They are not dry but look utterly shite- dd says they are Granny hands Angry I am guilty of not using hand cream/gloves etc for washing and scrubbing or gardening and am paying the price now. Skin lacks elasticity, is wrinkly and I have the dreaded age spots starting ( I am 52)

I don't like that hemp one from Body shop or Neutrogena Norwegian Formula

Does anyone have one to recommend please? Don't want to go down the Madonna-with-gloves route

Clarins is the best hand cream ever (but pricey!). I also like Burts Bees almond cream in a jar, Neal's Yard hand creams ( look out for these on magazine freebies!) and my son's Epaderm which you can also buy at the chemist or in Tesco.

Have creams by each sink, in every handbag, by your bed, on your desk etc that way you're more likely to remember to use them!

Neutrogena

FreeButtonBee · 16/01/2016 21:52

L'occitane Shea butter one. I buy the enormous tubes and they last forever. You need very little and run over the backs of your hands and nails first with only a tiny bit on your palms. But it's the only one j can use and still happily type/use an office phone etc

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/01/2016 21:53

Vaseline jelly and cotton gloves at night

L'Occitane Verbena (I find the Shea is quite matte)

BodyShop Absinthe but it's lightweight (I use it for the smell )

Welda skin food is amazing.

Silverpinkswirls · 17/01/2016 01:56

Atrixo.

IPokeBadgers · 18/01/2016 14:05

wandering round like Hagrid!

Thanks OP, that has made me giggle like an idiot.

DragonboysMum · 18/01/2016 14:16

I've always found the Liz Earle one very good at sorting out my cracked, disgusting hands when I've let them go too far.

Scarletforya · 18/01/2016 21:00

The best thing I ever used on my hands was Lanisoh, yes breastfeeding nipple cream. It works on cracked, sore nipples but I used it on my hands which were chapped to bits from washing and sterilising.

Expensive but excellent.

elephantoverthehill · 18/01/2016 21:03

It sounds like you need barrier cream on during the day. Engineers, motor mechanics and plumbers use it. It has the same effect as wearing rubber gloves although you can't see it. I understand about the Body Shop Hemp but their Butter (cocoa?) is really nice it comes in a yellow pot and smells quite lemony. Failing that good old E45.

iluvnettletea · 18/01/2016 21:06

Aveeno with the blue lid and washing up gloves.

WhataRacquet · 18/01/2016 23:16

Joules Perfect Pruning hand scrub and LRP Cicaplast hand cream.

Buttercup443 · 18/01/2016 23:29

Lanolin

The same stuff you use for sore nipples.
Put it on before you go to bed, put single use gloves on for the night or mittens and wake up to babysit hands in the mornings.

Heals cuts and scrapes too. Best thing ever, and no additives or chemicals, just pure wool fat.

Buttercup443 · 18/01/2016 23:30

Doesn't smell btw

MrsSiba · 19/01/2016 00:03

Try putting hand cream on before putting on washing up gloves and doing dishes. The heat of the water will help to absorb the cream.

NewBallsPlease00 · 19/01/2016 00:16

Coconut oil good for nail beds

carrie74 · 19/01/2016 12:12

Another vote for L'Occitane, it's amazing stuff. Sinks in so quickly, yet so effective (and start wearing gloves when washing up!).

CaveMum · 19/01/2016 12:28

Another vote for the Bert's Bees Hand Salve here. It smells quite menthol-y and is like a wax in the tin but as soon as you rub your fingers on it it melts. It's about £10 for a tin.

I spent several years working outdoors (with horses) and my hands still suffer now!

SmallGreenBouncyBall · 19/01/2016 12:31

double creamin works for me.
first a 'light' moisturiser (like your face cream) and when that has sunk in a richer cream (like nivea cream).
works well for my eczema on the hands.

RB68 · 19/01/2016 12:48

I don't think it matters which ones you use so long as you do and wear gloves for a bit - they soon sort themselves out and by using handcream you are effectively massaging them which is where most of the benefit comes from!!

I use a nice one from body shop that is tangerine - love it

FashionLover1 · 19/01/2016 12:53

I use E45, really good one.

ProfGrammaticus · 19/01/2016 12:55

Nothing you use will make as much difference as starting to wear gloves, tbh.

Bounced · 19/01/2016 12:57

I love all these goats milk creams - plain, strong, effective:
