curly hair - silicon free products that don't cost the earth?

I usually use deva care products which I can buy on Amazon, but they're pretty pricey sometimes, so before I go and stock up again I was looking for recommendations for any silicon free products (shampoo, conditioner, styling product) that were easier to buy and didn't cost a small fortune!

I've tried the body shop rainforest range before and didn't get on with it at all. There seems to be a few new ranges out since I last looked, so any MN faves that are worth a try?

Auld I put salt (I use sea salt but any will do) in my bath water and rinse my hair in fresh salted water, you just have to swish the salt around a bit.

Bathing in it is amazing for eczema.

Thanks, I'll try that!
The water here is so hard, it's very bad for my hair.

Superdrug started doing the Dark and lovely range .. It's in the ethnic aisle ... It dosent contain cones , zanes and everything else that makes curly hair frizz
3 for 2 on the products as well at the moment

Sorry AuldAlliance I meant to say tell us how you get with the softened water!

AuldAlliance · 19/10/2015 18:13

Will do, ppeat.
Haven't tried it yet as have caught headlice from the DC and it's keeping me v busy and rather tempted to shave ma heid...
But I'll do it once I stop using special shampoo and faffing so much with a comb!

I'm a curly girl (no shampoo, silicone free) and I use either argan oil or avocado oil, or a combo of the two for an overnight conditioner. I get both from bay and just stroke them through and leave in overnight. They come out with a conditioning. Cheap and makes your hair soft and shiny and curly.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 19/10/2015 18:35

Marking place as I used to use naked shoo and conditioner but they've disappeared from savers and all the pound shops now, I've used inecto conditioner and it's great, ultra cheap, but when I'm running/ swimming lots I feel.I need a shampoo too.

Like the idea of the salts in water, dead sea salt is great.for muscle aches etc in a bath. No good for showers though!

Oh Auld The best thing for them annoying nits is pure new Ttree ess oil , I had the same as you from the dcs and I used to put it all round (you know behind the ears and base of neck also the centre of my scalp every day) (never had a repeat of nits but at the hint of an itch i do it)!!! Small dcs need it to be diluted in water before you put it on but the older ones can use it neat as long as they don't have any negative reactions).

I've just jumped into the curly girl method and the low poo method. My cuts were so much more defined. What made all the difference I think was the squish to condish method and plopping (who named it that?). Only bad thing is that my hair feels crunchy.
