Are you always well-presented?

Do you always make an effort to look good, even when, say, just doing grocery?

How important is it for you to look well-presented at all times?

It's personal choice really. It's nice to mix it up. It's nice to practice self-care. It's nice to express oneself.

It's also nice to relax.

I think if I lived in a culture or was part of a social group that put too much pressure on me to look a certain way and judged on appearance, I would instantly judge them right back and see if I couldn't find ways to detach or move on.

I visually appreciate a nice outfit on others (men and women) but also their manners, kindness, and intelligence always override

(disclaimer - this does not apply to sexual attraction Blush).

As I get older I find I "make instant judgements" based on someone's appearance a lot less - on their behaviour and conduct - and this can only be a good thing.

I shudder to think of some of the stereotypes I grew up with (from family or the media) and how when I was younger I came to unpleasant and unkind and untrue ideas about people!

IkeaGoddess · 23/01/2016 13:14

(personally I probably mix it up).

I'm a runner so like to run to things to save time so frequently shop in running clothes.

I have a long, arduous commute to work so comfort and time-saving there is absolutely the biggest deal for me.

Then I spend about five hours picking clothes for some events.

I try to have a fairly easy-maintenance style - eg I like my basic physique, aim for good posture, eat for my skin, and (try to but don't succeed 100%) keep my hair in a style which looks fine whatever it's condition or stage in the washing cycle.

I'm no make-up which is fine. I do have some tinted lip balm.

burnishedsilver · 23/01/2016 13:15

Yes. If I look a mess I feel a mess. I always make an effort no matter where I'm going. If I'm not leaving the house that's a different story.

Buttwing · 23/01/2016 13:23

Yes. I'm often dressed casually but with a blow dry and a full face of slap, nails are always done and eyebrows to and a bit of fake tan of I'm feeling pale. God I sound like I'm from towie!!

ouryve · 23/01/2016 13:28

Hell no.

Clean and covered in all the right places is my base line.

madmomma · 23/01/2016 17:54

Thanks Jmangel xxx

Depends what you mean by well presented really. I always always have tinted moisturiser/mascara/lip balm as a minimum, and I do think about my clothes and want them to look stylish, but sometimes it's stylish well matched yoga gear rather than high fashion.

toffeeboffin · 23/01/2016 19:35

I always have make up on and have fairly clean, brushed hair. Won't leave the house without make up unless very ill or in labour.

Heading closer towards very groomed for work, at weekends it's just not always possible with two year old DS. One weekends I'm lucky if I manage a coordinating outfit!

If I'm just heading out for groceries I'll put pop balm on, nice scarf etc, only takes a second.

toffeeboffin · 23/01/2016 19:36

Pop balm = lip balm

toffeeboffin · 23/01/2016 19:42

FWIW I feel a million times more confident, assertive and attractive when I'm done up in a suit for work. And I'm definitely treated totally differently. I look waaaaay younger when I'm just in jeans and a sweater.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/01/2016 19:45

Yes..always wear a skirt with different tops, pumps or boots, usually a necklace and full makeup.

museumum · 23/01/2016 19:50

No
I dress appropriately. Appropriate for today was trackies and a hoody. I had the campervan gas bottle replaced, went up into the loft for stuff, dropped a bike off for repair and went to the gym.
If anybody thinks I should have had makeup and heels on for those jobs then I think they're vain and crazy.

BlueBlueBelles · 23/01/2016 19:52

Mostly yes. Work I am always smart in a dress or shirt and trousers with a jacket. Out of work im always in some sort of skinny jeans/ skirt and tights with a jumper/jumper dress and boots this time of year. Apart from when I'm running, I always wear make up and wear my hair nicely (though that's easier now with a fringe) to go anywhere. Wouldn't ever go out in tracksuit or joggers, or unpresented tbh

TeaT1me · 23/01/2016 19:55

No. I think my values might be different very different to someone who can't leave the house with a full face on!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/01/2016 19:57

Why?it's just a bit of makeup. I can leave house without it perfectly happily. Just prefer to wear it.

BlueBlueBelles · 23/01/2016 19:57

My version of "full face on" is a smear of eyeshadow, a small line of eyeliner, and a coat of mascara. Takes me 3 minutes.

pollylovespie · 23/01/2016 20:05

I don't like going out without make up on because I look awful without it- no eyebrows and blotchy skin. Easier not to care about make up if you're gorgeous!

LoadsaBlusher · 23/01/2016 21:35

Yes, I always make an effort , regardless of where I am going.

Hair done, full make up, co- ordinated clothing , nails pristine.

It helps me to " face the world", I feel more confident when I am well presented.

I am a planner though, and have mine and DCs outfits ironed and laid out the night before whether it's for work/ school or our day off going shopping or activities .

DinosaursRoar · 23/01/2016 21:49

define well presented - I don't wear dirty clothes, wash hair every other day and shower daily, I haven't left the house without at least a little make up on since approximately 2002.

I don't get very 'glamed up', but that's the basic for leaving the house and would do before school run and first thing on a weekend anyway, so if I had to pop to the shops, already sorted.

I don't own any trackie bottoms, or a hoodie. I've never felt the need to buy them.

Higge · 23/01/2016 21:49

No - I walk my dog through town, through very muddy paths and parks - other dogs jump up and cover me in mud - this is a daily occurrence and I run & do bootcamp in the park...so that means more mud - I'll kick off the excess mud before I pop into Waitrose on the way home, is that an effort? Wink I'll happily not shower for a few days while camping or doing multi day hikes.

I'll shower and put my face on when I get home though.

Lucymatilde · 25/01/2016 13:50

I'm with Loadsa - always made up and dressed "right" as my granny used to say. Answering the door to the postman etc causes a problem with the females in this house if we're not properly presentable. Always respectfully neat and tidy everywhere.

MNetter15 · 25/01/2016 17:17

Yes, almost always. It's actually very easy and not time consuming at all, once your wardrobe is well organised. I can do make up in a few minutes.

I was in a bad place for a few years after having DC and completely neglected my appearance, so I'm adamant that I won't allow myself to slip back there again

MsBojangles · 25/01/2016 20:19

I'm not getting out of the house much due to anxiety and other ishoooes so most of the time I just lurk around the house in my comfy stuff, hair up in a bun - the dog is the only one who sees my and he doesn't give a toss.

On the rare occasions that I do make it outside, I do make an effort to swishify my hair, apply light make up and wear decent flattering clothes. Honestly the contrast is so stark that I look and feel like a different person.

Lottie2611 · 25/01/2016 20:35

Yes, always. Always have a full face of make up and always have my hair done.
I enjoy doing it.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/01/2016 22:04

Yes.
bag, Jewellery nail polish and jacket. All have to match or at least compliment what I'm wearing
Make up always done.
