Acid toners

I'm sure this has been done before but search keeps timing out for me on here today so apologies! Any recommendations?
Is Pixi Glow true to the hype? Or the Nip+fab pads?
I have weird skin, dry flaky patches on cheeks and chin, oily forehead, some hormonal spots, occasional bouts of cystic acne.

Fanks!

I'm trying the Dragon's Blood pads and so far I like them. I also use Vichy normaderm toner as that is better under my day moisturiser. I use the Dragon's Blood at night.
I'd really love to have a proper peel where your skin comes off. Can't really afford it though.

yazzy85 · 12/02/2016 21:02

First Aid Beauty (FAB) Pads are also very good. For an extra exfoliation treatment Liquid Gold AHA can also be used a few times in the week but it is stronger.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/02/2016 21:39

I use nip and fab extreme pads, la Roche posay effaclar duo cream.

Double cleansing helps too.

Wadingthroughsoup · 12/02/2016 22:20

Thank you very much jennyblonde- sounds amazing! I don't use Instagram but I think my OH has an account so maybe I can use his sign in to have a look. Many thanks. :)

CatchAPlaneToBarcelona · 13/02/2016 04:19

I am using my first bottle of Pixie Glow now. It smells lovely, but I can't say I've noticed anything fantabulous about it. Before that I had the Nip and Fab pads which I liked, they felt a bit more hardcore if you know what I mean but honestly I still can't say I noticed a difference. Except that you do realise how much grime is still on your face even after wet cleansing.

MiniCooperLover · 13/02/2016 08:43

Are these the right ones? So you use them after cleansing and before moisturiser? Morning and evening or just once? Cheers

Methenyouplus4 · 13/02/2016 08:58

Do you think the pads represent good value for money? I have used pads in the past (Aveda) and felt it didn't offer good value for money as (for example) 30 pads last about a month whereas a bottle of toner with my own pads will last more like 3. It's putting me off buying the nip and fab.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/02/2016 09:21

Those are the ones, yes.

I have them (again) at the moment, because I got a set in the sale in Superdrug, a pot of pads and a glycolic fix cleanser (which is horrible, it's one of those weird gel/emulsion things which comes out as a clear gel and turns into thick greasy milk on your face- it may work wonders but the texture is very off putting) I got both for £8 though so it seemed good at the time.

I don't think though they are as good value as a bottle of toner, and tbh, they don't do anything that the Olay/Time Delay ones for about £3 less do.

Liquid Gold did diddly squat for me...but a glycolic peel of 30% from Bravura was superb. (check out the old schizzle threads from 2 yrs ago, MN was peeling in beautiful unison!)

Cheesymonster · 13/02/2016 12:33

Methenyouplus4 that's why I switched to the Olay toner.

GarlicBake · 13/02/2016 12:42

For fellow cheapskates and purists (and making no promises, I'm not a chemist!)

Malic acid

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/02/2016 14:13

Catch There shouldn't be any grime after cleansing Confused. Do a double cleanse instead for longer.

I spend at least 10 minutes cleansing.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 13/02/2016 22:00

Love cleansing, that's my little slice out of the day. I put an audiobook on and have my ten minutes. Oil cleanse, Konjac sponge with cleanser, PH adjusting toner, bliss. Smile

MiniCooperLover · 16/02/2016 22:18

Fluffycloudland77, how do you give the LRP Effaclar Duo? I've started using it with a cleanser and toner (it came in a pack) and I find too little and my face feels dry, more and I feel like I've got a strange layer on my skin. Is my photo the same as yours?

Acid toners
Fluffycloudland77 · 17/02/2016 08:09

That's the one. I don't use the cleansers, dh does but has a grimey job.

I use merumeya balm cleanser twice then lrp one night and nip fab extreme pads the next.

Lrp every morning but no toner.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 17/02/2016 16:23

AFAIK the Effaclar duo is for spots/acne etc. It certainly transformed dd's face/forehead. So, it's more of a topical treatment I think? She just dobbles it onto her forehead rather than use it as an all over moisturiser.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/02/2016 17:59

I use it all over, anything that speeds up skin turnover is good for anti ageing too.

andadietcoke · 17/02/2016 18:06

I use Liquid Gold every other night, and Pixi Glow Tonic on other nights. In the morning I use the First Aid Beauty facial pads. My skin is good enough to go without makeup as a result (as long as I've had a decent amount of sleep!!)

SuffolkNWhat · 17/02/2016 21:57

Which acid toner would you recommend (if any) for eczema affected skin? I despair at my flakey skin and just need something to work.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 18/02/2016 16:14

Suffolk, I would start by gently double cleansing, first with oil to remove makeup then with a gentle ph neutral cleanser, I use mine with a Konjac sponge.

After cleansing I would use some hydrating toner, choose one that is not perfumed and alcohol free, then mist that over your face.

I would also use a hydrating serum, one with Hyaluronic acid, before topping up with a moisturiser. I would also top it all off with an occlusive to keep all that hydration in, I swear by Mizon snail recovery gel as it is so soothing.

Only ever introduce one new thing at a time and use it for a good few weeks before adding anything else into your routine.

I don't have eczema but I have very dry skin.

MiniCooperLover · 19/02/2016 07:35

I don't like the La Roche Posay range that I bought last week (starter pack). Though it's cleaning nicely it makes my face feel off, like there's a film of chalk on it, plus I think it's making it more sensitive. So I've changed tactic and moved to a No.7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Oil with Protect and Perfect Day and Night cream. It's only been 3 washes but already my skin feels better. So fingers crossed.

honeyharris · 20/02/2016 12:24

Which acid would be good for someone who is both ageing and spotty? (lovely mental image I've created there).

LumpySpacedPrincess · 20/02/2016 12:48

Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (bha) so it will clean your pores and gently exfoliate your skin. This will lead to less spots as there will be less to get in the mix even if your hair follicles are producing too much sebum.

Hyaluronic acid is really hydrating which takes care of dryness and nourishes the skin. My skin was like yours, aging and spotty! Grin

I have had great results using Salicylic acid and I hardly ever get a spot now.

I also swear by a good Vitamin C serum and use it daily, that has had an amazing effect on my skin though, like with all serums, it takes time for the results to come through.

I use a aha/bha acid toner prior to using my C serum, then I hydrate my skin and finally top it off with some snail gel, or rosehip oil if it's nighttime.

squoosh · 20/02/2016 13:10

Which Vit C serum do you use Lumpy?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 20/02/2016 13:29

I'm just getting to the bottom of this one.

I also have this one, which they let you try for free. Smile

I have this one too. They also give you products for free to try, but you have to offer a review on Amazon, hardly a hardship!

Abraid2 · 20/02/2016 13:32

Bio yoghurt makes a great lactic acid mask.
