I'm sick of shaving my legs - talk to me about that hair dissolving stuff

So, I understand there are these creams and such that you can use instead of shaving - do they work well? Are they less faff than shaving or not? Can you use them on your underarms, too? What about bikini line?

Magic shaving powder is ace if you have l, like me, very coarse dark body hair. It's a powder you mix with water to make a paste, apply to skin and then after a few minutes 'shave' off with... well actually Idk what you're meant to use, I use an old credit card. It's much better than nair or veet, which for me don't work unless I leave it on so long my skin is burned. And it lasts longer than shaving. But it's a faff so I only use it on my bikini area. The best thing is no horrid shaving rash afterwards.

It seems like there is a lot of variation. flirty, that's the impression I had gotten, but not like that for all, I guess? The only to find out would be to try. I have reasonably fine hair so it may be worth a go.

Although does it trigger psoriasis? Just developed this in the last few years, and it's nearly under control - wouldn't want to flare it up.

Sounds like a patch test may be in order.

I would agree in giving epilators another go. I first used one about 16 years ago and I can guarantee they are much better now. Mine current one has a light and they really does help spot all the little hairy buggers. Still need to epilate every day in summer (very Envy at those people who say it lasts a week).

flirtygirl · 08/05/2016 21:07

Yep creams may not work for everyone but waxes left me with white heads, shaving leaves me looking like a strawberry.

Goodluck op, its purely trial and error.

seafoodeatit · 08/05/2016 21:28

I can't stand the creams, they make such a mess and even the 'sensitive' labelled ones make me sore.

SwingingFromTheChanderlier · 08/05/2016 22:13

If you can afford I recommend the Phillips Lumea

Cantusethatname · 09/05/2016 07:53

My Ipulse Gold has changed my life, honestly. It was worth every penny. I see the odd hair now and then which I shave off.

Roystonv · 09/05/2016 08:03

Sorry to derail, Meow 75 my son has guttate psoriasis, any tips?

shovetheholly · 09/05/2016 11:54

I cannot bear the smell of the creams, and they make my skin really sore.

Can you use the Lumea if you have really, really pale skin (I am ghost lady).

1horatio · 09/05/2016 15:48

I epilate.... I have used creams, but I don't like it...

seafoodeatit · 09/05/2016 17:04

shovetheholly pale skin is ideal but you also need to have dark hair.

shovetheholly · 10/05/2016 09:54

Really? That's brilliant news! Thanks seafood.

Second n00b question: is there any way of trying it to see if it works for me before I spend hundreds of quid on a blinking light? Smile

ijustwannadance · 10/05/2016 10:04

shove yes there is. Get one from QVC.
They do a no quibble money back guarantee. Usually 30 days but they extend it for the Lumea to 60 days because you use it once a fortnight.

Got mine a few weeks ago and results have been great. I'm also ghostly pale but with dark body hair.

shovetheholly · 10/05/2016 10:28

Thank you ijustwannadance.

I LOVE this forum. I get amazing advice. It is genuinely changing me from scruffbag into slightly-less-scruffbaggy-almost-presentable. There is hope for everyone if this can be achieved Grin

murmuration · 10/05/2016 13:54

Oh, ijust, that's an interesting idea! I've got a mix of light and dark hair, so was thinking it probably wouldn't be worth it, but if I could try for 2 months and see what I think, that would be nice!

Maybe keep an eye out for their next TSV (daily deal) for a better price too.

Purplerainbow2 · 10/05/2016 14:39

All touche, where do you get his magic powder from?! Intrigued! Lunea was a waste of money for me, I'm pale with dark hair.

HappyNevertheless · 10/05/2016 14:43

sqoosh
Is Lumea really working??? It's quite pricey Shock

HappyNevertheless · 10/05/2016 14:45

X post Grin

alltouchedout · 10/05/2016 15:12

Purplerainbow I get it in the nisa local near the dc's school but that's not much help to you really! You can get it on eBay. Apparently it's a product aimed at African Caribbean men for beard removal (I'm guessing this is why it doesn't burn my skn as who wants a burned face?) so you're more likely to find it on shops in areas with a decent African Carribean population I guess. It's really good!

Purplerainbow2 · 10/05/2016 15:14

Thanks, no shops like that around here! What is it called? I shall have a Google!

alltouchedout · 10/05/2016 18:39

It's actually called Magic Shaving Powder which I think is the single best name for a depilatory product ever :)

Ha ha I thought that was just your term for it! Fab, thank you!
