Do you think nail varnish colour says something about you?

I am very conscious when wearing colour on my nails. I either go pale pink or very dark but am conscious when I wear red.

Is it just me?

Yes I suppose red nails and red lips was quite an iconic 80s look.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 23:02

Like in Robert Palmer videos.

DarkNavyBlue · 12/09/2015 23:03

I wear red when I want SEX. Grin

BoskyCat · 12/09/2015 23:05

Yes exactly :o

I don't mean I think that about women who wear it. Just I don't want to.

MairzyDoats · 12/09/2015 23:06

I think post-box red looks French... very now, rather chic. As long as the nails are short. Long nails in any colour are desperately dated. Blarblarblar, your nails remind me of Dorothy's ruby slippers!

stripytees · 12/09/2015 23:08

squoosh I do. Been doing them twice a week for about 10 years now so lots of practice! Not going too near the cuticle or sides is the best trick for a professional look.

Giraffe5 · 12/09/2015 23:14

Stripytees they look great. I have that colour on at the minute

I am wearing OPI Miami Beet on nails and toenails right now. A deep red autumnal color, although autumn has not arrived yet where I live.

My favorite nail look is short and red.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 23:16

Thanks for the tips stripy, I'll give that a go!

Giraffe5 · 12/09/2015 23:35

I can never get a neat gap around the edge

I do mine to match what I"m wearing. I currently have silver metallic on.
Stripey you could be meGrin.
Loves nail varnish me. I'm obsessed with it. I find painting my nails very therapeutic.

Pandora978 · 13/09/2015 00:22

I love red nail varnish, although I tend to wear it more on my toes than fingernails. But I have no problem wearing it on my hands, and with red lipstick as well. Maybe I'm just a tart. Grin

Recently I've worn dark pink with glitter over the top - it was to impress my nieces, and whilst I felt like an extra from My Little Pony I did love it. I wear glittery gold a lot now. I love the sparkles.

Pandora978 · 13/09/2015 00:23

Oooh forgot to say I've never cared for blue nail varnish but I saw someone recently who had the most amazing bright turquoise colour on. Asked her what make it was and apparently it's by Rita Ora! Had no idea she even had a nail varnish line but I'm going to get it now.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/09/2015 00:24

I love wearing glitter. It's gorgeous, but its a bloody PITA to get off

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/09/2015 00:25

DarkGrin

BoskyCat · 13/09/2015 00:26

I do like a sparkly one and so does DD. I even choose something Christmassy to wear at Christmas - even though it's on my toes and it's winter so no one see it except my own family. Last year it was butter london fairy cake

LoadsaBlusher · 13/09/2015 11:28

I like a pale neutral / coral / peach or pink in summer.
I tend to stick to dark red / burgundy / navy in winter.

I don't really like green / turquoise / glittery nail art but that's just my preference.

I don't think it looks as professional at work .
I don't think it co-ordinates with work wear as well, but I am a bit of a stickler for colour matching Grin

I'm currently wearing Poundland Pink Soda Nail Polish - bit ropey after my morning housework routine so will take off and reapply this afternoon.

Do you think nail varnish colour says something about you?
HolgerDanske · 13/09/2015 11:33

I love that colour, Blarblarblar! What brand/colour is it?

Don't usually wear red on my nails but would love that one for Christmas.

I'm a Shellac person, with cool toned skin, but with a beautician with a love of glitter! I usually resist the glitter, but sometimes I'm overwhelmed. I'm not really one for nail art for myself (although did have some polka dots for an event I was organising on my ring fingers once). I tend to go for bright pinks for the summer (my favourite is probably Cake Pop, sometimes hot Pop Pink). In the winter I tend to go for darker colours, like navy, or rouge noir-types, but I also like quite sludgy colours. Am wearing Cityscape (a cool grey) at the moment, which has had lots of compliments.

I keep my nails short and squoval, not keen on long nails at all.

Knackeredknitter67 · 13/09/2015 15:40

i like black, purple, or sometimes just a base coat and top coat.

BobbinThreadbare · 13/09/2015 19:20

I wear any and all colours (although I tend to favour dark, bold colours) and I do my nails 'squoval'. I always do them myself. I really don't like that white tipped look and the long plastic claws look awful.

I used to get compliments about my nails all the time, but now I pretty much just work with males and they don't notice. I started painting them to stop myself biting them, and it worked!

At the moment I've got Revlon's Chameleon on my fingers and a Bourjois navy blue on my toes.

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/09/2015 19:29

Mine are always painted, whatever colour I fancy, and it's never crossed my mind they were giving out some sort of message. I've just done my finger nails a very dark green - the new Chanel one - and my toes are dark red. My nails are always very short, I'm not keen on long nails, particularly those pointy acrylic ones.

HolgerDanske · 13/09/2015 20:26

This autumn I am thinking of a navy blue and a sort of plum colour or maybe berry.

But sigh, I always spend the money on other things...

mizu · 13/09/2015 21:25

Short nails always and currently red.

Love the look as the rest of me is rather slovenly eg tomorrow I will be wearing an old Toast grandad shirt and olive skinny cords to work but my nails will give me a bit of colour Grin
