they are from Hobbs

I have about £300 to spend on some decent boots, and these look pretty good to me. I have had some Hobbs boots before and they were really good quality, do you think these are worth it, or are there better brands I should look at. I want something plain, that I can wear with tights, leggings etc with long tunic tops.

Any suggestions oh oracles of style?

In the pic they don't even look like leather.

faustina · 22/09/2015 19:37

How about These from Russell and Bromley?

faustina · 22/09/2015 19:38

... or maybe not, considering what Lambzig says about hers. They look much better quality than the Hobbs ones

PennyPants · 22/09/2015 19:53

They're OK but expensive, but if that's what you have to spend....
I do agree with the welly comments, they do remind me of my wellies and riding boots too much for me.

SarfEast1cated · 22/09/2015 20:03

even DH said they looked boring! Good point lamzig about never wearing them. I think I'll go for the Boden ones and use the change to buy something that isn't a tunic, or maybe some Chelsea boots would be more de rigeur?

YY to Chelsea boots.

SarfEast1cated · 22/09/2015 20:11

Would you wear chelsea boots tights and a sweater dress type thing? Or just with narrow jeans? I am hopelessly out of date I know...

£300 for a pair of boots!!!

Iusedtobeapenguin · 22/09/2015 20:12

Side tracking slightly - but can someone tell me what's wrong with tunic tops? Confused

lotrben17 · 22/09/2015 20:13

I like them and have Hobbs boots I've had 10 years but I bought r&b aquatalia ones three years ago and looove them - really comfy too. Think those Hobbs ones are a tiny bit bland and I'm not a snappy dresser.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2015 20:14

I'd wear Chelsea boots with skinnies, or with tights and a jumper dress, yep. Not with leggings or tunics though.

XiCi · 22/09/2015 20:14

I think they would look as if youre about to partake in an equestrian event

I like the first linked Kurt geiger and the Russell and Bromley ones though

lotrben17 · 22/09/2015 20:16

Ps bought boden boots last year (ankle ones), and they look absolutely knackered after fairly minimal wear.

ouryve · 22/09/2015 20:20

Nothing is wrong with tunic tops, Iusedtobeapenguin. They are wonderful for those of us a little mountainous in the waistline.

SarfEast1cated · 22/09/2015 20:39

I'm thinking about Chelsea boots now... They had some nice ones in clarks (my usual shoe shop of choice!), although I shudder to think what you'll think of them!

Glad you liked them, dont forget Quidco will give you 8% cashback.

TodmordensDog · 22/09/2015 20:49

I got some leather boots like that last winter from Sainsburys for £55. I know they've got them again and I think they have them in black too. They're amazing, I wore them to trek around Rome and they were so comfy. Worth a look!

TheUrbaneFox · 22/09/2015 20:51

They're a bit boring, and I disagree that they wouldn't go out of fashion. They're very much this season's boot. Tall, simple, flat.

GeneParmesan · 22/09/2015 21:00

I like them but I'm not a fan of anything too fussy. I think you could wear them with a lot of different outfits.

amarmai · 22/09/2015 21:04

yes op, i love dvf wrap dresses and her tunics- have a few . Also wear knit dresses with leggings- altho today i am wearing a tunic and slightly flared jeans. I think chelsea boots are perfect with tunics and knit dresses - maybe not dvf?

Lambzig · 22/09/2015 21:09

Those Clarks ones are a little unsleek for me for Chelsea boots, I think you want elegant, not clumpy.

DinosaursRoar · 22/09/2015 21:11

Clarks also have plain black knee high boots that are not all that different to the Boden ones and even cheaper again... (can't link now, but have a little look at their black knee highs). Have also seen some similar in Sainsburys, worth a check and then spending £250 on some non-boring things to wear with them!

DinosaursRoar · 22/09/2015 21:12

sainsburys £41

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2015 21:23

These are absolutely gorgeous irl, but I suspect that the pale heel and sole would get dirty quickly. Somebody will leap in soon to say that they are mum boots, but I really like them. These are nice too, but they didn't work for me - made my small, narrow feet look really long and even skinnier.

SarfEast1cated · 22/09/2015 22:50

Maybe I need to start a thread about what I could by for £300 to update my wardrobe! To be honest though, I am pushing 50 and really don't need to be fashionable, just want some good quality pieces that will last me! I really like the COS aesthetic, the kind or batty yet stylish art teacher look. I tend to wear tunics as I don't really like to show my body off. I am a square shape with pretty reasonable legs. As a child of the 70s I will not be wearing flares again!
