Done with Lush's henna (Caca rouge). I look like I am wearing a Guantanemo Bay uniform on my head.

The girl in the shop DID warn me it was bright, but would I listen? Oh no. I was all 'BRING IT ON, I want to look VIBRANT for the autumn'.

PLEASE HALP!

I don't think it looks THAT bright.

SewingAndCakes · 16/10/2015 14:34

I think it looks ok, and I've had my fair share of orange hair problems. You could use a Directions dye over it, maybe pillarbox red?

shovetheholly · 16/10/2015 14:36

Can I put another non-henna dye over it? I don't want to 'correct' it to green! Confused

ARockNRollNerd · 16/10/2015 14:37

No advice here, but I like that colour.

squoosh · 16/10/2015 14:38

I think it looks good!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/10/2015 14:38

Can you out a brown henna over the top?

SconeForAStroll · 16/10/2015 14:42

Can you get to a Superdrug? They do a wash in wash out hair colour, not permanent or semi - like the Toners and Shaders packets used to be.

They are (I think) £1.79 and work really well.

Although actually I think it looks really nice and suits your colouring Smile

shovetheholly · 16/10/2015 14:42

I can definitely use caca brun or marron over the top. But it takes 3 hours and another hour to clean the bathroom afterwards so I don't have time now before this evening's boozy session.

Sadly, as you can probably tell, I do not rock hats. I look like Letitia Cropley in them. However, I may have little choice other than to try.

Would purple shampoo tone it down?

ModenaMan · 16/10/2015 14:46

Looks good to me. I was expecting....

shit, shit, shit, my hair is Lucozade orange
shovetheholly · 16/10/2015 14:51

Hahahaha! I do a good Beaker impression when I'm moaning.

PURPLE SHAMPOO! What is this glorious thing? I just googled it, and I reckon it would work! I'm going to try it!! Thank you

Purple shampoo stops very blonde hair looking brassy (I have a sachet of purple conditioner in my highlighting kits)

I used to henna, I would have loved your colour Grin mine went more auburny.

Gin was what was recommended back then to remove the excess.
Keep scooping out the bowl and pouring it over.

Or drink it Wink

IsadoraQuagmire · 16/10/2015 15:05

Ok, so I used to use henna (not Lush, but pure henna powder) It's always bright orange at first (especially if you're blonde, which I am) but it oxidizes over a period of days (that's an individual thing, can be up to 7 days, but mine used to take about 4) When it's oxidized it will be darker. If it's still too bright, you can use it again and it will be darker next time.
If it's the right color for you - and I'm talking about henna powder with no additives, but I assume Lush is the same) then just do roots from then on, as the more whole head henna treatments you do, the darker the hair will get (it builds up like wood stain)

If you don't want to henna again, a true semi like Directions as Sewing mentioned should tone it down (a true semi meaning one that lasts about 8 washes, then completely washes out, not something like Casting Creme Gloss that has peroxide in it - they're actually demi permanents)

Again, I don't know about Lush, but henna often repels any dye you try to use over it, and it doesn't take. It depends on your hair.

Remember henna is VERY permanent. It's taken me about 3 years to grow mine out. As you've only just done it it MIGHT wash out a bit, but basically most people can't remove henna whatever you read on the internet! There's some absolute crap online about henna, real misinformation.
Also, whoever suggested purple shampoo, that only works to tone down brassiness/yellow on blonde hair, won't affect orange!

That's lovely! And it really seems to go with your colouring and features.

Keep it, it's fab!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/10/2015 15:13

No help at all, but I think the colour is lovely and it suits you (from the little bit of your face that was visible).

suenan · 16/10/2015 15:14

Looks great in photo. My hair used to be that colour ( before fading due to old age) and I am offended at it being called lucozade orangeWink. It's a shade of sophisticated auburn. Smile

ShelaghTurner · 16/10/2015 15:15

What's the fuss about, it looks fab. I'd kill for that instead of my shade of greying dark rodent

Blodss · 16/10/2015 15:16

Your Welcome! I use it to tone down my brassy highlights when I get too carried away. Lots of brands do a version now.

TreacleFiend · 16/10/2015 15:21

That looks lovely, actually!

I'm also very taken with your wallpaper. Star

shovetheholly · 16/10/2015 15:23

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I am touched.

I don't know what to do now. I really hated it at first but maybe I was just a bit Shock. If it changes over the next few days then perhaps I'll just make it worse trying to alter the colour.

squoosh · 16/10/2015 15:25

Is that Cole & Son wallpaper I spy?

Blodss · 16/10/2015 15:29

Coconut oil and olive oil left on overnight can remove some of the henna too IF its your first henna dye. And the sooner its done the better before the henna has time to be fully absorbed by your hair.

DirectorFury · 16/10/2015 15:35

I did this with the exact same henna. It was my first time using it (hence no build up) and I managed to remove all the colour in two treatments of extra strong ColourB4.

If you go down this route you'll need to leave it on your hair for as long as possible with heat on it (I did 4 hours a time, wrapping in cling film) and then rinse for up to an hour each time. Your hair will be very dry after all the rinsing so get a good conditioner for afterwards.

You'll also need to be very careful to avoid re-oxidation (?) of any henna particles left, though this shouldn't happen as long as you rinse thoroughly.

DirectorFury · 16/10/2015 15:37

Oh, and don't use ColourB4 if you're planning to leave the house/go somewhere nice for about 2 weeks - you'll stink of sulphur.

And your hair will smell like sulphur every time it gets wet for about a month Envy
