Wtf are mum boots?! Just don't get it! If u like them wear them, everyone has diff tastes and opinions so if u like them then don't worry if they look like "mum boots" to the next person

HolgerDanske · 06/01/2016 22:34

I like them. Pointy toed is trendy just now and the heel is nice. Keep outfits sharp to avoid frump factor, that's all Smile

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 06/01/2016 23:00

I agree re. the styling of any boot or shoe. If the outfit is fuddy duddy then the footwear can look mumsy. If you stuck a 20 year old in those boots they would look on trend and cool. Put them on an overweight 40 year old who has teamed them with a gypsy skirt, ankle socks and a kagool you're going to look mumsy 🙊

Getit · 06/01/2016 23:02

Imo
Yes

WhataRacquet · 06/01/2016 23:08

They are just what I'm looking for, where are they from?

They look a bit like the Acne Jensen boots that are 'in' now.

Chinesealan · 06/01/2016 23:16

The heel is a bit mumsy. They're fine. Here is a mum boot.

One word that encapsulates mum boot = Footglove.

Those pointy ones are fashionable right now and look like something from Whistles.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/01/2016 23:29

Yes, very, but if you like them wear them.

leghoul · 06/01/2016 23:30

I recently bought Footglove mum boots because I can run fast in them Blush and I have NO SHAME ABOUT IT OKAY
Ones in the OP would be mum boots in my book only if worn with, maybe, some kind of blue jeans in some kind of semi bootcut fit

Finola1step · 06/01/2016 23:31

I love my mum boots. So there. Grin

RickOShay · 07/01/2016 07:32

I really like them op. In fact where are they from? Grin

JackandDiane · 07/01/2016 07:40

As the inventor of the term (a good few years ago) the odd thing is that the original foot glove black leather mid feel mum boot is now in fashion !!! So very like the op bit square toes

Those cowboy acme type ones. They're the new mum boot

FrustratedFrugal · 07/01/2016 08:30

These are Acne Jensens (very much like the original mum boots - they are back in fashion) and here's how to wear them in a current way.

I really like the boots in the OP. If they are mum boots, does it matter if they're nice?

chemenger · 07/01/2016 08:40

Where are they from OP? I was looking for exactly that style a while ago and had to settle for suede, which I don't like as much. I don't care if they are "Mum boots" (and I think the picture of the current way of wearing the Acme Jensens is hideous, presumably making me a Mum, ironically on Mumsnet, an insult!). The great thing about being oldish is dressing to please yourself (when I am old I will wear purple with a red hat, without a doubt, I have the coat already).

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 07/01/2016 11:22

my mumboots came from a small independent boutique locally, which stocks lots of different brands. Looking inside them, it says "Cara London."
I remember the young (i.e. younger than me, poss twenties) sales assistant was also wearing them but in suede. She said they were really comfortable for working on the shop floor but also in her opinion stylish.
I can't remember how much I paid but would guess around the £80 mark. Off to google to see if they are still around. I bought them maybe a year or 18 months back.

OK so they don't seem to stock them anymore - these are the closest except mine have pointier toes, zip on inside not outside, and are leather not suede.

Here's a link to another boutique I sometimes buy from. Delivery is free, if I recall correctly.

What do you think of these? (currently in stock - half price, originally £119).

Thanks for the links, I like the first one, but not the second. But the ones in the op are lovely.

The heels and soles save these from being mum boots for me
They look good with opaques and a dress or skirt as well as with skinnies

I got these as a Christmas present from DP - look good with jeggings and I don't feel mumsy in them
I'm 51 if that makes any difference

Boltonlass1972 · 07/01/2016 19:50

I'm 43 and love them! The pointed toe steers them safe and the block heel is on trend at the mo. I would say a classic shape that actually could weather most trend tides. Defo to wear with trousers or jeans.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 07/01/2016 21:09

I don't think they are Mum boots, they are very nice and I would definitely wear them!

velourvoyageur · 07/01/2016 21:44

Think you'd have to post a pic of the whole outfit! (not just because I love it when people post photos of their outfits on S&B! Wink)

I wouldn't wear them, but I am supremely fussy. And I live in desert boots most of the time. Winter concessions are Chelsea boots. Too unadventurous for anything else.

I see ''mum boots'' as a bit of a fluid concept really, changing with the time & seasons. The opposite of what's in, plus a bit orthotic-looking (tho am sure you can get nice looking orthotic shoes the exceptions that prove the rule, have been following the 'expensive' thread!). Not an actual boot that everyone can agree on. I don't think those Acne ones are mumsy!

Sent back a pair of lovely green boots from Uterqüe because they were sooo pointy. Didn't realise they were on trend. But wouldn't have kept them anyhow, they were almost a bit monstrous IRL.

I do feel bad about using 'mum' in a bad way though, like mums stop being their own people interested in their looks & just dressing for comfort....any suggestions for a rebranding of the name? (sorry Jack!) or is it too much of an MN institution

PollyPerky · 07/01/2016 22:39

wear what you like- who cares?
