Bloggers sponsored click links

Does anyone else shit the window and look separately if thinking of buying?

I know. I know. But it's so annoying.

Is "shit the window" a euphemism? Grin

teacher1984 · 13/09/2015 09:16

I'm not a blogger but I think that's kind of a shitty attitude, no? Because of their work creating and uploading a post you have found something that interests you. They've helped you find an item that might work in your own wardrobe or whatever, yet you don't want them to earn a tiny commission from a purchase? You do realise that if sponsored links didn't exist there really would be NO bloggers and NO free content for you to make use of.

You earn money from your job, right? Don't tell me you work for your boss for free? Then why should a blogger provide all that content for no financial gain? I don't understand your attitude at all.

BrendaandEddie · 13/09/2015 09:38

I know. But some blogs more clicky than others right. And it irks

My bugbear is that some of the blogs are virtually nothing BUT links now - great long links of stuff. I'm perfectly capable of looking through a website myself, and don't need somebody to tell me the five things worth looking at, or whatever.

lurkingabit · 13/09/2015 10:38

I don't mind as much if the blogger tells you she makes money from links. Pisses me right off if she doesn't and yes, I shut the window.

But can a device recognise the originating link or does it have to be 'clicked on' to be emm monetised. I cannot believe I've just used that word. Christ. Sad.

chanie44 · 13/09/2015 10:46

But some bloggers can be a bit disingenuous eg linking to stores not because they like the clothes, but because they'll get paid.

AmberNectarine · 13/09/2015 12:09

I have a much neglected blog and so I know some of the higher paying affiliate links. I do notice some bloggers link to a lot of those without necessarily buying from them. I never link anything on my blog because of affiliate links (and as such have never made any money from them!)

Floisme · 13/09/2015 12:34

why should a blogger provide all that content for no financial gain?

Call me old fashioned but for me, this is where it's all gone wrong. The most interesting bloggers I know - on any topic - started out because they had something they wanted to say. Any financial gain came much later down the line if indeed it came at all.

Too many fashion bloggers seem to be missing this point.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/09/2015 12:48

Agree entirely, Flo.

BrendaandEddie · 13/09/2015 12:49

Which ones pay up most?

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 13/09/2015 13:26

Zara pays nothing I think so very few bloggers link to it.

Personally I go through quidco for any shopping for the cashback. Also can't remember the last time I really clicked on any link from a blog.

louloubelle2 · 13/09/2015 13:31

teacher1984 it's totally arse about face to say bloggers wouldn't exist without links.

As Floisme said, blogging started to share ideas and interests first, they are/were just online diaries made public essentially. The money making came later when brands and companies realised they could get masses of exposure and publicity for very little effort and far less money than traditional marketing channels.

A really eyeopener is when you see well known bloggers do wardrobe sales, via a separate tab on their blog or Instagram. Under the guise of simply having a clear out, yet most of what they sell is listed as "worn once", or worse "used once in a flat lay", makes you realise that most of what they photograph themselves in was worn solely for the purpose of selling it.

Coastingit · 13/09/2015 19:11

Haha yes I bought a Hush dress off eBay, and before buying it googled for images of people wearing it - the one that I really liked was a blogger. I bought it 'unworn' then noticed the eBay seller name was astonishingly similar to the blogger! I messaged her asking if she was indeed the blogger and she denied it, the cheeky mare. I wouldn't mind but it smelled a bit worn from her photo shoot in it - wafting around fields and whatnot.

Coastingit · 13/09/2015 19:15

Here she is in my dress wafting around HmmGrin

BrendaandEddie · 13/09/2015 20:39

lurkingabit · 13/09/2015 20:42

What's a 'flat lay'?

Bet Hush pay a lot for clicks linkies. Every blog seems to rave on and on and on about Hush.

BrendaandEddie · 13/09/2015 20:44

AND some kind of flat pump thing. Mind you she does always dress as being mauled by wild beasts

Have H&M sent you anything for getting all those people to buy stripy tops? They ought to send you something!

JuneFromBethesda · 13/09/2015 20:49

Coasting that's so funny. But bloody cheeky of her too!

I think Flo is spot on. I lose interest in blogs when bloggers start doing too much sponsored or gifted stuff. I don't mind a bit of it but when it's more sponsored than not, it starts to lose integrity and feel less authentic. What I like about blogs is the sense that this is a real person writing about what they choose to wear, not what they've ended up wearing because they were steered that way.

And yes, Brenda, I do that too. Occasionally I'll use the link from the website, if the blogger isn't one who's constantly featuring gifted items. But mostly not.

BrendaandEddie · 13/09/2015 20:50

when it is on the Mumsnet recommends email they better bloody refund me

OP posts:
louloubelle2 · 14/09/2015 08:22

I don't want to post a pic, even a random one from google, but google fashion flat lay and you'll see in images exactly what it is; an overhead shot looking down on folded items of clothes and shoes.

BrendaandEddie · 14/09/2015 08:29

That it even has a name

OP posts:
oliviafrombolivia · 14/09/2015 08:44

she could have at least ironed that Hush dress before wearing it!

BrendaandEddie · 14/09/2015 09:00

she looks bloody irritating
