Kipling - wot addle said. And he was involved with the precursor to the CWGC, and spent years trying to find his son. dh loved Kim a few years back but I couldn't get on with it.

motherinferior · 08/01/2016 08:04

Let's do a Batemans trip!

I read SV: I liked it but it is a bit of a Jolly Romp. Am obviously warped and envious though, both because it got published and because I always fancied author's husband.

hattymattie · 08/01/2016 08:09

Waah - just typed a long post and lost it - butter fingers. Anyway, the gist of it was that like Beachy it's my last day with DD1 as well before she takes the Eurostar tomorrow. I have woken her up as we are going to have a last trip to the sales before she packs. I don't know how she's going to get all her stuff back although I have pointed out that she really doesn't need three pairs of boots. She has finally got an interview for a law vacation scheme with a company she really likes as the female partners did a presentation at her college and they seem really "women friendly". She has a practice interview with the university which is a good thing as I think she is terribly green about this sort of thing. She's got a nice suit though Wink.

Auriga - sending much love and hugs - you are a star coping with everything that's going on at the moment. You are quite amazing to be holding it all together. Flowers.

Kipling - I only know The Just So Stories, If, and The Jungle Book Blush.

motherinferior · 08/01/2016 08:12

Am also loving Magi's robust response to the dame lamenting growing soooo old at 35.

Plus the fact that only women over 55 can now say drinking is good for the heart.WineWine

Blackduck · 08/01/2016 08:24

Auriga so sorry to hear about dsis.
I am heading home after a night at mils. So laundry, checking email, sorting dog and getting ds to do homework.
Bloody cold back here Smile

NUFC69 · 08/01/2016 08:25

When Kipling was mentioned I immediately thought of bags, I am afraid to say (well it is S and B). Angry

I was awake from 2.15 to after 5, then dh woke me up at 7.30 when I was in a deep sleep. We're still in bed.

Hatty, have a lovely time with DD; I was pleased to hear that she has an interview, that's great. I hope your DD gets off ok, Beachy.

I might go and look at the sales today if I can shake off DH who has said he is not going cycling.

Lalsy · 08/01/2016 08:29

Last day with dd here too - MUCH better than last year, I will really miss her. She is trying to work out what to do this summer.

Auriga, sorry, I missed that. You are indeed amazing Flowers, coping with it all. The many-headed worry hydra....

I immediately thought of bags when I saw Kipling mentioned too !

motherinferior · 08/01/2016 09:20

Hello Dreamqueen!

Cake...

bigTillyMint · 08/01/2016 09:45

I also thought of bags first! Shame on you RudyGrin

Well, after a call from my friend whose DM had popped in to my DM last night - saying she seemed very confused, I have had the GP on the phone. She turned up there, very confused and they think it's a urine infection. I have called the carers and upped the visits, but I have yet to explain that to DM who will NOT be happy! And all before 9.30am.

NUFC69 · 08/01/2016 09:55

Oh, BTM, poor mum and poor you. At least when the ABs kick in DM should return to her normal. Can you explain the extra help from carers as putting your mind at rest?

bigTillyMint · 08/01/2016 12:02

Thanks NU, I have told her that the GP said that we need to get the carers in more often to check on her. She seemed to accept that, but then later was saying stuff about not trusting the girls. She hates feeling that people think she's stupid/that she can't manage on her own.

magimedi · 08/01/2016 14:10

Auriga - so sorry to hear about your sister.

BTM - also sorry to hear about your DM.

Would love to meet you all @ Batemans - it's only about 20 miles from me.

If any of you want cheering up the yogurt pot thread in AIBU is very funny, with some great haikus.

Disclaimer - the thread is funny now (14.09) - but, like yogurt, it could turn Grin

motherinferior · 08/01/2016 14:17

Could any kindly MNers who know me on FB pop over and give their view on glasses frames I’m modelling?

Lalsy · 08/01/2016 14:19

Crepey Bateman's outing is a top idea.

Collymollypuff · 08/01/2016 14:20

Oh, ds has just re-booted my FB so I can use it....can I friend you, MI? or will you reject me, sob

motherinferior · 08/01/2016 14:57

Outing including a brisk walk and cake, obviously.

bigTillyMint · 08/01/2016 15:08

Oooh Molly, friend me!

herbaceous · 08/01/2016 16:13

I agree with the other FB opinions MI - the third ones are best.

Magi - 'my' (i.e. your) jeans have just arrived, and they are a PERFECT fit. Uncanny. I can barely feel them upon my person, such is their second-skin effect.

I know nothing of Kipling, other than his cakes are too sweet.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 08/01/2016 16:15

And meeeee Molly!

magimedi · 08/01/2016 16:15

So pleased they have found a good home, Herbs. They were just too tight on me & gave me camel toe - yuk.

Rosebag · 08/01/2016 16:21

Oh Auriga I am so sorry about your DSis Flowers but you know, once they've planned the treatment, it might help. One step at a time. xx

Blush at typo waf addle

Tilly your DM will certainly be less confused if she is treated appropriately for a UTI. An increase in carer hours sounds the way to go...more for supervision than help, I guess. It's hard when DM doesn't trust them, though.

The only mental reference I have for Kipling is that when I was doing A level English Lit, we had to decide between poetry of Kipling, Wordsworth or the much hated by school kids ... Yates... The cool crowd wanted Kipling...the staff wanted Yates and in the end we went with Wordsworth. I'd rather have a jam tart, Rudy Grin Blush, or a posh new handbag.

I too would like to come to Batemans....especially if it coincides with when I'm down at the flat... A Crepey Grand Day Out!

Me too, me too... Molly ...can you find me?

Didn't go out much today as the low tyre pressure warning light came on in the car... Instead I have made a pineapple upside down pudding and rice pilaff. Gearing up to a weekend with the final shows of the run,(sobs) and a lovely, early birthday surprise from BFF who is taking me to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake at Saddlers Wells on the Sunday matinee. I do wish DH would have taken the bait when I was heavily dropping hints not so long ago about how I'd love to see it. As far as he's concerned it's business as usual in respect of my birthday. No nice ideas as yet...sweet FA. Hmm Sad Angry

Blackduck · 08/01/2016 16:25

And me :) Molly (I'm the orange dog in sunglasses (natch) )

Rose is your b'day imminent (trying to forget own looming number...)

MI GGG is right those glasses are all too big.....

magimedi · 08/01/2016 16:25

Thin we should wait until March, at least, for Batemans. Just had a look at the website & saw the following:

"Owing to conservation cleaning, most of the house will be closed from 1 January - 27 February 2016 ".

The gardens are lovely but it is the house , in my opinion, that is so worth seeing & resonates of Kipling.

PS There is a tea room & I am pretty sure the cakes were good (it's 10 years or so since I last went there).
