Acid toners

I'm sure this has been done before but search keeps timing out for me on here today so apologies! Any recommendations?
Is Pixi Glow true to the hype? Or the Nip+fab pads?
I have weird skin, dry flaky patches on cheeks and chin, oily forehead, some hormonal spots, occasional bouts of cystic acne.

Fanks!

I've been wondering about Liquid Gold, is that any good?

MsBojangles · 23/02/2016 16:43

I personally love LG though not everyone is in to it.

Think of it as more as a treatment than a toner though, you should only use it 2 or 3 times a week. It's like a kick up the bum for my skin, like a reminder of how it used to behave 20 years ago Grin

Missionitreat · 23/02/2016 17:15

I used liquid gold for the first time last night after umming and ahhing about it for the best part of year. I have to say it is pretty amazing stuff. Although my face went bright red on application and broke out half way through the night by the morning my skin looked noticeable better.

Tonight already I have just used the micro scrub which has made my skin feel lovely and soft. I have put a serum on, that I know won't react.
It is not for everyone I know but my skin needs an extra push and this definitely seems to be working.
My skin type is normal/sensitive.
I wish I had bought it earlier although my skin has responded well to other products so at least the LG will be working on looked after skin.
My skin initially did love the clearasil pads and cleared up well, then I used nip and fab dragons blood, and now LG to really sort out old faint scarring and redness.

Missionitreat · 23/02/2016 17:17

*alpha h micro scrub which came with the liquid gold.

  • my serum is Clinique smart serum, it's a tester that my skin likes so I know it's safe to use.
Missionitreat · 23/02/2016 17:26

However it is early days so don't go rushing out on my account but it is working very well so far for me which I'm delighted about.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 23/02/2016 19:19

How'z the healing MsBojangles

Did you try sudacrem?

MsBojangles · 23/02/2016 21:32

Thanks for asking Lumpy!

I had a rather fetching pale pink sudocrem tache last night, utterly delightful let me tell you. Today I've been smearing on the diprobase ointment like nobodies business , so much more discreet Hmm

Hard to tell what's going on under there but it's definitely not got any worse. My FAB pads arrived so there's no way I'll be able to resist trying those babies tomorrow

Nabootique · 24/02/2016 09:55

Hello, hello. How did I miss an acid toning thread?! My favourites are Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Peel Pads for hardcore and Bravura Calendula for more gentle. Also use on rotation:

Nip+Fab Dragons Blood
Nip+Fab Glycolic
Nip+Fab Extreme
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel (original strength)

In the past I've also used Pixi Glow (not impressed, but gave it to my friend who loves it).

FlorenceandMary · 24/02/2016 16:12

From my use I was not that impressed with Pixi Glow, liked it but didn't love (admittedly I was sparing with use and I think it went off when I was using it diligently).

I've tried the following brands Nip+Fab, First Aid and Clearasil

In order of preference
Clearasil Daily Clear Superfruits Refreshing Pads - these are so powerful and can really feel them working (can only seem to find on Amazon etc these days)
First Aid Beauty can use these a bit more regularly as not so much of a punch - more a slap!
Nip+Fab as a budget version (and often on offer in Boots) is great although not as powerful as the previous two but you can use them on a daily basis and achieve same results. I guess it's just a case of working out which actually is more cost effective / your skin needs.

ceeveebee · 21/03/2016 00:11

Nip and fab all 1/2 price at ocado at the moment!!

honeyharris · 21/03/2016 08:08

Forgive me for being novice - does double cleanse basically mean take your make up off then wash your face?

missapples · 23/03/2016 18:26

Hi yes could someone also clarify for me what double cleansing is? X

LumpySpacedPrincess · 23/03/2016 19:03

Double cleanse is exactly what it says on the packet, cleansing twice.

First oil cleanse, I'm using this at the mo but I also use other oils. This is where oil cleansers get off the bus and double cleansers stay on.

Then you use a foaming cleanser to remove oily residue. You can use the cleanser with your fingers, Konjac Sponge or a bubble net, my new favourite! Smile

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 23/03/2016 19:14

I liked pixi and used a whole bottle up, but have moved onto these and can see a difference already

honeyharris · 23/03/2016 23:24

Thanks Lumpy. What is this bubble net? Just got a Konjac sponge though it was a couple of quid on eBay so quite possibly not proper in some way.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/03/2016 06:16

this is a bubble net, I got mine for a quid of ebay, 2 for a quid!

Lots of low ph cleansers have removed all the chemicals that made them foam a lot. quite rightly! A bubble net makes a massive pile of foam from a little blob of cleanser, then you work the foam in with your fingers. I still use my Konjac but I tend to be using the bubble net more as it feels so lovely.

missapples · 26/03/2016 16:42

Thanks everyone, for the double cleanse, would washing with a glycol if then going over with a toner work as a method? Has anyone used any of the bravura toners? They have an offer on this weekend and need my dermaflannel replacing X

LumpySpacedPrincess · 26/03/2016 17:51

By washing with glycol do you mean a glycerin soap? If so step away from the soap and get yourself some oil.

missapples · 26/03/2016 22:36

Sorry lumpy typo there. I use a Jan Marini glycolic wash, have done for years and do like the cleanser. Just wanting the clarify do I do this twice? Or can I use a toner after to "double cleanse"? X

LumpySpacedPrincess · 27/03/2016 11:04

Double cleansing simply gets the skin really clean and prepared to accept your actives, Vitamin C etc.

The first cleanse with oil breaks down make up and also removes sunscreen which a lot of cleansers struggle with, the low ph foam wash removes the oily residue and also makes your skin feel spanking gorgeous!

If the cleanser you use achieves that goal then job done.

missapples · 27/03/2016 16:21

Hi lumpy think I'll have a go at the oil first then my cleanser, which one do you use? Xx

DougalTheCheshireCat · 27/03/2016 16:52

Good thread! Place marking

LumpySpacedPrincess · 27/03/2016 18:01

I'm using this one at the mo but I've got a stack of different oils. This is really good though and make up melts off, it emulsifies well with a bit of water and the rest comes off with a steamy cloth.

Then I use a low ph cleanser and make a stack of foam with my bubble net. I really enjoy cleansing and love the ritual aspect of it, from selecting the product to use to taking some time out of the day for self care.

Specksofwhiteallaround · 28/03/2016 23:24

Hoping someone more knowledgeable can give me some advice. I recently bought some of the nip + fab glycolic pads, the superdrug clearly youthful night serum and a glycolic overnight peel and I'm not sure on the order I use them in?
At the moment my nightly routine is to cleanse with the body shops chamomile butter then use the glycolic pads, then the serum and finish off with my usual moisturiser but I've no idea when to add in the peel and I'm dying to give it a whirl. Do I use it in place of the serum? And do I moisturise before or after it or not at all?
