Just that really. Lips are horrible and dry and I need a decent lip balm. Preferably one that I don't have to apply with my finger as I can't always guarantee that my hands are suitably clean (I work with lots of chemicals!) thanks Smile

I have just bought body shop hemp lipsalve as I love their hand cream.
But having seen the tips about lansinoh I shall try that at night, I don't think there will be any more newborns causing me to need it for its intended use!

GreenPotato · 06/12/2015 22:16

I love lip balm and can't stop buying them, my faves are:
Burts bees (including the tinted ones - lovely)
Maybelline Baby Lips
Body Shop (the coloured ones in a tube, but the colour is very sheer)
Original vaseline if lips are flaky - smooths them overnight
And always Blistex if they are actually sore.

ClaireFraser · 06/12/2015 22:39

Burts bees yellow tube/tin. I've used it for about 10years and can't rate it enough. If your lips are really dry then rub gently with damp washcloth/towel, apply moisturiser and rub in, then burts bees over the top. Amazing stuff at rehydrating. Petrolatum based lip balms actually dry your lips out and then you have to use more and more and they don't help lips to properly rehydrate as they can't penetrate skin, so just sit on top in a waxy coating stopping any moisture being absorbed.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 06/12/2015 22:50

I know you said no to applying with fingers, but I haven't found anything to beat 8 Hour Cream, and I do find the actual cream much better than the lipbalm, sorry!

Jelly101 · 06/12/2015 22:51

Lush do a brilliant lipscrub! Worked wonders for me, and there's different flavoursSmile

trixymalixy · 06/12/2015 22:52

Blistex

Talisin · 06/12/2015 23:01

Blistex Cherry Berry genuinely never found anything better.

PuppyMouse · 06/12/2015 23:05

Another vote for plain ol' Carmex in the yellow tube. I smear a bit on morning and night after brushing teeth and I never get sore lips.

Sgtmajormummy · 06/12/2015 23:15

Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm in a pot, available from M&S last time I checked.

I suffer from coldsores and used to suffer from chapped lips that I would nibble and worry until they bled, even with ordinary chapstick. I've been using this twice a day for 2 years and my lips feel "normal" most of the time, take colour well and heal up quickly after coldsore outbreaks which are down to about every four months.

It's quite expensive (about £8 a pot which lasts me a year) but I wouldn't like to be without it.

MamaLazarou · 06/12/2015 23:21

As others have said, lanolin. You don't have to buy a tube of Lansinoh, though, just buy little tubes of Lanolips (on special offer in Waitrose at the moment).

Wagglebees · 07/12/2015 04:05

Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream is the best stuff in the world for chapped, cracked lips.

I tried every thing going before the Lansinoh. I even went to the doctors to have vitamin deficiency tests, my lips were so cracked. Used it twice and lips healed up.

That was about 5 years ago. Applied it every night ever since and never had even slightly chapped lips. Not a single dry flake. It's miracle level stuff.

superbfairywren · 07/12/2015 07:35

Palmers cocoa butter lip balm is my favourite, am a new convert!

FankEweVeryMuch · 07/12/2015 09:54

Nuxe balm de mile here too. I used it religiously until I ran out just after my baby was born 9 weeks ago and my lips are dreadful, it had been part of my nighttime routine for 2 years previously and my chapped lips had disappeared. I'm buying more today. Lansinoh is good but my chapped lips still return during the day.

MrsMarigold · 07/12/2015 10:00

Lanisoh is good so is Lavera

alwaystimeforcoffee · 07/12/2015 13:26

I've always found you can't go wrong with Vaseline! :)

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal · 07/12/2015 13:38

Carmex is the only one that does anything for me. All the others seem totally useless.

You can get carmex in a little pot, a stick, or a tube.

I think the pot is the best, followed by the tube, and the stick is not that great.

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2015 15:10

I have been reading this thread with interest as I am having real prblems with dry lips this year for some reason (aging maybe?). Vaseline and chapstick seem to worsen things overall. I am using Burts Bee sticks and balm but that doesn't seem to be helping either and I feel the need to reapply every hour. I am going to try the balm de Mile despite it being rather dear, and also Melrose, and see what works.

squoosh · 07/12/2015 15:21

I think when it comes to lip balm trial and error is the only way to go. I've tried and hated lots of the ones mentioned on this thread.

Avoid anything with petroleum jelly.

squoosh · 07/12/2015 15:23

Reve de Miel in the jar is the one I use. It costs about a tenner but lasts for an age.

AskingForAPal · 07/12/2015 16:08

It's not a stick but any of the Lush beeswax-based ones last for ages so you shouldn't need to keep applying it anyway. The beeswax effectively stops it slipping straight off in the way vaseline etc does.

Another tip - put a thick layer of it on at night if you have really dry lips, they will feel gorgeous by the morning.

GiraffeHouse · 07/12/2015 16:15

Vaseline. Tried loads and everything else is rubbish for me. Cheap and lasts ages.

bigfatfeet · 07/12/2015 16:40

I like the EOS egg-shaped ones (especially the blueberry), but that is mainly because they're gimmicky and I am a marketing person's dream. I get anyone going to the US to buy them for me as they're much cheaper there.

aniceearlynight · 07/12/2015 19:20

Another vote for Nuxe Reve de Miel - smells lovely and works wonders but it is in a pot. I also like 8 Hour Cream in the tube.

Lilipot15 · 07/12/2015 19:37

My lips feel much better today after using lansinoh last night! I didn't need it much with this baby so now I feel the cost of it is justified!!

FankEweVeryMuch · 07/12/2015 20:43

When I was buying the Nuxe stuff today they had a stick too, not sure if that is as good as the pot but might be worth a try if you prefer a stick.....
