I bought these sandals today, please tell me what to wear with them!

I totally fell in love with these today. Firstly, I'm 33 years old, do they look like something a 30 year old would wear?

Secondly, what would I wear with these? Could I wear some chinos or nice maxi skirts? What about skinny jeans?

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 09/05/2016 17:21

Oh dear there really isn't a good angle is there?

Please send them back.,

there'll be a 70 yo ready to snap them up

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/05/2016 17:25

They're not too bad. Team with tanned legs and a bright colour on your toes and you're good to go.

Believeitornot · 09/05/2016 17:30

I suggest you find some nice gladiator sandals :)

Runningupthathill82 · 09/05/2016 18:10

My mum would definitely buy them off you for a tenner.

brassbrass · 09/05/2016 18:16

you lot are mean Grin

Corialanusburt · 09/05/2016 18:23

If you're Spanish/Italian and thin you can get away with Clarks styles, the English frump they're targeted at tho just looks dull. I'm 5 ft 3, freckled and stout of ankle and I'd look rank in them.

brassbrass · 09/05/2016 18:28

it's fair to say stout ankles (or thin bony ones for that matter) never benefit from anything that highlights the ankle itself. It just draws attention to it. I think gladiators are ok actually because they provide quite a bit of coverage but the ones that look bad are regular sandals with a thin ankle strap. And they cut of the leg so if you're short it just shortens the leg.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 09/05/2016 18:34

that's really NOT a better angle brass

crimped toes, razed ankles and ridiculous tan lines that will still show when you want to wear your strappy silver dancing shoes at the Christmas Party

Startingover2016 · 09/05/2016 18:45

No likey.

But if you insisted on wearing them, they would suit a hippy style maxi dress or skirt.

brassbrass · 09/05/2016 18:46

I think they look daintier in the second pic!!

Now I understand why you all hate them! I haven't yet suffered any of those things, mine are soft leather so they don't dig anywhere and can't think why I haven't suffered stripy tan marks. Rome was 40 degrees when I was there so I should have had zebra feet but I didn't Confused

ZaZathecat · 09/05/2016 19:33

These are my New Look ones. Are they frumpy too?

I bought these sandals today, please tell me what to wear with them!
Runningupthathill82 · 09/05/2016 19:40

I think those New Look ones are MUCH better than the sandals in the OP.

Beautifullymixed · 09/05/2016 19:46

Sorry, not keen on the new look ones either. Think it's the heel.
They would look positively orthopaedic on my size 8/9 feet and chunky leg.

Choccybadger · 09/05/2016 19:48

Yuck. Sorry, don't like. I think you'd have to be skinny to look good in these.

ZaZathecat · 09/05/2016 22:38

Beaut I take an 8 too , but I'd like to think I have a well - turned ankle! I'm conscious of having big feet and always choose schoes that minimise them - I think these do. What I'd never wear are chelsea boots or anything else with a long featureless tops which emphasise the length.

WakeUpFast · 10/05/2016 07:06

😂😂😂😂 these comments. I can always rely on MN for some sage advice. The reason why I asked if they suited a 30 year old is because I'm always choosing styles above my age range for the sake of comfort! I wore heels and walked for an hour yesterday and my feet, legs, hips and ribs feel like they've been punched by something, and I'm fit and healthy walking on flats usually!

I like the ones linked by Cows too. The ones I bought are quite comfortable and cushioned. I don't feel any kind of razor feeling at my ankle.

Thanks for the laughs, I think I will give them back and then try to find comfortable cushioned trendy flat shoes somewhere else!

UntilTheCows: can you link for your first pic?

Op I have some Esprit gladiator style sandals that have a padded sole and are comfort exemplified, can't link but look at the Esprit shoe section?

I am ancient, but those Clarks ones are just too clunky for the style. I used to travel to Eastern bloc countries and the hotel maids wore shoes like that with their overalls.

pearlylum · 10/05/2016 08:00

OP if you like them, then wear them.
It doesn't matter what us randomers think.

FankEweVeryMuch · 10/05/2016 08:01

I like them and I'm the same age as you. I think they're less fussy than other styles like that and don't come too high and are less boot like. They're certainly not frumpy in my opinion although it depends on the styling.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 10/05/2016 08:47

Bugger, just realised the ones in the first pic I posted are mens ones. They're from ASOS though.

The second ones are called Farewell and they're £39 from Topshop.

WakeUpFast · 10/05/2016 08:54

Thanks Blu, I'll do that.

FankEwe, I didn't think they were either and I thought they looked nice on too, but I've made some atrocious choices in the past! I can't wear heels or wedges so my choice of footwear isn't very varied. I'm glad there's someone else who likes them!

UntilthecowsComeHome I was Shock and distracted by the hairy legs in n your first photo, and also his ankle looks weird!

WakeUpFast · 10/05/2016 11:22

😂😂 Those hairy legs!

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 10/05/2016 12:31

Ouch, those hairs could really get caught in the leather straps Grin
