If Victoria Beckham is wearing a skirt this length does it make it non-mumsy and non-frumpy

Because I'd love some summer frocks this length

She looks a bit frumpy in that - I believe it's the continuation of the oh look I'm so tiny that these massive clothes just hang off my size zero frame in meters of bellowing fabric

TheRollingCrone · 11/05/2016 18:31

I don,t think she looks frumpy at all. I bet that dress was so comfy on a plane.

I love that length. Short skirts/ frocks are gorgeous but let's be honest you need killer fucking legs and cut glass ankles.

specialsubject · 11/05/2016 18:32

it's fine. The distortion of her legs from those shoes in that last photo makes me wince though...

GeorgeTheThird · 11/05/2016 18:32

I think it looks elegant on her

chanie44 · 11/05/2016 18:35

In my opinion, if you are groomed to within a inch of your life you can pull off most things. On most mere mortals, it will probably would look grumpy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2016 18:39

I think it's lovely, but I like full midi skirts and don't give a toss if people on here think they are frumpy. Would rather wear that than leggings, any day.

If VB is 'frumpy' there's no hope for the rest of us!

burnishedsilver · 11/05/2016 18:45

It doesnt matter what she wears, she'll never look frumpy.
Add 2 stone, poorer posture and amateur grooming and that outfit would look completely different. Actually, I think the posture might play the biggest part.

Summer23 · 11/05/2016 18:47

Looks like she might be wearing a a culotte style jumpsuit

MsBojangles · 11/05/2016 18:51

Agree with burnished, on someone with tits and hips it would teeter dangerously into frump territory.

That inbetweeny length is difficult enough for mere mortals, let alone professional clothes horses. The lower the heel the fumpier it would look.

ScarletForYa · 11/05/2016 18:55

I think she's quite frumpy and try-hard.

I think she believes she's cutting edge and cool but she's not. The fashion line didn't turn a profit, it's just a vanity project.

OTheHugeManatee · 11/05/2016 18:56

Add my cankles and you are firmly in frump-land.

What goes for waif thin lollipop women does not go for ordinary humans, I'm afraid.

squizita · 11/05/2016 19:48

Midi has been in for a while and isn't frumpy styled right.

I go for "feisty 70s lady cop" for my vibe - you need to avoid hints of it being shy and asexual, it needs to be "proud", and the length a defiant "my legs are not for your gaze, men ... but they're probably fabulous! Watch while they run down this New York purse snatcher..."
Chunky mid heels, boots, tailored blouses or decent loose jersey top tucked in, jackets or waistcoats.
Never ballet pumps, pastels or "cute" unless you're going for a deliberately 40s/50s wry kitsch thing.

squizita · 11/05/2016 19:50

Oh and I have Tits and hips. Admittedly I'm slim, but not VB shaped. Hence I use tailoring and colour (and boots take out the heel angst - mid heel, calf length, suede or texture leather).

AdoraKiora · 11/05/2016 20:11

I dont think its frumpy if you style it right.

Its all pretty much the only skirt length I wear in summer, especially for work.

I wear full skirts like VB's one with a silky, sleeveless blouse and heeled/wedged sandals or ankle boots. I also wear that midi length but a straight, tighter style (tube skirts).

Its much more flattering than a shorter length on me (tall, slim hourglass), shows the best bit of my leg (slim ankles and calves) and is appropriate for work (no thigh flashing)

MsBojangles · 11/05/2016 20:44

I do too, it was the voice of experience not a diss Wink. I have a pair of chunky, knee high, heeled tan boots which is the only way I can kind of get those dresses to work, I still don't feel me though if you know what I mean.

DinosaursRoar · 11/05/2016 20:50

you need height for that length, but if you have it and as long as it's styled right, then not frumpy.

I don't think VB looks 'try hard' at the moment, she used to in her mid-20s, but now she seems to be dressing for her and more often than not, seems to have managed that "stylish in a comfy and not overtly sexy way" look, bit like if she gets attention, that's great, but she's not seeking it anymore.

squizita · 11/05/2016 21:01

Dino I'm 5"1 and know how to take a hem up. That works too.

PeaceLoveGonk · 11/05/2016 21:10

How tall is VB?

The midi style is one that I would guess a large percentage (well me!) feel comfortable in.

AdoraKiora · 11/05/2016 21:44

I'm a smidge under 6 ft, so my problem is actually finding midi skirts that are midi skirts and not actually knee length on me Grin

I think VB is about 5'6

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 12/05/2016 08:41

Scarlet that was a bit harsh!

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 12/05/2016 08:44

Squizita I'm having trouble imagining that look.....Grin have you got any pics of what you mean?

IWILLgiveupsugar · 12/05/2016 09:20

I thought vb looked lovely. I think being slim and well groomed means you can pretty much wear anything.

Another request for some photos or pins, I like the sound of it

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 12/05/2016 11:04

I know exactly what squizita means, and I love that look.
Midi skirts, or culottes, in nice fabrics, with a chunky wedge heel, or slouchy suede boots. Little bit Cagney, little bit Charlies Angels. Its a look that says "woman" not "girl".
I don't think you can do midi with flats, unless you have amazingly slender ankles joins Manatee on the cankles bench
