As an over 50 (size 12) I have a set of personal "things to avoid" fashion rules.....Need to avoid skirts above the knee, avoid low cut tops, avoid sleeveless, avoid skinny jeans to name just a few..... But what should I actively seek bearing in mind I quite like not to be mutton as lamb but a bit fashionable?

Well I wouldn't say the way I dress has nothing to do with my age. I'm getting saggy - that's age - and I look for clothes to counteract it. My body's changing and I change how I dress to deal with it. I'm always up for talking about that.

But we don't all age in the same way and the reason age based rules - even the 'no pigtails' variety - piss me off so much is because the thinking behind them seems to be that everyone over 50 looks the same.

Don't worry about your age. If you have great legs, show them off. Toned arms? Wear sleeveless. Small waist? Cinch in with a belt. Fab boobs? A cleavage enhancing top.

Just go with what suits.

Although saying that, I'm not sure too many over fifties can caryy off 'batty riders' Grin

Michelle Obama is 52, and definitely has the right to bare arms.

It would be interesting to ask Madonna, Liz Hurley, Helen Mirren and Joanna Lumley what they think about restricting their dress code according to their age.
