I'd never heard the term "mum" boots till I came on MN
I don't do heels because I'm always walking, so, I guess everything I like would be called that.

I have heard of mum jeans before.

I wish they'd give things names that actually made sense, but presumably mum boots is an MN thing and not likely to appear in a Macklemore lyric?

lavendersun · 23/11/2015 18:36

Grin, have you tried boots for 'girls' Lorelei?

I bought these this week for DD (third year running, they are fab, she just keeps growing).

I wonder if boots made for young things would be shorter in the leg ... no idea, just a thought.

They come in a tall style and a normal style.

lavender - thanks, that is probably worth doing! I didn't replace knee boots after the Duo ones "broke" (at the heel so to speak) as they are so hard for me to find....good idea, thanks.

Thingsthatmakeugoummmm · 23/11/2015 21:48

I think they are fab! I'm very tempted! However, I have around thirty pairs of boots. Go for it. U like them and that's what matters. I hate the term mum boots.

Bunbaker · 23/11/2015 22:04

Same here lorelei9. The fashion police on here love to sneer at other peoples clothes and footwear choices.

I wear what suits my shape and lifestyle regardless of whether it is the height of fashion or not.

SwedishEdith · 23/11/2015 22:21

They're very useful looking boots OP.

I do wish websites would show people wearing the boots so you can judge how high they are.

FrancesOldhamKelsey · 23/11/2015 22:45

To be fair, if you ask on S&B what the posters think of an item of clothing you will get it judged (normally politely) on its fashionability and flatteringness (not an actual word). That's kind of the deal. Nobody spontaneously rugby tackled the OP on the school run and said "Oi! You in the frumpy boots! You look awful!"

But actually if you come in and specifically say "I wear whatever I like, and don't give a monkeys about what's fashionable or flattering but I've set my heart on a lime green velvet tutu, please can you help me find one?" then the lovely S&Bistas will happily set to work on your challenge with only the bare minimum of raised eyebrows.

ecuse · 23/11/2015 23:19

Arf at Frances' rugby tackle image.

purrito · 24/11/2015 02:01

Riding boots are a classic. If they end up looking "mumsy" would surely depend on the rest of the outfit?! Really don't understand the hate they get on MN. But then I've seen absolutely hideous shoes being called "fun" and "edgy" on other threads, so I really shouldn't be surprised....

mathanxiety · 24/11/2015 02:20

I think the riding boots are a bit dressy for running around after kids. The Timberland ones would be more of a running around look to me.

I would like the riding boots if they had a few funky details to them some heavy duty buckles and extra straps, a few studs, a chunkier sole but then they wouldn't be classic riding boots. I guess riding boots are not really my style Smile

GreenHamNoeggs · 24/11/2015 07:11

Whore boots for £40

Flowers
lavendersun · 24/11/2015 07:23

Broken ankles at best green, legs and I suppose neck at worst.

Can you imagine doing the school run in those Grin.

Even driving the car, I reckon they could be deadly, the plastic would melt onto my heated seat leaving me incapacitated by fumes and unable to use my feet on the pedals.

GreenHamNoeggs · 24/11/2015 07:35

Perhaps, Lavender.

Still, better than the ignominy of looking like a mother, I am sure you agree.

lavendersun · 24/11/2015 07:42

Not for me green, comfortable mum boots all the way .... and I still manage to look a bit quirky Grin.

Higge · 24/11/2015 07:55

Whore is a horrible word....why do you feel the need to use it?

GreenHamNoeggs · 24/11/2015 07:59

Ugh. Such pride in one's fecundity, Lavender!

Ugh!

lorelei9 · 24/11/2015 08:47

I don't have kids
I don't want my boots called mum boots
Wouldn't use the other term either
The on,y heel totterer I know has 3 kids, no idea where this nonsense comes from. Like granny knickers...

lavendersun · 24/11/2015 09:23

Don't worry lorelei - in the real world these boots are called practical amongst other things. Lots of things happen 'only on mumsnet'. I can't remember hearing 'the other word' in real life either tbh.

Green, my twat radar is twitching, maybe because I wasn't terribly proud of my ability to reproduce when I had multiple miscarriages, but yes, very proud that I achieved it in the end (which has absolutely nothing to do with my style choices).

....back to the boots.

ChinUpChestOut · 24/11/2015 09:35

At the risk of a) hijacking the thread or b) killing it stone dead, but when people were looking, I don't suppose anyone saw any boots like the OP's, but in brown suede? Have been looking for some for ages, but ankle boots seem to have taken over the world and I want knee high boots.

GreenHamNoeggs · 24/11/2015 09:50

It was an attempt at humour, Lavender. Shaming us all for wishing to look like mothers, when clearly that is the very abyss of style - at least according to this forum.

Apologies for any offence caused. I thought we were sharing the same joke. Flowers

I like the original boots OP. Wore a very similar pair myself only yesterday. Warm and comfortable, and worth the risk of being labelled a female parent.

Hold fire, there's really no need for the big guns here.

Mamia15 · 24/11/2015 10:03

Op, I like them - its a lovely brown and also I like how the zip isn't shiny or cheap looking. Riding boots may not be very fashionable but these are classic and will look still good in years to come.

m0therofdragons · 24/11/2015 11:45

I like those boots lavender.

I'm going to try them in today and see how they look around my ankles - I hate the ones that ruck up but I don't think these will.
I live in the west country so I'm not sure riding boots will ever go out of fashion here - plus I'm not really worried about being "in".

m0therofdragons · 24/11/2015 11:52

Haha so now I'm not allowed to use the word whore - perhaps you'd be better suited to netmums.
Green now those boots certainly would turn heads on the playground - if I managed to actually walk that far!
