And still aren't loosing weight ?
It's not even funny.
I've been doing the fitness pal diet tracking, I always come in under calories but around 1500 a day.
I'm 5'9" and 11 stone so a good size 12 but i want to be a comfortable one instead. I really can't think what else to do, am body pumping and spinning once a week too.

I'm 5ft 5in
When I'm 11 stone I'm a 10 on the bottom, 8 on the top.

I was almost 12 stone when I got married and I wore a size 10 wedding dress.

I need to lose a couple of stone now though as I've gone up a few Wine

Btw, I speak from personal experience on the keep going front. Started Pilates again in January after 4/5 years; also switched to porridge breakfast as above and walking round about then (illness and work meant I had put on weight before Christmas, despite a healthy diet). 2 months down the line I fit more easily in my jeans and dresses hang better, but I do not think I will have the silhouette I want before the summer.

What has changed is that I now really enjoy the Pilates (I think it took 6 weeks to go from hating going to looking forward to it), semi-skimmed milk now tastes wrong (too fatty), and I am less hungry than before, so eat smaller lunches and suppers. Also realised my supposedly low calorie lunch (small chirashi salad, most days) was actually moderately calorific and high GI, so made me hungry again before supper. Switched to another sushi lunch with more fish and slightly less rice (salmon tartare on a bed, from Itsu), which is fewer calories and reliably keeps me feeling full until 8pm.

Oh, and fruit (plain) after every meal. Works well for DH as well, he lost over a stone in 2 months (though he runs too).

Hi OP - I'm also 5ft 9ins.

At the start of 2015 I was 78Kg and a size 12 on top, 14 on bottom. I'm a classic pear shape so always have large bum/thighs, small waist.
I did 5:2 last year and reached 68kg by June which I then maintained through to January. I was a 10 on top and 12 bottom. I was fairly happy with 68kg but still have fat knees

I then managed to catch proper flu at the end of Jan and ended up with pneumonia and an internal bacterial infection which needed a 10 day hospital stay. When I got out of hospital I was 62kg - and looked pretty awful - gaunt was how DM described me.
I - temporarily - was a size 8 on my bottom - but still had fat knees!!

I'm now back up to 65kg and hoping it's stable. Size 10 ish on my bum, having to accept my fat knees will always be with me.

Sorry this is a bit of a long post but in summary, I think you maybe need a change of routine to try and jump start weight loss if you really want to lose more. However you may still find it refuses to go from where you really want it.
That said 5:2 does fit well with hectic days as eating then becomes one less thing to do.

"Gwen because caffeine interferes with the bodies ability to deal with glucose, leading to higher blood sugar levels. "

What? Green tea has caffeine in it!!!

honeyharris · 19/03/2016 12:56

I cant understand how some of you are such small sizes for your weights - 5 foot 10 here, 10 1/2 stone and a size 14! (wide hips though)

Greengardenpixie · 19/03/2016 13:05

Try the 5:2 diet. It takes time but its brilliant. There is a thread on mumsnet. I found it hard to lose weight. Tried this and it totally fits in with my life. Restrict you intake by 2 days and basically eat normally on the other 3. You can plateau but it does come off eventually. I have now chucked the scales away and go on my clothes and how loose/tight they feel.

Re: coffee:- there are "several plausible biological mechanisms" by which coffee might benefit health, including substances in coffee which reduce resistance to insulin and calm inflammation in the body."

Source: NHS.

Note 'plausible' and 'might'. However, the NHS has repeatedly published denials that coffee & caffeine are known to increase insulin resistance.

Green tea has much lower levels of caffeine than coffee and black tea.
I know its anecdotal but since I changed my diet (and there was a lot more to it than cutting out coffee) I have lost two stone and regulated my periods.

MarshaBrady · 19/03/2016 14:27

You might find low carb easier. It stops the hunger and works well.

eddielizzard · 19/03/2016 18:05

Room101 I'm fascinated! please tell more...

I've done MFP and never ever lost weight on their version of 1500 calories. I also had to programme 1200 as you always eat slightly more than you think, even if you are obsessively weighing stuff.

If you post on the Weight loss chat forum which is where all the experts on this are a lot of people have found the same. There are some v long running MFP threads there as well.

Kirriemuir · 19/03/2016 22:44

If you want to lose and not count calories then look at Zoe harcombe.

Hi eddie I follow a low GI eating plan. It works on the basis of eating foods which don't cause your blood sugar to spike. The book I used to kick start it is 'the low GI diet' by Jennie Brand Miller.
It has a week by week plan but I didn't follow that, I mainly use it to look up the gi index of a food.
As I am doing this to sort out PCOS, I also cut down hugely on the amount of dairy I have (hormones in cows milk might have an impact on PCOS). I have one cup of black tea in the morning, to kick start myself but then only green/herbal.
I also cut out alcohol as this is a BAD thing for PCOS sufferers.
I'm meant to eat every three hours while awake, to stop blood sugar getting low.
It is slightly restrictive and can be a pita but within two months of doing it, my cycle was back to being 28 days.
The weight loss was so gradual that most people didn't notice. I've stayed at around nine stone for over two years now.
I'm a bit more relaxed about having the occasional chocolate bar and glass of wine at this point in time.

eddielizzard · 20/03/2016 08:02

thanks. i agree low gi is the key. i'll get that book.

MeMySonAndl · 20/03/2016 08:12

Unless you have pretty skinny bones, being 5'9"!and size 12 is actually a very good size going on the (very) skinny side.

Honestly, if your bone structure doesn't allow for you to look like a super model (I could starve myself to death and still have big hips) you just need to concentrate in finding the sort of clothes that flatter you by disguising the things you cannot change.

The tummy is a bugger though, you can only get rid of it by doing a lot of aerobic exercise (or wearing clothes that have the waist just under your boobs)
