I don't believe mn bra guide

I did the measurement and measure 28 around the back and 31 chest, does that mean I should be a 28c?

Just doesn't seem possible for the cup size my boobs are tiny!
What am I doing wrong here?

Crankycunt · 03/11/2015 22:09

Yes it does. I went from a 40c to 36e and my boobs are by no means mahoosive.

Try a few on in that size, see how they feel/look.

HookedOnHooking · 03/11/2015 22:11

Doesn't work for me at all. I've tried many 34 Es and none of them fit anywhere near as well as a 36 c.

flightywoman · 03/11/2015 22:12

It's about the ratio - a 28c won't be the same cup size as a 38c, but the proportion of cup to band will be the same ratio.

HoopsAlot · 03/11/2015 22:14

Il give it a go although i have a c cup bra and it doesn't fit boob but could be to do with the back size being too big by about 6 in?

Id love to be a C as there isnt much choice for a 28B! Currently just kicking about in triangle bras but they don't 100% fit right.

HoopsAlot · 03/11/2015 22:16

flighty I see your point I will Definetly give 28c a go then. I hat bra shopping and would rather be able to use mn guide than trusting someone in a shop.

Have a look at this link which shows women in bras which are correctly sizes. As you can see a 28C is far from huge.

Unfortunately it's also a bugger of a size to find, but John Lewis do some (but 28C in to the search box) as do mimi holliday and M&S.

HoopsAlot · 03/11/2015 22:57

Thank you statistically I did have a quick look and you are right there isn't much option for 28c either! Thank you for the link I will check it out.

HoopsAlot · 03/11/2015 23:09

I might weep there is so little options out there for my size and all very basic bras.
I don't mind having small boobs but I want pretty/flattering bras.Confused

OP posts:
Toffeelatteplease · 03/11/2015 23:16

Never found it worked for me. Nor sure I would want it to either. I like being able to walk into primark and buy pretty, fantastically comfortable bras for £5 or less

ouryve · 03/11/2015 23:21

Even if you try a 30B, your bra will be a better fit than the 34AA it sounds like you're wearing!

I'm a very chubby size 14 and my band size is only 32.My best underwired bras are 32GG, though I like a 34F for a soft cup bra.

PrimalLass · 04/11/2015 08:35

I went from 38b to 34d and look a million times better. By measurements I should be a 32 but that was far too tight.

beckworth · 04/11/2015 08:41

Try going up a back size and down a cup size, so 30b. I'm a 28 back and find some 30's come up small enough for me. I pretty much had to do this with nursing bras, they are like
hens' teeth in anything under a 30. I also recommend just trying a whole bunch either side - my boobs are currently shrinking due to reduced breastfeeding, and I'm finding that some of my bras still fit and others are too big even though they are the 'same size'.

Howdidthathappen1 · 04/11/2015 08:43

Sorry to but in but I have the same issues believing the mn sizing. My boobs have nothing in them so when I lean foward it's like golf balls in socks effect (attractive I know). I measure a d cup then but coz the boobs are empty the cups just gape and hardly touch me (back 34). Going down to 32 back leaves red marks as its so tight.

HeyMacWey · 04/11/2015 08:48

Avoid full cup styles how
A balcony style will help.

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/11/2015 08:50

Hear what you're saying, however nobody but you knows what the bra looks like. Whereas, since being 'interventioned', I look better to the outside world - with boobs up where they should be, and a far more defined waist.

To me, this is the better outcome. And you can tell people in the old spare-inches-around-the-back sizing at 10 paces, because their boobs inevitably droop down. They don't seemingly defy gravity, which mine now do.

HoopsAlot · 04/11/2015 09:06

howdid I can relate to golf ball in a sock Confused they only look good enough upright. I will follow all your advice and try a few ranges in sizes recommended and and will try make time for some bra shopping this week I think!

OP posts:
ItGoesWithoutSaying · 04/11/2015 09:12

I've used the MN bra intervention and had mixed results. I was always in a 34A and did the measurements. I was 31.5" and 34" - that would be a 32B, right?

Tried a few and, too be honest, there's not a lot of difference with the 34As. One was uncomfortably tight and had to go back. Currently wearing both. And, as said above, happy I can buy them for a few quid in Primark or Asda.

A friend of mine who is something like a 28HH (dunno exactly) and has to spend £££s in Rigby and Peller can't believe I'm a size 8/10 with a 32/34 back whereas she's a 12/14.

WhataRacquet · 04/11/2015 09:27

Doesn't work for me either. The smaller band size makes me feel like I'm being crushed around the ribs. I'd rather wear the "wrong" size and be comfortable.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/11/2015 13:40

The thing is that for smaller breasts, which weigh less, then the impact of wearing a too big band will be far less significant. If you have larger, heavier breasts then yes the right band size may take a bit of getting used to but will be far better in terms of providing support. If I wear too big a band then it feels looser around the band, but I end up getting back and neck pain because of the weight of my breasts.

flightywoman · 04/11/2015 16:00

The other thing to consider is manufacturing - we all know that a 12 in M&S is not necessarily the same as a 12 from Dotty P's or Boden or wherever.

There are huge variations between shops, styles in the same shop and even individual items of the same style and you're not ever going to convince me that the lack of consistency in sizing, cutting and stitching magically rectifies itself to complete uniformity across all shops and all styles just because you're talking about a bra instead of a pair of jeans.

Try the size you appear to be by measurement and try other sister-sizes. Go up a back size and down a cup size - not forgetting that D to E is two sizes, the progression is D-DD-E - try other cup sizes, in other styles.

But above all, be supported and be comfortable. It is possible, I PROMISE!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/11/2015 16:41

Absolutely, the size given is only a starting point (which we always emphasize but seems to get rather lost).

HoopsAlot · 14/11/2015 17:47

So I went to marks and Spencer today and spent a good hour or so trying several on different bras, from 30/32b to 30 and 32c
There was one 30c that fitted me comfortably and suited my Shape out of about 10 bras.30b were trying to cut me off at the chest.
One 32c plunge push up fitted but looked unatural like trying to turn my boobs into a super pert shelf.

I am knackered but after today I am confident in my own judgement at least.

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 14/11/2015 18:13

See I get the cup affects the band and hence the trying on backwards to check band size
But I don't get how people who are (I'm using a random example) say a size 10 and saying a 32 band is too tight. How does that work when I'm a good 16 on top (ok maybe a 14 if you knock my boobs off) and wearing a 32?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/11/2015 18:29

M&S sizing is very weird, just fyi - so if you are looking to order online from other companies then bear this in mind. They tend to run small in the band at the smaller end of the scale, we've got a few ladies who really need a 26 who wear M&S 28s for that reason.

Hollinhurst, it's a mixture of things. 10s who need a 34 are relatively rare but they could be just quite 'triangular' with wider shoulders and a relatively small cup so most of their chest measurement is band rather than bust, some people have ribcages which flare out which can make tight bras feel less comfortable, if the cup's too small it can make it feel too small, variance in brands (M&S as above being stingy) and there's also the factor of not knowing how a bra should feel. If you've been fitted by somewhere that does old style measuring then it's fairly easy to end up 3 band sizes up from where you need to be, so compared to that a fitting bra does feel really tight.

TaliZorah · 14/11/2015 18:32

It works really well, it's just people are used to thinking anything above a D Is massive, so the cups are skewed.
