If I asked you to describe your style, could you do it?

Full disclosure: I'm a market researcher, and currently doing some research for one of the Big 4 supermarkets on their clothing. One of our clients has asserted that it's difficult/impossible for people to describe their own style, and that only other people could do this about you.

I wondered about this. Personally I'm really not into fashion, so it's hard for me to describe my 'style' other than scruffy, but then I was wondering if this confirmed her statement!

I'm not looking for answers to my research (because I actually haven't told you what it's really about Wink), but wanted to see what you fashionistas thought to this claim.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2016 17:32

Mine is sort of rock chick, crossed with slightly more grown up emo, crossed with Minnie Mouse crossed with Jack Skellington.

I don't have one. I'd love to have one but I don't have the fashion sense, the knack for knowing what goes with what.

Casual elegance.
Comfortable chic.
Relaxed glamour.

I no longer have a style. Used to be very stylish and well groomed, now I work from home, wear jeans and shirts most days, sometimes black jeans for a change!

Generally have frizzy hair from cycling in the mornings to school.

Must work on it really as DH is one of those effortlessly groomed types. I have nice skin and hair (when it isn't damp) but no style!

Colourful

EmmaWoodlouse · 15/05/2016 19:19

About half the time I like classic, neutral coloured, simple clothes and slightly quirky accessories.

The other half, I'm a colourful hippyish beach bum.

Babettescat · 15/05/2016 19:20

Frumpy.
Tattered.
Can't-be-arsed.

Yeah that covers it.

Sexy librarian at work - tight cardigans, pencil skirts, sensible shoes - and a touch of steampunk at the weekend - lace, satin, waistcoats, lace up boots.

tabpepsi · 15/05/2016 19:47

im not a follower of vogue trends nor do i keep up with high street trends but i dont like to look dated.

i think im fairly modern classic and low key.

clean lines, no frou- frou and no prints. muted colours with a bold accent like apple, neon or orange.

i dont do joules/boden/la coste/ralph lauren which is synonymous with preppy/modern classic but i wear denim shirts/white shirts/chambray/ striped fitted top/converse/tan leather ballerinas/tan leather bag.

i might be daring from time to time by wearing pointed caged lace up flats and animal print items!

daisydukes34 · 15/05/2016 19:53

A hot mess

MadSprocker · 15/05/2016 19:57

Finding it really hard to do this. I think eclectic might sum it up. At work (as a LSA in a school) I would say boring. I only wear those clothes on work days. I like quirky prints, but live in skinny jeans most of the time. I like to think I have some style .........

A cross between Debbie Harry and Patsy from Abfab.

ephemeralfairy · 15/05/2016 21:22

With a splash of Dorian from Birds Of A feather.

Pretty girly?

My work wardrobe consists of printed skirts (eg red tartan pencil skirt; heathery flowered tulip skirt; black and gold brocade circle skirt) with black vests and little cropped cardigans. Ankle boots in winter, pointy ballet pumps in summer. I have just bought some grey shift dresses because I moved team and needed to look a bit smarter, but I'm wearing bright long sleeved tops underneath to make them seem more me. I don't wear much jewellery, but I do wear bright lipstick a lot. I like clothes that make me feel a bit quirky. It's hard to explain and it doesn't always come off - and I don't always have time to indulge it. I do like shopping and I do like putting clothes together - I just always wish I had more time/money to shop in.

Casual clothes - if I'm meeting friends or going out I never wear jeans - little dresses, black tights, big cardigans, long necklaces. Sadly most of the time at weekends I wear kid-friendly clothes - jeans and jumpers.

Classic with a twist. I like simple lines and neutral shades -- quite preppy, but with slightly different cuts to avoid frumpiness. I add colourful accessories in interesting prints (scarves, shawls, chunky jewellery) to make things interesting. Shoes are same - classics with an edge (Rockstud heels, studded brogues, ballerinas with some sort of embellishment). Handbags - always Hermes.

314inTheSkye · 16/05/2016 08:01

What's all this clean lines stuff. Explain. Sounds like baggy to me.

I work out and im small so i like plain fitted clothes with a quirky detail.

Lol at 'a hot mess' and a bit of Dorian!

Mominatrix · 16/05/2016 08:42

Clean lines is the opposite of baggy - think we'll tailored so no extra "lines". No froofs, poofs, frills.

314inTheSkye · 16/05/2016 08:57

Oh right. That's my wardrobe.

Im small so i dont do patterns either. I do fits like a glove. It is hard to buy clothes as the shops are full of stuff that isnt as nice as what i have. I tend to swoop on things if i like them.
