If you're in your 40's what's your favourite foundation?

I know .... yet another foundation thread - sorry!

However, genuinely interested to see whether there are a selection of foundations which work well for those of us in our 40's?

I'm using By Terry Cover Expert just now. It worked for me until they added SPF and the shades changed. I replaced with what By Terry said was the closest match to what I was using (ie one shade down) but it's just not the right and has a distinct orange tone. Tried Dior Star and was colour matched with their device in Debenhams - but daylight showed a real tideline and total mismatch between that and my skin tone.

So I'm on the hunt again!

It has to be face atelier ultrapro foundation. The colour match IS my skin.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/05/2016 21:36

Actually its ultra foundation pro in sand:

Clarin's Firming foundation. It's amazing. No other foundation I have used even comes close.

Ilovewillow · 01/05/2016 21:41

43 she says quietly!! I hate foundation as i find it a bit heavy but I have started using Liz Earl and it's really lovely and light!

Ponymagic · 01/05/2016 23:33

Interesting reading! I've spent the afternoon going round the counters, having foundation put on, nipping out to daylight then to the next counter to have it replaced! Tried YSL Tient whatever (!) which seemed okay, Chanel Lift Lumiere which was a great colour but waaaay to shiny for me. Discovered I am cool pink toned and my skin is oh so dehydrated. Anyway, need up at the Laura Mercier counter and really liked their Candleglow foundation. The colour looked good and it had a nice finish.

Also came away with their Rose Oil - has anyone tried it? Please say it's a miracle product if you have! The assistant said they can't keep it in stock.

Also, interestingly, she asked what primer I use which happens to be Porefessional. Advised me to stop using it as its silicone based and very drying on the skin. So, of course, I am now the mug who bought owner of a LM, water based primer which will really hydrate my skin.

I should have perfect skin before too long Hmm but for now have a lighter purse!

Vichy Dermablend Liquid Fluid Corrective Foundation. Started using it in my mid-forties about five years ago, and would never use anything else now. So natural looking, people constantly comment on how fantastic my skin is. I'm quite pale & it's not orange at all. I absolutely swear by it. Each tube lasts ages &, as long as I cleanse properly every day, it actually seems to improve my skin.

southeastastra · 02/05/2016 00:01

nars pro radiance

andintothefire · 02/05/2016 00:39

Laura Mercier is great.

If you want lighter coverage at any point, have you tried the By Terry CC cellularose cream? It's a light to medium coverage (not far off the Charlotte Tilbury light wonder) and I think it's really flattering.

slinkysaluki · 02/05/2016 17:00

I was using boots botanics bb cream buts it's been discontinued so used the foundation matching site called Fndation and purchased some Revlon Age Defy foundation and apply it with a brush. It's nice and dewy looking which looks better than matt now on me at 47.

evelynj · 02/05/2016 17:21

Slinky, you should try the number 17 bb cream, it's a good substitute For the botanics one. It's my current fave, along with nars sheer glow & Laura mercier illuminating mineral powder foundation.

Will no doubt be trying some of these recs though!

ProbablyMe · 02/05/2016 17:33

Clinique Superbalanced. Love it. Makes me look nice and even without being heavy - even made me look like I'd had a decent nights sleep last night despite my being 37 weeks pregnant and up for the loo every hour! Highly recommend it!

AFrogNamedElvis · 02/05/2016 17:35

Great thread as I'm ready for a change used ProLumier for ages then switched to YSL touché eclat foundation (their concealer is shit) I think it's a bit too dry now.

Will get samples- I find Lancôme really perfumed is it ok for sensitive skins?

Youremywifenow · 02/05/2016 18:57

www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Per-fékt+Beauty+Skin+Perfection+Gel+-+Luminous+30ml/144539628,default,pd.html

This. It's the best foundation I've ever used and it's 30% off til midnight tonight. I can't recommend it enough. It's more like a gel and you can put more on where you need it and it looks like your skin has been airbrushed. Normal foundation feels horribly heavy to me since I've started using this. You don;t need primer or powder but I use a bit of clinique neutral loose powder to set it.
Some places (I think beauty bay) do a smaller size if you want to try it.

mizu · 02/05/2016 20:53

Clinique Even Better, light and looks really natural.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 02/05/2016 21:07

Trying loads now that YSL Touche Eclat foundation has been destroyed.

Surprised to find that nothing compares really. Have tried about eight so far. Current shortlist is GA Maestro (a bit light though) and Hourglass Illusion (in a tube..expensive). Have Lancome TM here to sample next. Good to hear a number of people here rate it.

SorrelForbes · 02/05/2016 21:12

I like Lancome Teint Miracle and Chanel Healthy Glow. Boots No.7 Lift and Luminate is also very good and a bit cheaper! I've found that the Estee Lauder Double wear To Go is a nicer texture than the standard DW.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 02/05/2016 21:12

Bugger.

I'm half way through my Touche éclat and dreading the end of it. Great texture and colour match.

NARS sheer glow was quite similar, I think.

idontlikealdi · 02/05/2016 21:22

I'm nearly 40 and have recently ditched foundation altogether - it was just making me look older! Am now using a cheap maybelline bb cream and my skin looks so much better.

trappedinsuburbia · 02/05/2016 21:31

Im 40 and ditched 'proper' foundation as well, far too heavy for my skin now, am using rimmel primer and loreal 'blur' bb creme, I don't live near any department stores so my choice is pretty limited to whatever superdrug have to offer.

Ponymagic · 02/05/2016 21:35

There are so many to choose from but amazing how many are ruled out simply because of the available colours. Wasn't able to sample Nars which is a pity because many posters have recommended it. For anyone shopping, I would definitely recommend thing Laura Mercier - I wore the Candle Glow today and am really pleased with it between it and the primer it stayed put all day which is a first for me Grin.

Erm what has happened to the touche éclat foundation?!

Diddlydokey · 02/05/2016 21:41

The Charlotte Tilbury magic is worth a go

fredabear · 02/05/2016 21:41

I like Dior Star, but currently enjoying Bobbi Brown compact which suits my slightly oily skin

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 02/05/2016 21:44

Idontlikealdi and trapped same here, foundation felt very ageing.

I dropped foundation for years and only wore tinted moisturiser, except the Touche Eclat this winter.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 02/05/2016 21:45

Reformulated to have heavier coverage, Incidental, which is a shame because I actually bought it because it wasn't full coverage.
