'invisible' foundation

I don't even know if such a thing exists, but I want to find a foundation that looks really natural.

I've tried:
LM tinted mosturiser (too dewy now as my skin has aged)
Clinique CC cream
Bourjois CC cream
bare minerals
Clarins Skin illusion
Foundation By Terry

All of the above, I can SEE sat on my skin. Some of them with actual brush lines, even after buffing and buffing with a foundation brush.

Any recommendations for what else to try for a natural look? My skin is mainly clear with some open/blocked pores on my nose, so I don't need heavy coverage.

Boots No 7 BB cream. Its invisible when you're wearing it, but you look better. If that makes sense.

I'm loving these tips guys, thank you.

I've been using Benefit primer (the pore one, I forget its name) and whilst it definitely makes pores smoother, I'm not sure it has any other benefits.

I'm going to try your advice goodness and Susan to see if it makes a difference. I'm so lazy when it comes to shopping for make up that I just get sold to without going away to look at it under natural light etc.

I second using a (damp) beauty blender or a similar kind of sponge for application. And going easy on the amount of product.

I achieve a very natural look using this method and a variety of foundations. Works for me with Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, Clinique Superbalanced, Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, Garnier BB cream, that really watery Maybelline one and several other products. I've yet to try it with a really full coverage product as I tend not to wear these. Usually have to powder a bit as the end result tends to be so radiant that it needs some tuning down.

I have shit skin by the way, so this is in no way down to my natural assets.

I have never mastered foundation, and now just focus on skin care

Still reading this thread with interest though, as bare face January (the light is so harsh) is hard to pull off when you are 44!
