Ballet Pumps you don't need to grip with your toes to keep on?

Not sure if it's only me who has this problem, but I find that any ballet pump requires me to claw my toes in order to keep the shoe on. This has caused corns (attractive I know) so I'm looking for a better ballet pump. I think this is because the grip (or top) of the cut of your basic ballerina is too loose for my foot although I have a wide foot and have tried many different sizes and styles - even the Shoe Therapy style that is suggested for pregnant women. Does anyone else have this problem and found a solution? Thoughts much appreciated!

I've had some from Monsoon which have a wide elastic around the top in the same colour as the leather. These worked well for me and were very comfortable- maybe worth a look there

I know what you mean! I tend to go for ones with a strap across which keeps them on so you don't have to grip. Also ballet pumps that are completely flat aren't good for your feet, maybe somewhere like Clarks would do some better ones?

That is the nature of ballet pumps. A good friend of mine is a podiatrist and hates ballet pumps for this, and other, reason. She'd much rather everyone wore shoes with fastenings.

Thanks for the responses. I think you are right that I need a strap or elastic across the top, so more of a Mary-Jane style ballet pump (a majump??!). Thanks!

Yy to the elastic around the top. New Look is worth a look too-- I found some there last year.

I saw some wide fit ones in the Land's End catalogue. They looked as though they were slightly elasticated. I know that description makes them sound horrendous, but they looked ok. I can't wear " normal ballet pumps as I have wide feet with long toes, so they just fall off, but these looked possible.

Watching with hopeful interest, I got tendonitis in my foot from wearing ballet flats, it was agony. I do love them though

I work in a shoe shop and have people in with this problem very often! It seems that for some people no ballet pumps work at all. We have loads if different brands so different cuts and width fittings but it doesn't seem to make any real difference. Frustrating I know!

I also put padded inserts in mine for a bit more cushioning and support!

They have other colours, make my huge hooves look smaller and are v comfy.

I have some patent clarks ones that are very comfy and dont slip off, I have narrow feet but these are very comfy and have a proper sole. I recommend

Elastic round the top and no need to 'claw'

Hush Puppies Janessa has a little loop behind teh ankle so you can thread through a bit of ribbon to tether it around your ankle. Works a treat (though I realise that it would spoil the look for some outfits, works quite cutely for others)

i need to buy ones with straps. boden have loads of great styles with straps but because i have narrow feet, the 6 are too short but 7 are too wide!

ive gone for these lace ups with zips at the back so i dont have to keep tying up when im in a rush to leave in the mornings:

Thanks for all the great ideas. I wonder whether, if we sat down with a podiatrist and a shoe manufacturer , we could come up with the perfect, no-claw, one-inch heel stylish ballet pump and then all become millionaires!

Gabor usually stay on without toe clawing, you have to choose carefully though as some of the styles are a little dubious.

I bloody hate ballet pumps (and faux Uggy boots, they go baggy like a big sock)

Anyway. There's nothing to hold them on except if they are too tight. So your toes claw otherwise they'd slip up and down on your heel, you'd walk out of them or they'd come off.
They offer no support. Look at the way they wear and people pronate ( flat foot)
Theres no room in them for toes to funtion.

If you look at the proper ballet shoes (like proper ballerinas wear) they are knackered after a very short time, ballet dancers often tape their feet. They aren't a fashion shoe in the world of ballet.
One of the worst pair of feet I ever saw belonged to a retired professional dancer.

Though, like everything, people will wear them because they don't cause problems at the time. And we have free will to wear what we like after all.

I just bought a couple of pairs of Les P'tites Bombes ballerinas. They have elastic around the edge so stay on easily. Plenty of nice colours too.
