In the spirit of Auriga's earlier post, I must claim credit for keeping ddog alive for another year. The rest of this household - including dd, who once wanted to be a vet - refuse to nurse him when sick, eg when his eyes are so gunked up he can't see. Angry

bigTillyMint · 04/01/2016 06:59

Just about woken up.

Auriga/others who aren't invited back, surely it must be that you are such good cooks that the invitees feel so inferior that they daren't invite you back? I think I need to get back onto inviting people round - it has somewhat fallen by the wayside. But not until after half-term because we are booked up/I am away every SaturdayShock

Stropps, I am going to try that when I get a chance - fed up of foraging for clothes. Is there a particular way of folding?

Blackduck · 04/01/2016 07:11

I am hungover from Dps rather fAbulous birthday lunch - but I'm not back to work today Grin

herbaceous · 04/01/2016 09:20

So Nervous. Again. New batch of learners, and I have to do their induction. But there's so much I don't know myself!

Had a mild revelation the other day - I don't have to know everything, I just have to know a little bit more than those I'm teaching! Not that it's much comfort today...

Good luck out there today, crepesters. Surely one of the most horrific days of the year. In the good old days, the first day back after Christmas would be just dealing with emails, chatting in the kitchen, etc, not total full-on actual work. Bah.

Auriga · 04/01/2016 09:31

BTM that's a charitable thought, but I assure you there's nothing intimidating about my cooking! It's grub, not fine dining. I do invite people who are better cooks than I am & they seem to enjoy it. I suppose if you're a bit sensitive there are lots of opportunities for feeling judged. Ah well, I'm not going to stop inviting them but I'll take a little break now Smile

motherinferior · 04/01/2016 10:30

I saw a knackered Brabantia bin in our road as I returned from Ladyjogging today. Clearly the festivities have worn a little thin in other houses too Grin

Cremo · 04/01/2016 10:40

Auriga, when I was cooking professionally, I was always so pleased and grateful for someone else to cook for me as it meant I didn't have to bother for a change.Grin
Stropps , I did roar with laughter at ' I'm just off the lifeboat" you are a scream. Best of ,for tomorrow. You'll be fabulous. You too Herbs. I have enormous faith in both of you because you are both so conscientious, and care so much. Thanks

I am in a heap. Not back in til wed, with a list of issues as as long as my arm.have been sent New Contract. Can't even bring myself to read it as I know it is jam packed with things I don't agree with.

Anyway I enjoyed War and Peace, first episode. Wow they've spent A Lot of money on it. The costuming is extraordinary. And also Deutschland 83 which as great potential ( C4).i love a Cold War suspense thriller, me.
Lots of new dramas to get your recording device set up for. Smile

NU I am so sorry about your friend. Just unimaginable for you and of course her family. Appallingly sad.i hope there is a resolution soon.SadThanks

I am slouching in my pjs, still. The weather is unspeakable so may just run the Hoover round, Internet a grocery shop, and light the fire and watch DVDs. IKEA can wait.

Cremo · 04/01/2016 10:43

PS, Dh did all the ironing yesterday except the linen tablecloth and napkins which need starching. The ironing was waist high form the ground.
Please tell me how you are all so well turned out without the aid of an iron?

Blackduck · 04/01/2016 10:53

Oh Cremo so sorry it's still shite :(.

The lifeboat comment and the knackered bin made me laugh....

Here not doing much, Dp just finished a batch of marking so might round everyone up to go out...

Rosebag · 04/01/2016 11:44

As the proud but slightly Blush user of a tumble dryer, quite a lot doesn't need ironing if folded straight from the dryer but I have to admit that I like sheets and duvet covers etc ironed. insufferable princess Otherwise it's work shirts and any smartish tops, trousers that don't go to the dry cleaners. the cleaner does it double Blush And yes, the radiators come into use when the label says do not tumble dry....my DSs insist I shrink all their t shirts in the offending machine.

auriga some people just don't invite back although I also have some who invite others and not us, and one wonders why. I don't think any of us set out to invite only so it's reciprocated. Most of us are just happy to see nice friends, wherever. But when we see others being invited back and not us.... Hmm. I probably said before, I've known my writing partner for about 12 years and I have never, ever been to their place. He often talks about it being a tip but none of that would bother me unless there's rats or something! Grin but people get funny. What can you do?

Good luck to stropps and herbs on the next day or so starting at work. You'll be better than fine. Great stuff!

cremo maybe get someone else to read the contract for you....and the tell you about it? It might not be so scary when interpreted by A N Other. Flowers

I decided to shun War and peace for Deutschland 83. Have to admit it's got me hooked. I know nothing about the Cold War Blush. What I found really interesting was the speed at which German is presumably spoken, habitually. The subtitles were disappearing almost quicker than I could read them until I got used to it!

Well Crepeys, here we are back to the grind and how. I am doing domestic catch up today. I have been to the butcher and then a Sainsbury trolley push. Washing is now up to date and the house looks a little less like an apocalypse owing to the return of my treasured wife, the cleaner. DC are both back at school grumbling and moaning as they went. I am wondering what to do with the rest of my life. Jump on a few bins maybe? Harrumph.

Rosebag · 04/01/2016 11:45

Ps I rejoined SW. It cost me feckin' £60....

motherinferior · 04/01/2016 12:06

Rose - write another play?

Rosebag · 04/01/2016 12:31

Already under way, MI... it's known as "Project 2" at the moment!!! Grin

Cremo · 04/01/2016 12:37

Have just signed back up to Pilates which cost me £110 Rose, so you have my sympathy.

I will get Employment lawyer friend to give contract the once over. But what can be done? I need a job unfortunately. There's not much else out there. Hey ho.

Collymollypuff · 04/01/2016 13:04

"The Americans" is a fab Cold War thriller series, which I recommend. KBO to all back at work. Thanks

NUFC69 · 04/01/2016 13:11

Crem, sounds like a plan regarding the contract.

Rose, I have a tumble dryer, too, but mostly use it for towels (and bedding at this time of the year). I do iron duvet covers for guest beds, but apart from that it's just the pillowcases.

A short swim and Aquafit this morning and then I spent about an hour handing boxes of Christmas stuff to DH when he put them in the loft. Just need to clean the house now.

Someone mentioned mould upthread, can't remember who. I find Blitz that Mould from Lakeland to be excellent - it's never failed me yet, and DSis has just used it on the conservatory blinds with great success.

Thank you for the kind wishes about my friend. Still no news.

CointreauVersial · 04/01/2016 13:27

NU - I do the mould blitzing (similar product I bought online following MN recommendation), but after a few months or so, back it comes....

There is a section of wall in both of the DDs' bedrooms which is only single-skinned, so it gets really cold and damp. Nowt I can do, really, apart from wipe it away.

Well, I'm back at the coalface. We were all surprisingly on the ball this morning, and made it to school/work on time. My enormous to-do list, prepared just before the break, was of course still waiting for me, and it has got steadily bigger as the day has worn on. We did something fundamental to one of our IT servers over the break, so people are queuing at my desk because they can't get into this, that or the other. Sigh.

bigTillyMint · 04/01/2016 15:54

Well, I am feeling refreshed after our day of Mindfulness - I kept dozing offBlush You are supposed to be focusing on your bodily sensations, but my mind kept zoning out. I am very good at the breathing though!
Back to reality proper tomorrow.

I returned to find the house empty - looks like DD might have gone to the extra study period before coachingShock DS has just returned with 2 mates. He tells me he did some revision earlierHmm

BeachysFlipFlops · 04/01/2016 17:29

I'm not enjoying this back to work malarkey. I'm uncomfortable, cold, bored and hungry....

Sounds like I'm down the pits, not in an overly air conditioned office looking over the bright lights of London Grin

wordassociationfootball · 04/01/2016 17:46

Crepeys... it's all gloom and mould here. Let's look after ourselves in and out there.

bigTillyMint · 04/01/2016 17:55

All gloom and mouldGrin

NUFC69 · 04/01/2016 18:40

WAF, spot on. I think that should be my new mantra: gloom and mould. Yep, apt, I think. The builders have knocked down DS's garage and conservatory - the weather really has been atrocious. I can hear the rain drumming on my conservatory roof atm, we'll be floating away soon.

Back to the normal slog tomorrow as DGS1 restarts school; I think we will need to set the alarm as we have been sleeping in every morning. (And in my case nodding off in the afternoon, I think I would be a good candidate for BTM 's mindfulness).

How is your DM doing, MI, (and DSis)? And all other elderly/ailing parents, while I think about it?

motherinferior · 04/01/2016 18:41

I must go and cook noodles, and then bash the keys some more. Was slightly horrified by this morning's to-do list, as it included two unscheduled features!

Collymollypuff · 04/01/2016 19:38

I'm allergic to mould. And to gloom. Although I think dh is addicted to both.

Blackduck · 04/01/2016 19:39

I have decided I will need to come south monthly ... I will need crepey support....
