not at all.
theres a thing though - should bloggers be aspirational? Or realistic? or pretend to buy cheap stuff like DMBL does

I think they should be honest. Once they stop that, I'm not interested. I also wish they'd say, 'Here I am wearing X again' and show things worn in different ways etc. It would be far more useful than doing what some of them do, which is either wear it once (probably just for a picture?) and then it's never seen again, or wear it every day for a month and then it's never seen again. Either way is boring and of little use to readers.

lurkingabit · 25/10/2015 15:09

Agree about the honesty. I Lose interest when I realise there isn't a hope in hell they would wear what they are recommending.

I do get that some make a living from blogging and depend on advertorial posts but be honest about it, call it an advertorial. In fairness some are quite clear about that. But others are a bit cloak and dagger about it. Per Una cardis and the like.

But for the most part blogging isn't much of a personal diary anymore

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2015 15:24

I wish they'd just be honest. I mean some bloggers have a £££ budget which is fine and great but don't try and flog us m&s acrylic when you're wearing cashmere.

And stop revealing so much about your children - think of their privacy.

I do like Poppy's attitude though - it is after all just clothes.

Nothing, not my place to say. Very few people can accept a negative remark, plus I don't know that person, maybe they are going through a rough time or have self esteem issues, so saying "sorry but that coat is hideous on you" is just wrong,

I really like the chloe Susanna, and I have tried them myself,a couple of years ago, when they were not an eye watering £800 a pair, but I found them too blingy and settled down with a more subtle marant ones, but I really still admire them,

I think she is wearing them all wrong, the leather leggings with these boots is a bit of an overkill, maybe she should wear them with other outfits,

I only check her blog when it gets mentioned on MN, she has great legs and seems really tall, she really looks good in those over the knee suede boots with jeans, oversized sweater and scarf, and again with the black SW boots and black dress, so maybe these kind of looks work best for her, but somehow the jackets she wears don't do her any favours,
Not everything looks good on everyone, and sometimes its best to stick to what works for you,

SuperFlyHigh · 25/10/2015 16:59

Poppy looks bloody awful in the vast majority of what she wears (apart from the odd combo (a long length jumper and striped scarf plus hair flicked to side and lighter) is far better on her and the dress and boots pic below it. In fact longer line stuff suits her way better. Otherwise she looks like your everyday soccer mom.

And the way she is obviously ingratiating herself with the other 'moms' stateside.... Excuse me while I go puke. A few American moms I know (in USA of course) would either avoid her or fawn over her for her shopping choices.

Nettletheelf · 25/10/2015 17:10

I am proud to say that I stopped somebody from buying a hideous wedding dress.

I was trying on frocks before my wedding (I'm the independent type, so didn't take anybody with me). Another girl was there trying on solo. She was tiny (5 feet tops, I'd say) and was in a dress with a massive froofy skirt and train that made her look as if her legs had been amputated at the knees.

The assistants in this shop were very pushy (I am pleased that it has now shut down) and one of them was telling the girl that she looked fahbulous darling etc. and should put a deposit down now. The girl was agreeing.

I could not allow that to happen to another woman so when the assistant went off to get a veil or something I said, "don't buy that dress. You'd look lovely in something different, just not that dress".

When the assistant came back the girl said that she'd changed her mind. The assistant must have guessed that it was my doing, because she gave me daggers. I didn't buy a dress from them, and I maintain that I did the right thing by intervening in the ill-advised dress purchase!

polyhymnia · 25/10/2015 17:26

Had never heard of Poppy but had to check her out. Thought the boots were horrendously blingy. Overall torn by admiration for her blogging like this when she's a pretty large and ordinary looking woman - all credit to her for that - and being disappointed at the lack of style or interest of her outfits, even though they include some £££ elements.

bigbuttons · 25/10/2015 17:32

Oh dear, why did I have to look up Poppy's style?

BrendaandEddie · 25/10/2015 17:39

i like poppy in more tailored straight clothes, not the drapey unflattering dresses, the punky looks or the HIDEOUS knee length glad sandals, Or boyf jeans

Just less try hard suits her. Love those sunglasses

when i shop with dd its an instant answer when the changing room curtain goes back .....straight ..'nope' usually

Fuzzballs · 25/10/2015 18:14

I think Poppy's problem is that she buys EVERY fashion that comes round regardless of whether it looks good or not

faustina · 25/10/2015 18:32

I would be thrilled if someone pointed out (tactfully) that I looked shit in something and I think it's a shame no-one seems to have bothered to do that on some blogs. It doesn't have to be bitchy. Eg you know that jacket would look so flattering for your shape if you just bought a bigger size - that kind of thing. Plenty of people comment but it's always along the lines of omg you're amazing. i think they are the unkind ones

73dexter · 25/10/2015 18:44

I have a fabulous friend who buys clothes in the smallest size she can squeeze into - her shirts are bursting at the bust and jeans must cut off her circulation. She is probably a size 12 but will buy a size 10 or even an 8 in a looser style. I did once try suggesting that a size bigger might look better but was shot down instantly! I don't say anything now if I go clothes shopping with her. 'Buy clothes for the size you are not for the size you wish you were' was thought of with her in mind!

AnyoneButAndre · 25/10/2015 18:54

Yes I have a normally lovely friend who always complains that she's soooo fat and I'm soooo skinny. She's not fat, and I'm not skinny, but I spend a lot of time in changing rooms making sure that things I'm thinking of buying fit properly and if necessary getting stuff in a size larger and having it altered, whereas she "hates shopping" (she has plenty of opportunity to do so but just dislikes it) and buys everything online half a size too small.

whirlybird42 · 25/10/2015 20:33

Poppy needs some help with jeans. For all her shopping, she doesn't appear to own a single pair that fit her.

BrendaandEddie · 25/10/2015 20:35

and ones without holes that look a bit try hard

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/10/2015 20:40

Women over a certain age in ripped jeans look a bit tragic, imvho.

Well, just looked her up. I suppose it's good that bigger women can get some ideas. Her boobs are the biggest part of her. Rigby and peller and forget the stirrupy boots.

AnyoneButAndre · 26/10/2015 07:34

Finally cracked and read Poppy. It's really not a great look is it. Nothing that would get you kicked out of Waitrose on a Saturday morning, but certainly not a look that you'd put in a "hey look at my style" blog. Going back to the Boot Porn post she's wearing some perfectly nice outfits so she's clearly not incapable of looking good, just got a blind spot about jeans.

GreenHamNoeggs · 26/10/2015 07:42

What Larastheme said.

I'd also remind myself that the other person probably feels the same about what I am wearing Wink

polyhymnia · 26/10/2015 09:55

Agree with anyone. Her clothes etc are nothing special except that she spends a lot on some items. Her hair is OK but no more. One thing that does intrigue me as a large woman is how she manages to find clothes to fit in Zara!
