Will be going to Vegas in a month and really don't know what clothes to take :( has anyone been, please and give me the low down on what to pack.

Will going to a couple of shows in the evening as well and I was wondering do people dress up (nice dress and heels) or just wear casual clothes? Any advice will be great, thanks :)

It's surprisingly casual. The most important thing is that you will walk miles. Even if you get a can between hotels you walk miles within each hotel. So wear comfortable shoes!!!

It's a brilliant place (see my username!). Have fun.

VegasIsBest · 03/10/2015 22:20

Sorry. 'Get a cab...'

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/10/2015 22:23

Am very jealous. I love Vegas. Disneyland for grownups.

Anything goes in Vegas. Literally anything. Grin

There will be everything from fat Americans in trackies and trainers to suited-and-booted high rollers and their glamorous hangers-on. Just wear your normal clothes, what you are comfortable in, maybe something slightly dressy for dinner and a show. Some of the fancier restaurants in some of the fancier casinos do have a dress code e.g. no jeans or whatever. Where are you staying? The hotels mostly all have gorgeous pool areas so take several bathing suits - I'm not certain (I've always been there in summer) but I think the weather in October will still be nice enough for some time by the pool.

And don't forget, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Wink

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/10/2015 22:24

Very good point about the distances.

1998WasAGoodYear · 03/10/2015 22:29

Thanks for the reply Vegas I've got a pair of Ecco sandals that I'm taking - not glamorous but very comfy :).

What type of clothes do people wear in the evening? I can't decide if I need to buy a couple of dresses or just take smartish jeans/trousers to wear with heels and nice top.

Americans dress very casually, comfy shoes as u walk miles. I always take some dressier clothes as well and cardigans for the aircon.

BrianButterfield · 03/10/2015 22:32

You can wear anything you like. Honestly there is no dress code and no judgement - you will see people in shorts and sandals or cocktail dresses - wedding dresses even! Just whatever you are comfortable in. If you like it - wear it.

UnicornFart · 03/10/2015 22:35

We've been twice in two years! I love Vegas!

First time was our honeymoon, only time we got dressed up in the evening was when we went to a champagne bar & to see a show. Every other night I was in casual dresses.

Round two I was 6 months pregnant and lived in maxi skirts & vests - day & night. We went as my parents were getting married over there.

Apart from the slightly higher end restaurants, everywhere is very chilled out & relaxed. As others have said, comfy shoes as there is lots of walking. The breakfast buffets (wicked spoon at The Cosmo is my favourite) will see people in ever type of outfit...fancy dress, pool wear, people coming in from a night out, shorts etc.

Enjoy! I'm very jealous!

MimiSunshine · 03/10/2015 22:42

In Vegas, night is day and day is night. Anything goes.

Once while waiting for the rest of my party near the lifts in MGM I saw people stepping out in shorts & Ts, full evening dress, cocktail dresses. "Club" dresses, fancy dress & swim wear.

Take whatever you like to wear on holiday, I got dressed up at night because I like to.

1998WasAGoodYear · 03/10/2015 22:44

Thanks for the replies :) MN never lets you down !!Thanks Feeling a lot more relaxed about it now - I think I'll take one dress and then a few mix and match outfits.

Dowser · 03/10/2015 22:45

When I was there the buses were brilliant and yes anything goes. Shorts and tees, sun dress.

Loved it. Wonder if I have any chance of persuading the husband to take me. It's been 19 years!

Dowser · 03/10/2015 22:47

Don't forget you are in the desert and in November it canbe a bit chilly at night so you might want a jacket/ cardi for a night.

We went October and seem to remember needing a bit of a cover up some nights.

amazonqueen · 03/10/2015 22:48

If you look at The bellagio web cam photos you can see the default type of clothing is 'comfortable' for all ages.
Dress up for a show but dont wear high heels if they hurt at all. The distances you walk are huge and you dont want to retire hurt when theres still hours of fun left .
Its getting a bit colder now so layers will be good.

Otherwise just have the normal clothes you would wear on holiday.

Have a great time.

lorelei9 · 03/10/2015 22:49

I second the "wear what you like" - it's a fabulous place with no judgement and you will see all sorts.

I actually had a couple of compliments on my dressier jackets from random people - we went in December - but the hotel receptionist made an interesting point - she said "people always love dressy coats here because it doesn't often get cold enough to wear them". I feel the cold like you wouldn't believe, so I also had a fake fur stole which I haven't worn in the UK at all - I don't know where I would, but at a show in Vegas, over a dress? Totally normal.

I also took a couple of handbags that might be considered pretty tacky here.

I did also wear a lot of jewellery - fake - because while I might wear one big ring at home on a night out, in Vegas it's totally normal to pile it on so I did it just for fun. And a lot of glittery eye shadow. I don't know why but I would feel odd in a lot of London bars in glittery eye shadow. Maybe that's weird.

Damn, I love Vegas. Enjoy! Report back! What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and goes on MN, right?

After reading your replies I'm getting really excited about going !! It seems everyone loves Vegas :)

lore promise to report back :)

ZZZ I wouldn't mind some volume in my hair - I tend to be a bit "lank" !

mew :)

Good idea about jacket and cardigans - hadn't thought about chilly evenings or aircon .... duh

amazon off to have a look at the webcam - thanks

Just what the others said - flat shoes and then whatever else you like!

I tended to dress up in the evenings, just for fun, but other members of my party stuck to jeans. Anything goes. You could wear a bikini with trainers at night on the Strip and nobody would blink...

missmartha · 04/10/2015 08:28

Everyone is spot on, just wear whatever you fancy. If you are gong to a concert or something you might fancy getting dressed up, but no one will expect you to, people truly wear anything and everything.

Very good point re walking, you can walk miles and miles in a day. Flat shoes are a must as is something to wear over your shoulders in the evening.

Have fun.

splodgeness · 06/10/2015 13:36

Loooove vegas!
Mostly very casual unless you are intending to go somewhere special.
But the aircon is fierce so take cardis, and pashminas for indoor layering.

FrustratedFrugal · 06/10/2015 15:59

Do not take your typical beach holiday evening outfit. It is super casual unless you are going to a wedding. My friend who lives in the US never wears any of her formal outfits or going out clothes. I've been to Vegas many times and have only ever worn jeans and denim shorts except once when it was a fancy wedding and I wore an evening gown on a people mover

FrustratedFrugal · 06/10/2015 15:59

Oh and it is a shopping paradise, anything you need you can buy there.

AHypnotistCollector · 06/10/2015 16:05

As others have said, you can dress how you want. You'll see people in jogging pants and people in mini dresses and towering louboutins.

I live in Vegas and I do dress up if we go to a show but that's because I don't get out much!

There is Uber here now so download the app when you get here. It can work out a lot cheaper than cabs.

Glitteryfrog · 06/10/2015 16:33

When we went we were out from early until late - its a slog back to your hotel.
The only time we went back to the hotel was when we'd driven to an outlet mall and needed to drop stuff off and when we went to a show so made an effort to come back and change.
I wore fairly casual shorts and tops or sun dresses.
Even in nice restaurants no one batted an eyelid at our clothes.

leadrightfoot · 06/10/2015 16:46

We went end oct / start Nov. It was cold in the afternoon and some days when it was not overly sunny.

Layers is good
Footwear better
I clocked up 10 miles walking between and through hotels one day!
