i tried this on, it was nice. In my head I thought, 'hmmm maybe £80"

as the crackle of acrylic ran through my ears i was OH MY GOD this is £120!

Walked into a store yesterday and was impressed with the quality and style of a lot of stuff (as in, this is nice, and this, and this... oh everything looks good but SO expensive).

Agree they are going the Whistles way, which is more high fashion and sadly, overpriced for me.

Did a double take though when I looked at the ultra luxury range they had, things were shocking prices like 200+ quid. Shock

BrendaandEddie · 25/11/2015 15:07

I got the dark green one from marks.

At least the Arran one is wool

Are you still wearing the poncho?

I have liked quite a lot in the white co this winter - nicer fabrics too.

Twinklestein · 25/11/2015 15:16

Jigsaw used to be fashionable - I used to wear it in the 80s and 90s.

It was always a bit expensive but it had gorgeous prints, gorgeous jumpers, great stretch trousers.

Then it went downhill into Boden territory with ghastly frumpy sludgy colours and dowdy prints.

Terrible shame. I really miss old Jigsaw and old Whistles before it went weirdly 80s and poor quality.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/11/2015 15:17

I still think jigsaw has some nice bits. Whistles on the other hand is a pile of polyester rubbish.

P1nkP0ppy · 25/11/2015 15:18

The boss lives in a huge mansion with an organic farm so needs loads of £££?

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/11/2015 15:21

I think he's pretty sorted financially - he is very local to me

opioneers · 25/11/2015 15:25

I did buy this jacket, because I've been after something this length and this casual for years:

Like the poncho from car to classroom

Where the hell did the cashmere jumpers on my M&S link go? They were £37.50 in loads of colours earlier today - I had six in my basket!

BelaLug0si · 25/11/2015 18:25

This is why I buy from Ebay, but can be a bit of a gamble. The older Jigsaw from over 10 years ago does keep well so source it from there. I also buy Joseph wool jumpers and dresses from ebay, often under £20 and good quality pure wool.

Opioneers that jacket reminded me of this Helmut Lang jersey jacket I bought last year. It's been worn regularly and staying in good nick.

BrendaandEddie · 25/11/2015 18:42

I got a zip jacket like that from Zara. Half the price.

I don't know OP, but I was seriously unimpressed when I went in recently.

I used to buy their indestructible wool suits for work, but the stuff now doesn't seem to have nearly the quality of materials / finishing that it had 10 years ago.

I also couldn't get my head around their pricing policy tbh. They wanted £120 for a plain, fine merino jumper (a basic really). That's a Hugo Boss price, but their suits were quite a bit cheaper at the £350-350 mark and their coats on the cheap side comparatively). I mean, if it's all the same brand / quality, I would not a lined, knee length wool coat = 2 basic jumpers.

Preminstreltension · 25/11/2015 18:56

I actually like a bit of acrylic in knitwear otherwise it goes bobbly really early. I totally overspent on two jigsaw jumpers earlier this year - worn twice and they look like shit. Bobbly.

Agree with the basic premise of the OP though. It's very ordinary and overpriced.

Onlyconnect · 25/11/2015 19:02

Where do you Jigsaw haters go for good quality clothing in nice fabrics? I think part of the reason I'm so fond of Jigsaw is that there's nowhere else I much like. Recently I saw a Zara dress in a Sunday magazine. It looked great so I ordered it but when it arrived the fabric was so flimsy I sent it back without trying it on.

WowOoo · 25/11/2015 19:13

They get away with it because people buy it. Pre kids, I splashed out on this kind of stuff because I thought it was better quality but I bought far fewer items.

I remember being able to afford their nice designs and being able to look after it.

Two kids down the line and my stressed, rushed husband puts a lovely old Jigsaw jumper in a 30 wash (ruined); my son pulls a fine knit top after 3 wears and the kids get felt tip that won't wash out on a silky work blouse.

Argh! I live and learn. And yearn to be rich..

Eachleechsparethumb · 25/11/2015 19:20

Uniqlo merino washes like a dream

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2015 19:38

Jigsaw stupidly overpriced. I like the occasional thing in there but find it out of my price range mostly, even in the sales.

Detest acrylic and it is so hard to find decent knitwear nowadays.

Bargain but round neck and they are sometimes too short I've also bought a couple of extra small men's v necks, because the fabric for men's stuff is often better - cotton or cotton/wool mix instead of polyester, viscose and acrylic.

Mrsmaudwatts · 25/11/2015 19:45

Bizarrely next have a nice wool one kind of similar. It's quite a fine knit. I'll see if I can find the link

Mrsmaudwatts · 25/11/2015 19:48

Not perfect, 55% merino, the rest visvouse but it feels nice and only £25

PollyPerky · 25/11/2015 19:58

I like some Jigsaw coats. I also have several items bought in the sale with at least 40% off and some 70% off. This includes knitwear and trousers. I tend to go in and try on then wait for their sales. If I love something I will buy it- bought a merino wool shift dress for £90 odd but ordered from J lewis so can still return it (unworn) if I change my mind or it's in the sale. I don't mind paying that for a dress I'd get wear out of because it's not much more than £45 quid for a skirt plus a cardi or jumper.

I do agree that Jigsaw has lost its quirky side and the dresses on the whole are dowdy and too long for me. If they ever did petite sizes it would be great. About 20 years ago I used to love everything in the shop as it had a slightly boho, bohemian feel - now it's just boring.

BuggersMuddle · 25/11/2015 20:01

Onlyconnect I buy knitwear from Hobbs and Jaeger primarily. The purchases have lasted well.

I have had others (supermarket cashmere, M&S, John Lewis) and IMO they don't do as well.

I do feel limited at the moment to be honest. I'm short so can't wear long drapey things and I feel there's not much in the shops for me in terms of nice tops / jumpers for winter. I can get no end of woolly skirts, jeans, whatever, but I am really struggling with tops.

BrendaandEddie · 25/11/2015 20:30

gap merino crew. Nice in a berry colour.

Preminstreltension · 25/11/2015 22:02

I like Cos for knitwear if you can sort through the weird shapes

Also Hobbs and Jaeger although Jaeger is not always as good quality as it should be given the price glares at bobbly black jumper
