What do you think of this 'look'?

I rather like this dress and the boots for smart casual weekend wear ( not the scarf).Coming up to Christmas we've quite a few days out planned and I don't feel I want to always be in jeans. White stuff also do the dress in a Navy and Hush have a similar one with a Burgundy top and navy skirt.
I was thinking it could be a very versatile look - just wondering what others thought. I'm a size 8-10 and 5'4 early forties?

Personally, I'd rather have a skirt and a jumper tbh.

I have the Hush one, and I like the look. The Hush one doesn't have an obvious join between the sweater top and the skirt bottom. I think if you have a nice sweater you could just buy a fippy skirt and it would look better. I have the Hush version because it means I can get dressed in seconds

That's my thinking Knackerd , I wear shift dresses and courts most days, with the occasional skirt and top for work. I really liked the idea of the combo without having to think about it.
The boots I thought finished it nicely with thick tights and bugger all effort - hey presto. Just worried about looking a little twee...
Have you washed the Hush one yet?

I have a massive aversion to clothes that pretend to be something they're not. Jumpers with shirt collars and cuffs sewn on and stuff like that.

I much prefer separates.

I think it really depends what it looks and feels like close up

I totally agree with Anenomes about pretend collars etc, but there's something really easy about a dress

Please can you link to the Hush one?

The White Stuff one is pretty and practical. I can imagine wearing it for slightly smarter weekend things when jeans might be a bit informal.

The skirt part looks really flimsy and I don't think it would wash well. Probably shrink and it's already quite short and end up a funny shape at the join. Also it's loose you'd get big draughts up it. So for that reason I would not buy it and find a similar skirt and top instead.

You would need a good warm coat to go with it, looks a bit light for winter. I think it looks nicer with the knitted scarf

Definitely not for me. I think it's really twee and mumsy. If they were separates, the jumper would be ok.
Also agree with Errin that the skirt part looks really flimsy, and it would probably wash weirdly.

I like it. Would definitely see if you can find some reviews on how it washes though as I think you would be in danger of it turning into a tunic rather than a dress after a few washes.

Me too.

Other than that, it looks nice.

I just object to it looking like a short+jumper (or perhaps dress+jumper) while actually being all one piece.

I don't like it: it screams 'don't look at me!'.

I really dislike the washed-out colours and tired-looking jersey that White Stuff things all seem to be made of.

I would definitely wear the cowl, though.

The Hush one looks very short. Like those longish dresses that were in fashion about 7 or 8 years ago that were worn over leggings.

I've hand washed the Hush one, by that I mean I put it in the machine on a hand wash cycle, and it turned out fine.

Well! I really like the look.

I shall be off to the charity shops tomorrow. I have a couple of DHs old jumpers that I could add the bottom of a skirt to. It should take about 15 minutes.

I'll grab some thick woolly tights once I know what colours I find Smile

I just think the purpose of wearing an outfit like that is the extra warmth from the layers. If the jumper is the top part of a dress rather than a jumper I imagine it would be chilly in a British winter (or any other British season for that matter...)

Thick tights and a vest top underneath, finished off with boots and it would be lovely and warm. You could pop a bodywarmer - or are they all gilets these days? - on top if it is really cold.

I too think it a very dull, drab dress. Agree with the PP regarding White Stuff and their dedication to washed out colours. Awfully unflattering. Also agree it screams 'oh, don't look at little old me'.

I like it, I bought a jumper/skirt dress recently and have worn it a few times, it's Superdry though, logo'd so not popular on here!

Not keen on it at all, the fabric doesn't look good quality and it's completely shapeless and a bit dull, I'd rather go for skirt and jumper separates with thick tights and boots
