Foundation talk

So I'm on pursuit of the perfect foundation. I have tried tinted moisturiser which was fairly good in my youth but I'm now approaching 40 ??. I moved on to mineral foundation which was ok but messy in the bathroom (always leaving a fine orangey dust everywhere!). Then came BB cream which was nice but didn't stay put.

Currently I'm using Estée Lauder double wear as I figured you pay for what you get. Here comes the but...although it is superior to any product I've tried and tested before its not quite right. It just doesn't blend well round my nose, under my eyes or near my jawline. And, yes I do prep my skin.

So what next? I don't mind paying a little more for the perfect product.

FYI, I have clear skin (seem to have finally outgrown spots!) although a little red In some areas and dry patches around my nose.

Also like Chanel. I use the aqua vitalumiere, I tend to oiliness and it suits.

Also like the Armani luminous silk one. But Chanel probably wins by a gnat's cock.

I got a sample of the GA luminous silk and so glad I did before shelling out because it was awful. Simultaneously greasy and flaky. Went patchy almost immediately. The only good thing about it was that it only lasted a couple of hours. Not in the same league as Chanel

Another vote for YSL fusion ink.

I swapped from double wear to it. It's amazingly build-able coverage and comes with a droplet applicator so little wastage.

I have a smidgeon for dewy coverage, and a few extra drops if I am looking spotty and hanging. Covers all.

Feels like silk too

I'd be inclined to have a counter session with a brand with a lot of foundation options eg Bobbi Brown then investigate similar shades via the Temptalia website matching options with different finishes till you get the right foundation type iyswim.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua
The Face Shop Aura CC cream

So as not to waste your current EL bottle, maybe try mixing it with a generic moisturizer to make it thinner/sheerer.

Chanel vitalumiere aqua.
I've tried every foundation going almost.
I used to like Double Wear but then found it was making me look flat and ageing me.

Yes. It's definitely flat.
I'd be surprised if a foundation can do dewy and full coverage

Good thinking GRIM! Looks like Chanel is very very popular amongst you ladies!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic. I've just bought it after reading excellent reviews in the press. It really is lovely - good coverage but not flat looking. I've had so many compliments since I started wearing it.

YSL Fusion Ink for me too. I have tried all the others mentioned on this thread , and this one is my favourite by far . Ask for a sample (little bottles given out ) do you can get the exact colour match .

My fave so far is Lancôme Visionnaire foundation. It's both dewy and excellent coverage. After reading this I'm quite keen to try the Chanel one though!

Ooh yes, the Lancome Visionnaire one is lovely.

Tried loads of these mentioned and my 3 faves for natural medium coverage are ysl fusion ink, Dior forever and clarins everlasting. My skin is oily so it needs to be long lasting but I also like the dewy look so didn't much like el double wear or reckon colourstay. Found the Chanel a bit meh on me but my skin is difficult for foundations being oily and different tones across my face Envy

I've just switched to Chanel Lift Lumiere Fluid, previously used Vitalumiere (v nice) and Vitalumiere Aqua (not keen, too watery, the clue is in the name).

The Chanel assistant suggested that the Vitalumiere wasn't quite right for my colouring any more. I think she really meant that I'm looking old and saggy and the Lift is more age appropriate Grin. I'm 49. But to give her her due, it's lovely, perfect coverage, feels lightweight, not all all cakey, would definitely recommend.

Reading with interest ladies. I'm 42 and although I do think i have pretty good skin none of my BB or CC creams are cutting it anymore so all suggestions helpful.

STOP SAYING LADIES

My preference is YSL Touche Eclat. Not heavy coverage but gives a lovely healthy glow.

Nothing wrong with saying ladies...surely.

Thanks (ladies!) for all the suggestions. Think I will compare Chanel, Dior and YSL at the counter. Put my usual EL double wear on today after a shower at work and it didn't go on at all well. My nose had that vintage distressed look! My skin is dry around my nose but normal elsewhere definitely not oily.

I don't get the issue with 'ladies' either. I'm tempted to try the new Givenchy foundation.
