Any work-do appropriate cocktail dresses out there (without bloody lace inserts or sleeves)

Had hoped the lace thing would have died by this year, apparently not.

Looking for a nice dress, not short (I'm 5'9") with sleeves. I did well with an Other Stories dress last year.

Anyone else on the hunt for similar, can we please share finds?

I like the sequin one brenda

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2015 20:01

Yikes to the red bling and the first M&S sequin one. Sorry but I think they are bloody horrible.

If you really want to go down the sequin route, maybe a sequin cami with a tux-esque jacket and either skirt or skinny trousers?

MrsBertMacklin · 09/11/2015 21:45

Without the backless aspect, this would have been perfect. So much stuff on ASOS that would have been nice except for being too short / too sheer/ too exposing on the back/chest.

Lesson learned, get to the gym in time for Christmas next year, just going to have to wear a sack.

Tons of sequins sparkly lovely skirts around. M and S has a few decent ones and h&m.

AnyoneButAndre · 10/11/2015 07:34

This M&S one also quite tempting. Not hopelessly low in the back.

AnyoneButAndre · 10/11/2015 07:41

I fancy that Asos backless number, but not sure about it in my 40s. What do you reckon? Young woman's game?

BrendaandEddie · 10/11/2015 07:47

I note marks at least have more sleeves in

Like the sequin cami idea with s soft jacket

MrsBertMacklin · 10/11/2015 10:49

I think backless ASOS fine if you don't have back flab Sad

They're a bit .... Amish

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/11/2015 17:44

Quite like the lace but not lacy and the metallic skirted one. Like the back of that cowl back M&S one, but not the sequins.

Apologies for a Per Una link but I do like the shape of this. Would need to see the fabric etc though.

no to floral prom - too wedding

MrsBertMacklin · 10/11/2015 18:03

I'm steering away from anything above mid-thigh or with a prom feel, I think cocktail will just about skim through the black tie code, but a prom dress or anything more 'night on the tiles' is not going to cut it.

My eyes are suffering from dress overload, but thanks for all the links, hope anyone else on the hunt finds them useful.

I like the marks black velvet sparkly one!

FauxFox · 11/11/2015 10:15

Can you just wear the lovely green one from last year? It's quite classic so very few people will probably realise?

MrsBertMacklin · 11/11/2015 17:46

I wish, but I sold it. Going back in for a purchase tonight

tethersend · 11/11/2015 22:11

tethersend · 11/11/2015 22:20

FauxFox · 12/11/2015 10:50

If you are size 10 this red other stories one looks a bit similar to last years top half shape, straighter skirt though.
