Are these shoes horrid?

Here these ones

I am really tempted. But I also need boots for the winter. And fancy a new coat. And generally speaking new shoes are a luxury item for me. Confused

I'm a SAHM and spend most of the autumn/ winter in skinny jeans and flat boots. I am not a heels wearer. Blush

So... Are these mad, start right style children's shoes, or actually rather nice and would work with jeans and skirts?

I love em IF you have slim ankles. With my cankles I would look like that one in Dinnerladies who "came from Urmston".
Thanks be to Jeebus that boot season is here !

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 19/09/2015 11:02

I love them. In fact I think I might need to buy a pair now Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 19/09/2015 11:08

No no no.

They are giving me school-shoe flashbacks.

legolegolego · 19/09/2015 13:43

I love them. I have similar-ish ones but these are so much nicer. I love a clumpy shoe!

mayum1 · 19/09/2015 14:37

I have a similar pair by Dr Martens.

BelindaBagwash · 19/09/2015 14:40

I have a very similar pair from Clarks. They look great with thick black tights or trousers. Wore them to work last week and got lots of compliments.

Go for it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/09/2015 14:44

Horrible. The DM ones are nicer, if you have to.

PetiteBateau · 19/09/2015 17:02

I quite like giant toddler shoes like that but only on super skinny quirky clothed teen girls

Madbengalmum · 19/09/2015 17:03

God, they remind me of shoes i was forced to wear with white socks for school when i was 6

Greengardenpixie · 19/09/2015 17:05

I like them :) and so do 206 people if you go by the reviews. They are funky. I would wear them with trousers and a skirt/dress above the knee.

Greengardenpixie · 19/09/2015 17:08

I have a red pair of dr martens mary janes that i love. Kind of agree that the DM's are nicer.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 19/09/2015 17:09

I always assume that people who wears these type of shoes have painful bunions or similar.

mewkins · 19/09/2015 17:12

I like them. Office have a few slightly less school shoe like.

ouryve · 19/09/2015 17:14

I love those shoes and did try some on as they looked perfect for my wide feet, but they're really fucking uncomfortable. The soles are heavy, flat and hard and I wouldn't be ale to walk in them without incurring severe pain.

AmazeMe · 19/09/2015 17:14

I like them. With the caveat that you need nice ankles.

Devilishpyjamas · 19/09/2015 17:16

I love them, but lots of mumsnet will hate them.

ouryve · 19/09/2015 17:21

Many of us do have foot problems, whoknewit. I do hope you don't see that as a matter for scorn and derision.

Many people who slip around in flip flops or completely flat footed in a cute pair of ballet flats (as well as the obvious slaves to heels and pointy toes) are likely to find themselves in the same boat as they get older (refers to podiatrist post, upthread).

TRexingInAsda · 19/09/2015 17:29

I'm not a massive flat shoes fan but these are nice. Are you wearing them for an audience or for you? Assuming for you, then go for it, buy the shoes.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 19/09/2015 17:31

My dad's partner has them in red. She's in her 40s. She's quite quirky with her style and suits them. I wouldn't wear them but wouldn't look twice at someone who was.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 19/09/2015 17:31

Err no I am not full of hatred for those of the wide foot and bunion afflicted.

I have simply stated that's that's why I would assume people would choose such an ugly shoe and you have biw said i am correct.

DepecheNO · 19/09/2015 17:51

I wouldn't if you need boots. I'm 22 and genuinely interested if anyone can link a pic of someone pulling these off. I like them in their own right but cannot imagine what they'd be worn with!

LittleMiss77 · 19/09/2015 18:37

OP - i like the shoes.

If you need boots for winter may i recommend these....

I saw someone wearing similar the other day. She was wearing an above knee patterned dress a fine black cardigan nearly as long and opaque tights with blue Mary Jane shoes. She was neither especially young or slim but in a children's healthcare environment she looked approachable and comfortable but like she'd taken a bit of care being coordinated and with nice accessories. (I was stuck in waiting room so I had ages to notice!). So I vote yes if you suit an informal look. It's a bit anti fashion though so will give the fashionistas apoplexy

maybemyrtle · 19/09/2015 19:27

That style was fashionable when I was a teenager and I couldn't wear them then, way too twee.

hiccupgirl · 19/09/2015 20:25

I have these in pale blue from last year and love them. I couldn't care less if other people think 'giant toddler' etc. I too, also wear them with stripy or bright socks to make even worse. I can't stand the ballerina flats that are everywhere and I also have a massive problem with people wearing shoes (except for sandals) without socks....sweaty and rubby IME.

I wear mine with jeans or trousers. I haven't worn them with a skirt but only because I tend to stick to boots with a skirt.

If you like them OP then get them and wear them. Life is too short to worry and it would be very boring if we all liked the same things.
