I can recommend Hot Cloth Cleansing

Aquamarine70 · 12/08/2015 13:14

I am a beauty therapist &! had always used a milk cleanser, & toner & removed with damp cotton wool pads. My skin has gone really sensitive and I was breaking out along my jawline & around the hairline. I bought the Sanctuary Hot Cloth Cleanser & I really like it. I use ordinary flannels & heat them in the microwave. My skin feels really clean and the flannel gently exfoliates. I spritz after with rose water toner then use serum & nightcream. My skin feels really smooth.

Defo get on the fish supplements.

BeautifulBatman · 13/08/2015 16:03

And try to avoid sugar as much as possible. Maybe not that easy for a teen but worth a go.

WickedWax · 13/08/2015 16:09

I'm a huge fan of hot cloth cleansing, I've been doing it since I was a teen and it was called washing your face with a flannel.

I'd never use a hot flannel every day though, really bad for your skin. Dipped in lukewarm water is fine.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 13/08/2015 16:10

I love the LE one, I mostly use an ordinary flannel rather than her muslins though.

I have a Estee Lauder serum, and the LE superskin oil that I use at night - plus my usual Elemis moisturiser.

I also really like the Clarins oils to go over my moisturiser at night - the blue orchid one is amazing and lasts forever.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 13/08/2015 16:18

Thanks Batman - so how do you clean your face with oil? Just rub it on then hot-cloth it off?

BeautifulBatman · 13/08/2015 16:22

Yep! Massage it all over - any decent balm or oil will remove all make up too. If you wear a face full of make up then cleanse twice. Rinse of each time with the flannel and hand hot water. I can honestly say it's the best thing that has happened to my skin since I found hcc and acid toners.

avagosling · 13/08/2015 16:27

I'm a fan of naturals too. I mix half castor oil with half some other oil, most often jojoba. Like dissolves likes, so the oils dissolve the oils in the make up and help remove it effectively, simples. Afterwards I like to moisturize with camellia or tamanu oils, those have been godsent for problematic skin.

BeautifulBatman · 13/08/2015 16:28

Or organic coconut oil.

WickedWax · 13/08/2015 16:30

Any recommendations of where to buy oils from?

readyforno2 · 13/08/2015 16:33

I use coconut oil. You can get huge tubs in Costco

cunchofbunts · 13/08/2015 16:35

I use this: www.cebraethicalskincare.co.uk/uncover-me-mild-oil-cleanser/ A little goes a very long way and I've been using it for three years and not a single spot in that time!

maureendaly · 13/08/2015 16:36

If I notice a lot of make up on the cloth does that mean that the actual cleanser isn't doing its job properly and I'm just rubbing it off with the cloth? I'm thinking that the cleanser should be dissolving the make up with very little left to come off on the cloth, so I either need a different (better) cleansing balm or need to massage a bit longer? Or maybe it's normal to see a lot of make up come off on the cloth?

BeautifulBatman · 13/08/2015 16:37

Wicked amazon sell coconut oil for cleansing. For a facial oil (after toner, before moisturiser) BodyShop vit e.

BeautifulBatman · 13/08/2015 16:38

maureen it doesn't make makeup just disappear. Yes it's totally normal to see makeup on the flannel.

maureendaly · 13/08/2015 16:45

Thanks Batman, that's reassuring that the balm is working fine.
I've been looking at my manky cloth after I finish cleansing and not quite believing that I put so much orange gunk on my face on a daily basis. Of course it doesn't look orange when it's actually on my face, but it sure looks orange on the cloth!

trevortrevorslatterfry · 13/08/2015 17:35

So do you need oil and moisturiser batman? I think the moisturiser is giving me spots too!

Or will the oil-cleansing cure me of my problem so I can then use normal moisturiser? Sorry I am being a bit thick Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/08/2015 17:53

Groovee- I can really recommend the Neutrogena scrub for black heads, it's fantastic for ds, he uses it in the evening and then by the morning they are busting out of his pores like magicGrin

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 13/08/2015 18:20

what works well to reduce pores after hot cloth cleansing? It has really calmed my break-out prone skin down but I need something to smooth over / close my pores up

Heathcliff27 · 13/08/2015 18:29

Maximise - how do you use the aqueous cream for hcc. Do you just put loads of cream on face then wipe it off with hot cloth?

MaximiseProductivity · 13/08/2015 18:36

Yes, basically Heathcliff. Massage it gently and wipe off with the warm cloth. Not "loads" just enough, or it can take a few goes to get it all off.

I do it twice as double cleansing too and have hardly had a spot in months.

Heathcliff27 · 13/08/2015 18:41

Thanks for that, i'll give it a go tonight. I always have aqueous cream on the go and might as well use it for this as well.

Aquamarine70 · 14/08/2015 10:08

SlinkyB I wet them in cold water & squeeze out. I do it on high for 1 min. My micro isn't that high powered so 40-50 secs may be enough if high wattage. I shake it & by the time I've walked back into the bathroom it has cooled slightly. As I am Australia we can't waste water so I would run the tap for ages otherwise to get it hot.

Closer, I use cold water splashed on my face to close pores at the moment.

I've just started hot cloth cleansing but I've moved to a bedsit where the hot water isn't very hot and you have to turn it on by a switch and remember to turn it off again which is annoying. I'm slightly loathe to change the dial on my electric shower but I think using that as my source of hot water is my only option!

I soak a microfibre (as you would use for cleaning) cloth in hot water, wring it out and lay it over my face for a few seconds pressing it around my nose and chin. I then put normal cleansing lotion over my face and then wash it off with the flannel which has been sitting in the hot sink. Then I let the water out and splash my face with cold water and then use an oil-balancing moisturiser as I have yicky oily skin.

Every time I start a face cleaning regime I get a couple of spots but this seems to have produced the least so far. My skin feels lovely and I find this an easier way to wash my face than by splashing water at my face.

Is there a benefit to using an actual "hot cloth cleanser" rather than milk cleanser? I'm tempted by the superdrug one.

BeautifulBatman · 14/08/2015 14:26

Trevor - this is my ritual (morning and evening). Hot cleanse with balm/coconut oil. Then use a toner after cleansing to 'close' pores. Clearasil Berry extract pads are good. The acid (good acids!) in the pads are great for controlling break outs. Then serum or oil (I go between Clarins Lotus £££, Bodyshop Vit E serum oil ££, and Superdrug Brightening Serum/Moisturiser £). Then moisturiser. Bodyshop Vit E DAYTIME moisturiser is lovely and light.
