I'm sick of shaving my legs - talk to me about that hair dissolving stuff

So, I understand there are these creams and such that you can use instead of shaving - do they work well? Are they less faff than shaving or not? Can you use them on your underarms, too? What about bikini line?

Okay, I got some Veet Shower - I saw how the other things came with scrapers, but this was just a sponge. Did a patch test which was fine, and tried legs last night.

Reasonably happy, especially as whole shower was as long as I typically spend on just shaving (so definitely faster for me), but I've got some questions:

How thickly are you meant to put this stuff on? I could go through that tube in no time, and it was expensive! I tried one leg a bit thinner than the other, and it did have some hair patches left.

Legs are smoother than shaving: has it really dissolved down to the roots? How often will I have to do this? Less often than shaving, right?

And I totally freaked out about the hair on my head after putting it on and then getting in the shower I started washing my hair and stopped because my hands had been in the stuff. But then I didn't know what to do I ended up finishing with my legs, rising my hands really well, and then doing my hair. What do you normally do?

the creams that dissolve hair can get a little bit into the follicle, so the result will last a little longer. They also produce a finer end to the regrowth rather than the blunt cut of a razor, so you think it lasts longer too.

CBA, personally. Cheap bic razors in the bath, job done. (realise not everyone can do this)

Nair from homebargains or poundworld is what you want. Half a tube on each leg.

99p well spent.

murmuration · 18/06/2016 21:28

Oh, good idea. I can check a pound shop next time I'm near one. So a tube is only for one use? I probably used 1/3 more, but as I said, went thin on one leg and it didn't get all the hair. If I can't find it cheaper this won't be affordable!

Reason I asked this I find shaving so hard - takes a long time and I'm always nicking myself, but less so with expensive razors.

I use spray on veet shower. I'm blonde so only need to do it once a week. Spray on is far less faff than the cream.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/06/2016 21:32

I only get one use per tube but I like to put it on thick, I think it works better that way.

I can't wax, shave or epilate because I get ingrown hairs. Creams or laser was the only thing left.

museumum · 18/06/2016 21:33

Oh and I only do lower legs. I don't really have hair on my thighs.

I sometimes veet my underarms (before a holiday for eg) but need to be v careful as it can irritate.

I use a man's electric razor. That was a tip from MN.

Do not buy a lady's electric razor. They are massively over priced shit.

A fairly cheap standard shaver like your DH would have. Mine cost less than £20.

Quick whizz over your legs once a day, no chance of getting a nick, can be done dry, can be done when you are dressed and ready to go but realise your legs are hairier than you like when you check the mirror.

When you hair gets a bit long you use the beard trimmer first then use the main bit. Same as your DH would do on his face.

it's a good general rule never to buy anything aimed at women if there is an alternative aimed at men. Products for women cost more, work less well and generate loads of stupid packaging.

pink costs.
