FrustratedFrugal · 24/10/2015 19:05

My browser is pushing me the hideous M&S cardi in pop up ads

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2015 19:24

DD and I try on hats - she looks like a really sophisticate, I look like Call The Midwife. It's a laff!

Yesterday, I was in a Large High Street Store , I saw someone is a really horrible hat , I thought they were mucking about like DD and I do. I was going to smile and do a "Erm No" face ..........until I realised they were nowhere near the hats and it was their own.

I just wouldn't unless someone directly asked me. Then I'd be vague and subtle .

BeaBoo · 24/10/2015 19:32

I've just looked up that Poppy. She really doesn't dress well for her shape and a lot of what she wears ages her terribly. I feel slightly bad saying that but it's true.

Those boots are like a crap version of the beautiful Toga Pulla boots which I am desperate for.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2015 19:33

I don't like the Toga ones either.

AnyoneButAndre · 24/10/2015 19:40

I might possibly try and find a nice way to steer someone away from something gopping: "I don't think that's as flattering as the dress you had on when you came in", "item x looks a lot better than item y on you IMO", "Just thought I should let you know that, from this angle that only I can see that hangs in a bit of a funny way", "maybe with some Spanx to smooth out the lines?".

But there's no way to say it when she has a friend with her egging her on.

Coastingit · 24/10/2015 20:01

Those boots are the very definition of fugly.

I love telling people they look nice too, usually when drunk in pub toilets.

hugoagogo · 24/10/2015 20:32

that blog is amusing- that wonky stance -what a hoot! Grin

BlueEyedWonder · 24/10/2015 20:40

If it's someone I know well, I'd be blunt and say Nope. If it's someone I know less well, then more tricky I think as wouldn't want to hurt feelings and we do all like different things.

I'm getting bored of bloggers. They're all pushing shops their working with these days. I prefer to see how ordinary women dress from day to day.

Poppy seems to have so much chutzpah! Love her! Her style and budget are nothing like mine but I find her fabulous!

Doobigetta · 24/10/2015 22:17

Don't mean to be a bitch but I love that Poppy's statement that she bought something in a M/L "for an oversize fit".

BrendaandEddie · 24/10/2015 22:18

I'd never reveal sizes

I say nothing but if they hover and catch my eye and seem open to opinion I might say something like 'I preferred the last one'. But god it's fraught. Mostly I say not a thing.
And YES to the bra thing. So many, many times. So hard. Esp in M&S. Who's gonna believe me over a M&S tucked in, cats-bummed mouthed expert.

Good ole poppy. Love her.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2015 00:05

I was in Savers buying cleaning stuff about this time last year and an older man was in front of me with a list of perfumes for (presumably his wife's) a Christmas present - Chanel No 5, Estée Lauder White Linen, and Mitsouko were on it, and Savers didn't have any of them, so he asked the assistant what she recommended. She suggested a perfume by someone off TOWIE that had been popular. My jaw dropped, but to my shame I didn't say anything, and he bought it. That poor woman.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2015 05:32

Judy - let's hope his wife isn't on mn or she'll hunt you down for that

WilburIsSomePig · 25/10/2015 08:54

Ditto. Most of them don't look nearly as amazing as they think they do. I would love to find someone just completely normal who understands that lots of women have a budget, jobs, lives to run and not spend all their time taking selfies. Having said that, I could just stop reading them but I'm always on the search for THE one! Grin

dangerrabbit · 25/10/2015 09:54

I'd say nothing to a stranger as it was not my business. When I used to work in a shop I would say madam that doesn't hang right, would you like to try this or this? And present her with other styles

CreviceImp · 25/10/2015 11:02

Poppy's Style is a guide on how not to dress. Jeez that woman has NO idea how to dress for her barrel on twigs shape.

The money she spends too on looking shite

DMBL40 is a boring dresser and very formulaic.

Coming back to the OP - I would probably say something if I was in a changing room and someone asked but you rarely see people who look atrocious. The last person I had a visceral reaction to their sartorial choices was a woman on a programme my son was watching called First Dates. She looked like a cross between Kat Slater and a big fat gypsy wedding guest who had crammed herself into clothing three sizes too small. She was a pretty woman too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/10/2015 11:32

I just searched up "Poppys Style"......................Shock

It'll take a shed load of Brain Bleach to shift those images.

I'm a "40-something Mom "

I think i'd rather eat my own spleen

lurkingabit · 25/10/2015 12:40

Oh that's a bit harsh. Her taste isn't to mine but she appears to be a very genuine and honest blogger and has fantastic chutzpah. Fair play to her. I'd love her legs and budget.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/10/2015 12:45

Poppy is on here. She seems a nice person, but she does have erm...rather unique taste, and I think that her choices don't often flatter her figure. I wonder if she'd dress differently if living in the UK? I guess we do get influenced by what others around us are wearing, even if we think that we are immune to that.

CreviceImp · 25/10/2015 12:46

Harsh?

Go back and look again.......

Seriously poor.

maybemyrtle · 25/10/2015 12:50

Wow. That was an unkind post, crevice.

CreviceImp · 25/10/2015 12:57

Depends on your perspective. Some could say unkind and others upfront and truthful.

She could look great but she hasn't got a clue how to dress her shape.

lurkingabit · 25/10/2015 13:04

Well, she dresses to her taste. She likes it. Does it really matter if you or I like it?

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 25/10/2015 13:17

How should a 'barrel on twigs' shape dress?

CreviceImp · 25/10/2015 13:41

Granted, in the grand scheme of things it matters jack shit.

We all chat bollox on here though. Style and Beauty is just a load of escapist, lighthearted flimflam rather like the curious worlds of bloggers.....

Just my view but I get the distinct impression I am not alone in my sartorial dislike.
