I am 30 and currently have bad cellulite. Is there anything I can do to reduce it?

I find that body brushing helps, but I'm not very consistent! I've never used creams or oils etc, as it's hard to believe they actually do much.

Esspee · 18/03/2016 12:13

I remember a fitness guru in the U.S. who insisted that the key to cellulite was knowing how to spell it. He spelt it "f a t". Stubborn fat, yes, but lose the weight and exercise to develop muscle and eventually the cellulite goes.
Does anyone agree with this?

skippy67 · 18/03/2016 13:51

Body brushing works for me too.

BumbleNova · 18/03/2016 16:34

sorry jeremy - unless you loose the fat, there is nothing that works. no creams, no body brushing. dont waste your money. squats and deadlifts are your friends.

eurochick · 18/03/2016 16:35

I agree with esspee. The only way to shift it is by losing fat.

Branleuse · 18/03/2016 16:39

Mine practically disappeared when i made sure I was drinking 2 litres of plain water a day on top of my normal drinks.

I need to start doing it again

peppercold · 18/03/2016 16:41

I went from 11 stone to 8. Still have cellulite!

Esspee · 18/03/2016 17:27

Have you been doing specific exercises to work on the problem areas Peppercold?

Gwenhwyfar · 18/03/2016 21:47

"Have you been doing specific exercises to work on the problem areas Peppercold?"

It's not possible to spot reduce is it?

Gwenhwyfar · 18/03/2016 21:48

"fitness guru in the U.S. who insisted that the key to cellulite was knowing how to spell it. He spelt it "f a t". Stubborn fat, yes, but lose the weight and exercise to develop muscle and eventually the cellulite goes."

Only partly. I've heard people say that even female athletes have cellulite so you can still be thin and have a concentration of fat in certain areas.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/03/2016 21:55

I'm sure skin type plays a factor too. I have quite thin skin and appalling cellulite.

You don't often see cellulite on a man, they tend to have thicker skin I'm sure my fat is also an issue though

Handsupbabyhandsup · 18/03/2016 21:58

I have got rid of mine but not sure how! Not much help really!!

I do drink a lot of water, I lost weight (but gained some back) and I do a few bootcamp classes a week - so do a bit of squatting, lunging etc.

Knackeredknitter67 · 19/03/2016 04:39

Oddly I had some in my 20's and now don't in my 40's. I drank a lot way back then, and now do a lot of working out with weights. I do weighted squats and sets of lunges. A lot. I also eat a lot more veg.

leadrightfoot · 19/03/2016 05:52

When I move more, drink lots of water, eat proper unprocessed food and body brush daily mine went.

Stop any of the above for even a short while and it's like a bad penny

Knackeredknitter67 · 19/03/2016 12:14

I body brush too

Gwenhwyfar · 19/03/2016 12:33

"You don't often see cellulite on a man, they tend to have thicker skin "

Fat doesn't concentrate in the same places for men. It's hormonal. They don't have breasts either (generally).

jeremyisahunt · 19/03/2016 13:57

Op here.

I'm about a size 12, so I don't have much fat really.

I'm vegetarian. Could that be a factor?

What are deadlifts?

Deadlifts are something you do when lifting weights. I do them as part of s body pump class.

You basically hold a bar (weightlifting bar with weights) and lower the bar just past your knees, then stand up again. It's probably best to get someone to show you the right technique or you could end up injured.

I lift weights and do lots of swats, lunges & deadlifts. I think it helps but I still have pretty bad cellulite.

macnab · 21/03/2016 11:00

Definitely body brushing and upping my water intake works for me. When I remember to do it consistently Hmm

Neither costs anything really so you might as well give them a go, might work for you too!

carrie74 · 21/03/2016 13:31

Yup, mine greatly reduced when I started working out (weights mainly, squats, lunges etc). I also don't drink much but couldn't say whether that had an effect or not.

KittyandTeal · 21/03/2016 13:35

My cellulite hasn't changed size 16 or size 10, fit and toned or not. I still have it on the top of my thighs and bum. That's it though.

I'd love to get rid of it as I run in shorts in the summer and it's not a pretty sight!

KittyandTeal · 21/03/2016 13:35

Could someone explain body brushing to me please?

Doobigetta · 21/03/2016 16:05

Use a medium-soft brush and brush in upward sweeps from your knee to your hip. I do 12 strokes per leg per day (number selected at random). I don't agree that it's just about fat- you see very slim women with lots of cellulite, and much bigger women with none. Body brushing has definitely helped mine look better. L'oreal do a lotion that helped as well. Can't remember what it's called but it had caffeine in it. Also might be worth trying lymphatic drainage massage.

KittyandTeal · 21/03/2016 16:12

Thanks doob, I'll look into getting a body brush. Worth a go.
