chumbler · 14/01/2016 15:56

Per year? Per month? I have been through my statements and on average spending £180 a month, so around £2000 a year. Am I average in this? Dh is horrified!! Anyone else want to share their beauty £ stats!

OP posts:
Diddlydokey · 15/01/2016 15:28

Ooh, not very much.

Contacts - £216/year
Clothing - as and when but on average £500/year. I tend to get winter boots/coats as a Christmas pressie and clothes for birthday.
Skincare - very much a nivea/simple kinda girl. So £2 on a moisturiser, cleanser and facewash every other month. £12/year
Make Up - I like chanel foundation but only twice a year but everything else is maybelline/bourjois level or Christmas presents so £150/year
Hair - no dye yet as no greys - £75/year (3 haircuts)
Hair products - just part of the weekly shop with some kind of odd products for heat protection £100/year
Treatments - shellac for occasions and bikini line £150/year

Estimated total £1,203

Oly5 · 15/01/2016 16:15

We have a good disposable income but I choose what I spend it on
I'm clothes-mad so probably about £300 - £400 per month on clothes (Hobbs, White Company etc, not designer).
Less than £15 per month on make up as I don't wear it every day so it lasts ages
Have just started having highlights, so hair spend will go up from around £30 per month to about £50

Cranagh · 15/01/2016 16:38

Hair €150 a year
Skincare: I like French pharmacy brands. Maybe €20 a month
Make up: I like Lancôme and brands like that but don't buy a lot and it lasts ages. Averages about €20 per month.
Clothes: My vice. €300-400 a month.

I write down every single item of clothing that I buy and enter the figures into a spreadsheet too Blush and then in January I do a budget adding up everything that I spent on clothes, hair and makeup in the previous year – it's often quite an eye opener because I honestly don't feel like I buy many clothes but the figures tell a bit of a different story! Last year I spent £3385 on clothes which averages out at £282 a month and I purchased exactly 44 items (including a pair of prescription sunglasses and new underwear and nightwear, which I tend to buy in sales). So I don't buy loads of stuff but I do buy reasonably expensive items. I resell my old clothes/bags on ebay and last year I recouped about £1000. I spent £905 on having my hair cut, coloured and a couple of keratin treatments, and just shy of £500 on beauty products (all Caroline Hirons' fault!).

Yes, it adds up to a lot but I refuse to feel guilty - I am a single mum and earn every penny that I spend myself and I have no debt.

ProjectPerfect · 15/01/2016 18:48

When I read the first post I figured I spent about £200 a month (a ridiculous idea since that is about what I spend on my six-weekly cut and highlights)

Having started to add it all up I reckon about £1000 a month - with occasional additional splurges on big ticket items.

Kennington · 15/01/2016 18:49

Per year:
Skincare and make up - £120
Hair - £400
Clothes - £2k
But am having a no spend year on clothes as I now have the wardrobe I want and like.
I just wear a uniform of black, navy and a little cream or white.
I don't feel guilty though. But I don't particularly like seeing that written down. Hairdressers are expensive and when I travel abroad - to France I often get it cut there for less.

Madbengalmum · 15/01/2016 18:58

Clothes- £3,000
Skincare - £1,500
Hair -£50
Make up & Beauty treatments £750

My money goes on high end clothes, and face cream!

Madbengalmum · 15/01/2016 19:00

Too add clothes figure would be higher, but i do sell alot of stuff then use money to fun additional new stuff

ProjectPerfect · 15/01/2016 19:19

for those who spend £5k +, what are you buying and how often?

I'm actually on a self imposed clothes ban at the moment as I want to drop a dress size and until that happens I don't want to buy too much in a size up.

Having said that I probably buy 2/3 new bags a year - total £3k (ish)

Hair works out about £1600 a year

Botox and fillers is another £2k

Clothes vary I tend to buy a couple of decent suits and a few work dresses each year so that's £300 a time.

A couple of pairs of jeans = £500, same on a winter coat.

Underwear/bikini/gym kit all come under essentials and get me well over the £5k mark.

I wish I could be as guilt free as some previous posters. I do feel a little ashamed at the extravagance.

Soooosie · 15/01/2016 19:22

2000 a year? You must look a million dollars Grin

Sadly I'm on a budget. So hair cut three or four times a year plus £200 on clothes. Even my shoes are from the charity shop.

Lndnmummy · 15/01/2016 19:24

It is going to be more this year👍💕💕! After 4 yrs of being on matleave followed by crippling childcare costs things are finally looking up financially and I will allocate an appropriate budget to sort my wardrobe and looks out. I cant wait. Dh and I have agreed that I can spend £200.00 pcm this year as I need to get my work wardrobe sorted and some cosmetic stuff on my teeth following an accident.

I have had nearly 4yrs of spending virtually nothing and have discovered some amazing budget buys along the way. I will keep those and not spend for the sake of spending.

Lightbulbon · 15/01/2016 19:32

Hair- didn't go to the hairdresser at all in 2015 or do any home dyes so just shampoo/conditioner = £5pcm

Don't get any beauty treatments either.

Skincare/make up-I like the good brands-Estée Lauder etc so c. £200/300 over the year.

Lenses I buy as required so £60pa

Razors= £10 pa

Clothes- need new wardrobe due to size change so this has been more than usual c. £400.

I think I'm v low maintenance but those totals add up!

ZenNudist · 15/01/2016 19:43

I do a lot more home beauty now I've got an epilator, stopped spending £40-50 every 6 weeks on waxing.

My hair varies it was £40 (cut & colour) every other month but recently had to go to expensive salons (can't travel to cheap one now) so spending £80-100 on cut & colour that's up to £600 a year!

Friend does my nails for cheap / free.

Clothes I spend a fortune around October and May then not so much the rest of the time. I have lots of what I'd consider expensive stuff (hobbs, jigsaw, joules) but avoid really pricey designer stuff (matches, flannels, Selfridges harvey nics etc)

I dread to think how much it costs me but I have a good wage, paid off most of mortgage, save money and good lifestyle. I need to be well dressed for my professional job so cheap clothes not an option now I'm nearly 40 well into my thirties.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 25/01/2016 17:15

Hmm probably more than I think but not as much as I'd like.
Hair cut- 3 X a year, £30 a time. Don't have it coloured.
Clothes- 2 pregnancies/babies in 2 years, one a winter baby and one a summer baby mean I've spent a lot on maternity clothes and BF friendly clothes recently. Now I'm not BF-ing any more I'm waiting until I hit my target weight I'm not buying anything new. Id say my normal average clothing spend is about £100 a month. I usually get a good winter coat and boots for my birthday.
Skin care- got some high end skin care for Christmas this year so won't have to buy anything for a while. Normally £10 a month maybe (don't buy high end when paying for it myself)
Make up- as above. Usually get it as Christmas or birthday present and rarely buy it myself. Don't wear much so it lasts.

I actually feel really unkempt appearance wise at the moment though, mainly due to being a SAHM to 2 under 2, both horrific sleepers. Would love to take more care of my appearance but lack of time and energy is a much bigger factor than lack of money.

BeaufortBelle · 25/01/2016 17:35

Hair, cut and colour ever six weeks, about £1200

Make-up, perfume, cleanser, four or five summer pedicures £300ish

Clothes - including shoes and bags probably about £2,500 and I probably should treat myself more.

I'd say I'm pretty frugal compared to contemporaries. I'm mid 50s, work full time and make things last. I believe women should make the best of themselves albeit within a budget. Bugger the retail outlet full of stuff from three seasons ago - does nothing to inspire me at all.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/01/2016 22:00

It really varies for me. I get my hair cut religiously every six weeks at an Aveda salon, so that's £62 a pop, but I colour it myself. This month I've replaced my Estée Lauder ANR, but with a Christmas gift card, and one of my perfumes, plus a Nars lipstick. I used discount codes for the perfume on Feel Unique and the lipstick on Space NK. Other than my hair and eyebrow threading, I never have beauty treatments in a salon - I do my nails at home and don't bother with anything else.

Clothes, again, it depends. This month I bought a jumper from Whistles, jeans and a skirt from Oasis, and two jumpers from Warehouse. I had some Christmas vouchers, and some of those things were in the sales. Last month I bought a coat in the Whistles sale, but I don't think there was anything else.

I work full time and earn a decent salary, and don't have children or run a car, but I probably spend too much on myself.

Funandgamesandfun · 25/01/2016 22:07

Shellac every 3 weeks @£20 = £360
Colour & blowdry every 6 weeks @£66 = £572
Threading every 3 weeks @£4 =£52
Clothes varies but probably about £60 a month, sometimes more and rarely less so £720

A few big buys a year, this year included a couple of full price designer dresses, 1 was Victoria Beckham, the other was Christopher Kane. A couple of pairs of decent shoes for about £150 and a bag £350.

Overall approx £200 a month. Not too bad

Funandgamesandfun · 25/01/2016 22:13

Oh no, I forgot to add, lenses @44 a month
I usually buy a pair of sunglasses a year @150
Botox 3 X a year @450

Cosmetics, actually, really not a lot maybe £50 a year. It's all adding up.

Ok so about £3k a year and I bet it's actually more. I work part time and I can afford it and my DH thinks I'm fairly frugal and treats me to something I wouldn't buy myself every so often such as a north face for £200. He thinks I should spend more as I'm a bit of a bargain hunter.

ChristmasEvePJs · 25/01/2016 22:40

I am scared to add this up tbh.

Hair - cut and colour £75 every 5 weeks plus a blow dry if I'm going out (15ish a year) £18each =£1030

Nails - fingers £25 every three weeks, toes £25 every six weeks = £640
Waxing, facials, creams, skincare, shampoo, make up and hairspray/styling = £1200
Perfume = £350
Clothes =£2400-£3600

So around £5k a year all in.

BeaufortBelle · 25/01/2016 22:53

So, I spend about £4k a year, possibly a little more. That's about 10% of my net pay - the pay I work for. I don't feel one iota of guilt about spending it. Why should any woman providing essentials and family expenses are met? Thinking about it, I think my mum's right and I should spend a lot more on myself.

Savagebeauty · 25/01/2016 23:03

Hair cut and coloured every 6 weeks £700
Facial every 6 weeks £350
Eyebrows waxed every 4 weeks £130
Brazilian every 4 weeks £200
Skincare/ makeup £500
Clothes....no idea. I can go for weeks without buying anything but then may spend £500 in one go. Shoes are expensive as I am not a stock size...I pay about £150 a pair and £300 for boots.

beautyadoration · 26/01/2016 01:34

I tend to do a big splurge every 5 or so months and spend around £100-150 on makeup/skincare and in between that maybe around £40 on top up products if I need them?

I don't get my hair done that often, in the last 2 years I've spent around £150 and clothes, I do a big splurge once or twice a year £100-200 pounds with any money I have from birthdays etc.

I don't get any beauty treatments.

If I had a job I know my spend would be so much higher because I am obsessed with makeup and clothes! It makes me very happy haha.

Higge · 26/01/2016 06:53

Per year Clothes £2.5k, Hair £800, Sportswear £500, Make up/skin care £200 Dh and I set the budgets together, we set our personal budgets and we stick to them - no nasty surprises.

SparklesandBangs · 26/01/2016 07:16

I easily spend £5k a year
Hair is £100 every 6 weeks
Nails £35 every 3 weeks
Plus a clothes and shoes habit
I never look a million dollars, but I feel great which is important and I can afford it thankfully

missmartha01 · 26/01/2016 07:29

£150 every six weeks on a cut and colour. That's my main spend.

I tend to buy clothes in fits and starts as and when I need them, but I use the high street shops like Next, Mango, eBay and that sort of thing. My clothes bill isn't huge and I buy cosmetics from ranges in Boots with face cream from Aldi.

I've become very strict about having a good hair cut over the last few years though, it'd made a lot of difference to the way I look and feel.
