Ive had my first ever bra fitting and I can't breath in my new bra!

Ok, slight exaggeration but I don't like it!!!

Gone from a 40c to a 38dd and I just feel so constricted. The underwire at the front feels like it's digging in when I sit down. The back band feels tight and pinches slightly at the sides.

I went to an independent fitter that my friends rave about and im sure she's very good and thag it's the right size. No tape measure, just uses her eyes/fingers. She was saying all the stuff ive read about on bra fitting threads here. She scooped a load of boob from under my arm pit and stuck it in my bra cup. Showed me how on my old bra the band was too loose, she could pull it away and when I lifted my arms up it moved up, etc.

This does look like it fits better but I just don't like a good fitting bra. She said wear it for a short while at home with the tags on and if I hate it to take it back. Do I persevere? It cost me over £40. It's a fantasie Rebecca if that means anything. Will it stretch a bit? It also has little lacy edging under the band at the front which is prickling my skin and I don't like!!!

I get back fat in any bra, but a lot less in a properly fitted one. Some bras are much stretcher than others. The wires can be different shapes. Everything's great for me in a (usually) 32GG Curvy Kate balconette, but I need a 34 band in Triumph, as they're so much stiffer. I do have a 32GG in one of their styles which fits me OK, ut it doesn't do great things for my shape - the 34F (their sizing is weird) works a lot better.

Unlike Dream Queen, I can't wear Panache or Cleo because the underwires are too U shaped and dig into the sides of my breasts (as well as looking crap)

I do have some soft cup bras for around the house - one is a 34F and the other a 36E. I wear them purely to stop me from tripping over my boobs. They're comfy for sitting around in, but they give me the worst red welts out of all my bras, at the end of the day, as the band moves around too much.

I wonder if you might actually have needed a bigger cup, WTFIS. Did she give you a 38E to try on? And did she give you any other styles. If you went to Bravissimo, they will replace anything they have fitted if it doesn't work out, IIRC.

TheToys - there is no hard evidence for that. The bulk of a large boob is not attached directly to muscle. The causation for the correlation is more likely to be the other way around. People with nice, firm, well behaved and not heavy boobs are more likely to go braless.

No didn't try a 38e and didn't try any other styles. They will take it back, she said she would. So I will go back next week.

Ive found an old bra extender and tried it on with that. It does feel a lot better and still seems to fit ok but there is one point each side at the back which still digs in and I think it's the style. The strap at the back curves up quite thickly to join the shoulder strap and I think pinches my back fat there. I think I need a style with a different shape back strap as it just seems to catch when my shoulder blade moves.....does that make sense?

I've got that bra and it's really comfy. Sometimes they are better when you wash them and use fabric conditioner.

Freya are a nice fit, but that fantasie Rebecca is really nice. I've recently bought one and I love it.

It sounds like you really need to try more styles. Bras are kind of like jeans, a total pain in the ass to find a pair that fits well! And if they feel perfect when you try them on, they're too loose after you've worn them for an hour, so you have to break them in a bit!

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 13/04/2016 20:51

Maybe if I washed it the straps would be softer and wouldn't dig in as much. But it's a gamble to take on a £41 bra as I wouldn't be able to return it then.

I know its important to have a well fitting bra but not at the cost of making you feel ill sorry.
I agree, could be the fit of that particular bra. I measured myself using the bra intervention too and found myself going from a 34B to a 32F or possibly a 30F as I was inbetween sizes. No way could I do the 30 and as for the 32, it took ages to get used to it. I used bra extenders and took my bra off when I got home from work and put on a comfy sports bra to sleep it. My 32F had loosened up but I may have also lost weight, not sure. It is now comfy now and feels right.

Hm. My bras always feel best when they're new. They last about a year and then start to give and that's when I replace them. M&s ones that cosy about £25. Again I usually try to catch a sale. If you're uncomfortable right at the start is question it. I know you've been wearing a much looser bra but a bra that fits YOU well shouldn't be that uncomfortable.

I find they are always tight at first but I can put up with it because my clothes hang so well and my waist looks slimmer !
