of make up ive built up bit by bit. I keep it all very clean and look after it. Its all good brands (what people call "high end") Chanel, Urban Decay, Mac, The Balm, Bobbi Brown, Benefit......
I only need to buy these when they are old or run out, so I hardly ever need to buy new bits.

  • If we are talking about dry shampoos, body sprays, deep conditioners and bits, then I buy most of this stuff on wilko.com as its so so cheap. Dry shampoo is like £1.50 for a HUGE one and body sprays are 0.80p a pop. So things like that I buy there.

HyacinthBouquetNo1 · 19/06/2016 12:10

Nothing, I only get new clothes once a year at holiday time if I need anything. only buy new stuff when what i have has been worn to death Grin got loads of makeup to use up. dont bother with skincare really

thebear1 · 19/06/2016 12:22

My spending is random so one month it might be just £10 in Boots but the next month I might have a haircut and buy a few outfits. Annually I reckon between £400 and £500.

SuperFlyHigh · 19/06/2016 12:45

My hair is easily £100 every 8-12 weeks (highlights) plus extra £40 if cut.

I also spend £24 every 2-3 months for huge TIGI shampoo/conditioner combos at TK Maxx.

Trying to use up all makeup and hair products now that I already have.

Clothes far less than I used to spend. I tend to now buy as and when (eg recently summer dresses and skirts). Trying to spend less on them too and more classic as have far too many clothes and shoes.

I'm happier now than I have been but to be honest I want to cut it down further.

Misssss · 19/06/2016 12:57

Too much, I feel like a bit of a spendthrift reading these. I have Afro hair so it's fairly expensive to keep it looking great, I'm also plus sized and good fat girl clothes cost a fortune. I probably average £300 a £400 a month. A little more if I add on gym and PT.

I don't have kids and have a fairly well paying job so I can afford it. I'm perfectly comfortable with this, if I look good, I feel good. I've tried cheaper makeup and clothes but they don't cut it. I see it as essential to my health and wellbeing.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/06/2016 20:29

I don't set a budget per se, but thinking about this month, I have bought:

Three midi-dresses (Topshop/Oasis) - approx £120 for the three
Saltwater sandals - £55
Striped top - H&M - £13
Haircut - £60
Perfume - £100 (but sold a load of stuff on eBay to fund that)
Mac lipstick - £15

Fairly typical for me. As other posters have said, I work hard to earn a good salary, and don't have kids. May live to regret the sandals, because it's rained non-stop since.

Woodhill · 19/06/2016 20:52

I tend to spend more some months than others. Spending loads at the moment due to dd getting married.

Spice22 · 28/07/2016 16:01

I'm a student so don't have much at the moment. I aim for £50 a month. Wish it was more but Gotta work with what you have.

Love this thread !

Piemernator · 28/07/2016 16:09

I spend low
This month
Haircut £30
T.shirt £10
Face wipes £3

I have really sensitive skin so just Clinique when it starts to run out. As far as I'm concerned I have one pair of feet and one arse that needs covering. I'm a reluctant shopper. Nothing to do with lack of money, I just find shopping dull. I did buy a pair of Kurt Geiger wedged sandals a couple of months ago. I go to a retail designer outlet 3 tines a year and TK Maxx every couple of months.

Oly5 · 28/07/2016 17:01

I spend a fortune on clothes (about £350-£400pm) but barely anything on make-up and about £60 every eight weeks on my hair.

vinegarandchips · 28/07/2016 18:46

About £140. Most of that is my Botox habit! I don't spend anything on my hair except shampoo etc, don't pay for nail/brows and I go for months without buying cosmetics as I use the same ones until they run out. I spend about £50 a month on average for clothes.

teaandcake789 · 28/07/2016 19:08

On average I'd say £100 a month is what I have spare, for me.

Savagebeauty · 28/07/2016 19:13

I buy clothes as and when. Sometimes I can spend £500 on 3 pairs of shoes in a day.
Every six weeks I spend about£200 on hair, facial, eyebrows, Brazilian.

Oblomov16 · 28/07/2016 19:24

£200 a month?
Really? Goodness. I hardly ever buy clothes. I often can't find stuff I like. I may spend practically nothing for months and then buy quite a few items in one go.

flirtygirl · 28/07/2016 20:48

Im on a no spend on clothes from jan 31 to aug 31, i bought 3 boots/ shoes this year and 3 bags and thats all. Dont count these as clothes.

I spend around £25 per month on skincare and makeup but buy offers as and when and bulk buy asian beauty so spent £100 in april but wont need to reorder till dec hence £25 per month on average.
