Anyone else constantly drawn to clothes that they KNOW do not suit them?

I don't know why but I am always drawn to silky pastel blouses and white cotton shirts. They do not suit my body shape or my colouring but I just keep buying them. And when I wear them I look like I am wearing school uniform.

I've reached the stage where I think "sod it, I like it so I'm going to where it" even if it's not the most flattering thing. After all, who cares but me?!? My only caveat is that is not indecent...

I love the swishy flarey midi skirts, but they don't really work with my massive bosom and mummy tummy, but hey ho! Life's too short to worry that much

Me! I love the over-sized dress/top & skinnies look. I know it only looks trendy on skinny women. With my boobs and bum I look like I think it makes me look slimmer while in fact making me look much larger. Still keep trying though. sigh

i keep making clothes that are for another me with a much more dressed up life. I wear them 1/2 and then admire them hanging up but wear my usual leggings and tunics.

GlaceCherries - I also love maxi skirts but as a 5ft pear shape they really don't work on me. CremeDeSudo - I also go for that look sometimes, but the top has to be really loose. I still haven't found a look that I'm actually happy with. Fitted clothes are probably the best but are so uncomfortable.

I keep wanting to buy structured dresses more suited to those who work in a formal environment. I own one, and I love it. I would love to buy more. Also shirts, they just don't suit me, but boy do I want some more. I see them everywhere. Gah!

I would love to wear crew neck styles, but with big boobs, scoop neck or v neck are the only style that don't make me look matronly! Same with certain colours I would love to wear but don't suit me.

I'm usually good at knowing what suits my body shape, but my nemesis is the shift dress. I love a 60s look, but shift dresses make me look like a square, because I have a v small waist but big hips/bum. I buy them wistfully, then return them.

I love tops from East and bottoms from M&S. They are pretty, comfy, good quality. However I am in my late 30s and I look like my mum.

I would love to be able to wear 1920s style flapper dresses but since I have huge boobs I know they would look ridiculous on me! What did help me though, was getting my colours/style done so now I know what really DOES work on me and I leave the rest well alone. Much happier now and I look fab!

Whenever I search for tips, all the advice for my shape (petite, pear, short waist, stumpy legs) it all contradicts itself. I'm clueless.

I've also reached the, 'Sod it' stage. I love white shirts, either plain longline ones or slightly boho ones. White makes me look even more pale than usual, and button down shirts make me look bigger and bustier than I am. However, I've decided to wear them anyway and have been perfectly happy in them.

Ditto turtle necks - LOVE black ones but am norky. Wore them all last A/W anyway, and intend to do so again this A/W.

Every summer I used to buy something white in either linen or cotton thinking it looked cool and/or sophisticated. I do not suit any pale colours next to my skin - I have finally stopped doing this.

I also buy a lot of shirts from Gap - I don't suit shirt collars. But, I've found if I wear them open over something else, I can get away with them.

I wear Converse despite being short in stature. I have been wearing them since my teens (when I was very slim and small) and don't intend to give up now (in my forties) even though I should probably always wear some kind of heel to look slimmer

amarmai I too have naice dressy up clothes which don't suit my lifestyle but sod it I love looking at them too. One day I will get to wear them! (They're not ball gowns or anything like that but they could be a bit too much for a walk in the park and the school run iykwim!)

Ronnie, I got my colours/style done about 15 years ago, don't think the woman does it anymore but either House of Colour or Colour me Beautiful do it. It cost me £125 but it was well worth it. No more fashion mistakes! I also thought Gok Wan's book was good on shapes too.

Yes. I really love flowy smock tunics. But with big chest it's a big no no. I end up looking pregnant and my boobs stick out like a sore thumb.

It's tricky finding a balance. There are certain looks that I really love - sort of Grace Kelly/Audrey Hepburnish and I feel there must be a way to make that look work.

A beige/cream trenchcoat with epaullettes and wind flaps I have always hankered after. And long camel coat. Height of sophistication in my opinion. Trouble is at 5'3" and busty I look more like one of Michael Bentine's Potty Time people showing bloody age

What's really silly in my case is I know full well which styles do and don't suit me, yet I still want to go oversized!

I'm 4'11" and in my head I am willowy, tall and slim and dress as though I am. I probably look like a hobbit whatever i wear but I have given up giving a shit.

I spent a decade wearing grey. I look like I should adorn a mortuary slab in grey. Why??

I love grey. Have to stop myself buying it! It my defence, I think it suits me. Although maybe I'm wrong?

I had my style done by HoC and was diagnosed as a Romantic Classic. I have always been, and still am, drawn to Dramatic stuff (block colour, angular patterns, structure, zips, etc).

Not saying that I am slavishly following HoC to the extent of ignoring anything else - quite the opposite when I first got diagnosed - but I know that they were right. I am a curvy pear shape and nothing about me is dramatic at all. I just like it :/

Val, I wear my naice dressy up clothes every day. Life's too short not too.

A Shop Assisstant asked me if I'd been anywhere nice and I said no, I just always wear a dress like this.

I know a v neck suits me better,me having a big bust too but most of my recent stuff is crew neck . I don't worry about minor details like that. I like to wear youthful styles too.

We went to an attraction recently and the Assisstant tried to charge us full price till I pointed out I was a pensioner.

She apologised and said I didnt look it. The light must have been so dim she couldn't see my wrinkles . Maybe we need to carry ID.

I don't think I own anything grey. I come from the Christine Hamilton school of fashion. Plenty of colour. I think I need it as I age.

I love colour. I think colours can affect our moods. I went to a lecture recently by a lovely man dressed all in pink. He had dowsed what colour to wear that day and pink it was. Good on him I thought.

I tried to get oh into a nice pair of red trousers and mint green trousers but he wasnt having any of that.
I've bought him a lovely bright green and bright blue shirt that he sort of blinked at but got himself a new pair of wranglers to go with it. We must look like a pair of peacocks walking down the street lol

I bought a bright pink boob tube dress yesterday for my holiday .( bra will be worn with it!)
It will go lovely with my tan.
