Eyebrows need a tidy - is threading v painful?

gBean · 29/09/2015 16:38

I'm lucky in the eyebrow dept in that they don't need a lot of maintenance - I tried to pluck the untidy bits and it bloody hurt.

I use veet (I. Know.) and really need to get myself sorted out.

Any tips?

I find threading to be the easiest way. I find it less painful than plucking and waxing but I do have stubborn, coarse eyebrows that one line of wax won't do anything to.

LovelyPostItNotes · 29/09/2015 16:52

yes. yes it is.

Although actually, it's probably just the same as waxing, but it takes longer so the pain is drawn out.

CityDweller · 29/09/2015 16:54

No more painful than waxing. But yes, it does hurt. Over quickly though!

maitaimojito · 29/09/2015 16:57

It is painful but not horrendously so.

I think the level of pain depends on the skill of the person threading and also how long I leave it before I get them done again.

AHypnotistCollector · 29/09/2015 17:00

I had it done for the first time recently and was expecting a lot of pain. It didn't hurt at all! I have quite fine hairs so maybe that's why?

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 29/09/2015 17:08

Yes. It is agony.

Waxing is a doddle.

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 29/09/2015 17:11

It is painful but if you hold your skin really taut (you have to pull your eyebrow and hold it for the threader)
It tends to not hurt so much.
It gives amazing results and is v cheap.
Totally worth a bit of pain.

lougle · 29/09/2015 17:11

It hurts, but the lady in the shopping precinct can tidy my monobrow in under 3 minutes. In fact a friend commented on my lovely eyebrows today (I had it done yesterday).

It's really worth doing.

emwithme · 29/09/2015 17:12

Initially, yes, it hurts. The pain (for me at least) fades far quicker than waxing pain. I also don't look like I've been painted with a giant pink highlighter for 20 minutes.

I find it helps to take an ibuprofen about 20 minutes before I go, and not to time it for when I'm on my period if possible, because that hurts WAY more.

I also let the lady who threads me know that my right eye WILL leak, I am not crying, it does it as soon as the thread pulls the first hair out (wherever she starts) and it's just one of those things. (I go to a fabulous small salon in a very Asian area of the town I grew up where pretty much all they do is threading and it's only £1.50 for eyebrows)

Redcrayons · 29/09/2015 17:13

It feels like you're having your face ripped off. It's worse than waxing because it goes on for minutes hours and hours.
I much prefer the shape from threading though so I put up with it.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 29/09/2015 17:13

I don't find it painful.

IME it produces the best result.

paperdreams94 · 29/09/2015 17:29

Threading is 10000 times more painful than waxing in my opinion, and makes my eyes water so much that I can't actually see a thing when I open them, but I find that the results are so much better than waxing that I put up with it.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 29/09/2015 17:31

Yes, it hurts quite a bit. But it's quick and the results are amazing.

Nonnainglese · 29/09/2015 17:40

I find waxing much more painful than threading, that goes for my upper lip too.
Much prefer threading, it's cheaper and the effect last longer without the pink highlighter effect from waxing.
I go to Debenhams where you can buy 6 sessions at a reduced rate in advance.

MyNameIsRonnieFuckingPickering · 29/09/2015 17:44

The shape that threading gives your brows is worth the pain. Waxing is so much more haphazard.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/09/2015 17:46

No, it's not painful. It stings a bit but it's over and done with really quickly.

Mrsmorton · 29/09/2015 17:49

It used to hurt me but one day, I decided to convince myself I couldn't feel it. Sure enough, completely painless now. Genuinely mind over matter for me. I love my threading lady.

PinotPony · 29/09/2015 17:57

No, it doesn't hurt. Smarts a bit but all fine 10 minutes later. And the shape is great!

gBean · 29/09/2015 17:57

When I said I use veet, I mean the cream - such a bad bad idea haha! It's also a bit haphazard as its applied with a cotton bud. Such a wuss. Hmm. I think I'll bite the bullet. Thanks all

It does hurt but I'm a wimp. they look great though so I've had them done every month for a few years now.

It gets less painful the more you have it done.

Amrapaali · 29/09/2015 18:03

When you are feeling a bit brave, try threading your whole face. Painful yes, but ohmigod so worth it. Skin becomes smooth and make up just glides on.

I regularly thread my chin, (ahem!)and moustache and the sides of my face. Grin

Doobigetta · 29/09/2015 18:51

Threading is the most unbelievably painful experience. Waxing and plucking are nothing in comparison.

junebirthdaygirl · 29/09/2015 21:50

I don't find threading painful at all. So quick. Definitely better than plucking as over before you know it. I always got a reaction to the wax so threading brilliant as so products involved. Go for it. You will never change.

pdxs · 29/09/2015 22:14

I don't find it painful, but i think it is based on experience level of person who is doing it... it does help to stretch skin, & pain threshold can be worse around time of the month so if you find waxing etc painful try to avoid that time (or when feeling tired/sleep deprived)

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/09/2015 09:12

I won't lie to you, op. It's bloody agonising, but if you can cope with pain, its well worth it. Yes waxing hurts but only for a few seconds, whereas threading is a continual pain.
