At 50, I deem myself an experienced needler!
I use panoxyl which gets rid of blackheads and congested pores and spots with heads in -pimples.
I do still get those very deep, painful ones that are just a horrid hard lump under the skin. I used to squeeze the fuck out of them resulting in split skin, an infection and a horrible mess that may leave a crater!
Then I discovered that if you feel very carefully (wash hands with hibiscrub or waterless anti bacterial hand gel) I could feel the hardest part of the area and that is the epicentre of the volcano that lies within!
Using a sterilised fine needle or pin, you can easily pierce down to the core. You can actually feel the needle/pin surge forward as it reaches the pus filled sac or where all the poison is hiding. Withdraw needle/pin at the same angle and then you may either get a small spurt of pus or just a dot of blood or yellowy liquid/plasma.
Then you squeeze and the pus now has an exit tunnel caused by the needle/pin and the pus is released upwards and outwards in a gush. You must try and get it all out and see that the blood is visible indicating no more pus. An antiseptic such as TCP is great and if you follow it up with a stupid pencil you will stop the bleeding or ooze leaking as the alum clots the tiny pin prick wound.
The styptic pencil means you can apply make up afterwards and be assured that you won't get that awful cornflake crust you get from a squeezed spot.
Occasionally the blind spot may fill up with some more pus but it is usually only a tiny amount and you simply requests and then apply TCP/antiseptic and the alum stick again. Then it's gone for good.
I find using this method limits the amount of skin peeling and flaking that you can often get from topical creams etc.
