Ive had my first ever bra fitting and I can't breath in my new bra!

Ok, slight exaggeration but I don't like it!!!

Gone from a 40c to a 38dd and I just feel so constricted. The underwire at the front feels like it's digging in when I sit down. The back band feels tight and pinches slightly at the sides.

I went to an independent fitter that my friends rave about and im sure she's very good and thag it's the right size. No tape measure, just uses her eyes/fingers. She was saying all the stuff ive read about on bra fitting threads here. She scooped a load of boob from under my arm pit and stuck it in my bra cup. Showed me how on my old bra the band was too loose, she could pull it away and when I lifted my arms up it moved up, etc.

This does look like it fits better but I just don't like a good fitting bra. She said wear it for a short while at home with the tags on and if I hate it to take it back. Do I persevere? It cost me over £40. It's a fantasie Rebecca if that means anything. Will it stretch a bit? It also has little lacy edging under the band at the front which is prickling my skin and I don't like!!!

I always feel a bit uncomfortable in a new properly fitted bra for first few days. I think they need breaking in :) if you're sure it's fitted right though I'd persevere, a good fitting one is well worth having!

another thing is that the bra might simply not be the right brand or style for you. For example, I happily wear Freya/Fantasie/Fauve, but whenever I buy a Panache, it will pinch and poke, even if it's the right size - just different shape of wires. A lot of people find that the opposite is true for them.

I think it's going to have to go back. Took it off about 30 mi s and I had red indentations everywhere, where the underwires were, where the back band was, round the sides......that's not right is it?

My experience is that bras that hold everything up properly and fit correctly do leave marks where the back band and the shoulder straps are, but not where the wires are.

I'm usually quite happy in a 34D, however when I was 'properly measured' the size came out as a 30E (wtf??) - and not only is it almost impossible to find a 30E, but I came close to doing permanent damage to my internal organs whilst trying to fasten it ........ I certainly couldn't sit at a desk all day in it. I had great trouble trying to explain to DH that I couldn't walk in my new bra!!!

Marks are fine, it's like sock marks. It needs to be tight enough to do its job. So red marks ok - bleeding not ok

I don't think I care about my boobs enough to put up with red marks.

Think of it as like a new pair of shoes. They need a bit of wear before they're comfy.

But yes, I like certain 'makes' as they fit better eg the Freya seem to suit my shape.

Could you get a bra extender (haberdashery dept) until it stretches out a bit?

Take it back and find something else that fits your boobs.
Red marks are normal as it needs to be snug to do its job, not painfully so though.
Different brands and be shapes suit different shaped breasts. There was an article I read this morning about there being 7 "types" of breasts, their position etc all slightly different.

I had one of these type of fittings a while ago, put me down 2 sizes to a 36. Was told to stick with it as the bra would give over a few days. Didn't wear the bra again after the 2nd day as it had drawn blood! and I don't agree bras should leave a red mark - to me that shows its too small and a red mark means the skin is being damaged

I had similar and it literally ate into my skin. Couldn't bear it. My boobs looked fab, but I'm a bit long in the tooth to be putting up with torture for the sake of aesthetics.

I've just changed sizes and it was fucking sore for a few days, even hurt me to let my rather tiny boobs out at the end of the day. Now it's great, fits nicely and i have a much better profile than previously.

I'm umming about ordering bra extenders but then am worried the underwire wouldn't fit right.

I feel like I have got hideous back fat in an "Mn properly fitted bra"

Marks from a bra are like marks from your socks - if it doesn't leave marks then the elastic is too loose and it's doing the square root of bugger all. Mind you the marks should be from the band around the ribs and not the straps - the band should take the weight of the boobs and not the straps over the shoulder.

I find I can't wear 'plunge' bras and am better in balconette ones; plunge ones just aren't comfy because my boobs are fuller underneath and so plunge ones just push them together too much.

Maybe try some different styles in a similar size?

I get slightly pink sock marks but these bra marks were bright red lines which looked a lot worse than sock marks.

I went from a 34c to a 32f. It was uncomfortable at first. I tried on loads of different brands & styles until the fitter said i was in the right one for my breast shape. Did you try on other brands? Maybe a different make might suit you better. I'm glad I persevered because My shape is now better. I stick to Panache or Cleo because they suit my shape. Curvy Kate or Freya did nothing for me. I don't like the sound of this at all! Its put me right off bra intervention. For me comfort is far more important than appearance. I tend to wear crop tops and sports bras most of the time though ( 32 A on an old style measurement.)

Id guess an A cup can maybe get away without bra intervention more than a DD can. . Especially at my age....im worried by boobs will be by my waist without proper support before long.

I only tried one size of bra on in two different sizes.

First tried a 40d and IT felt better than what I ended up with. Fitter said it was ok but the band was a bit loose so then tried a 38dd which she said was better. I want to swap it back for the 40d.

Well, bra intervention never worked for me. My boobs look fine in a 36C and am v. comfortable. I will not torture my modern self and my boney torso with vintage corset like contraptions!

Apparently going braless makes boobs less droopy, as you need to use your muscles.
