Does a list like this exist anywhere? if not, shall we create one?

I can think of the following:

Laura Ashley - 'Romantic'

All Saints - 'Alternative'
Karen Millen - 'dramatic'
Michael Kors - 'Glamorous'
La Redout - 'Classic'
Monsoon - 'Ethnic'
Ralph Lauren - 'Preppy'
Boden - Classic with a touch of bonkers Grin

You get my drift.

I suppose I'm wondering if there are any shops I've overlooked which may be my kind of style (classic/dramatic).

Can anyone explain urban outfitters?? Wtf are they for??

vic1981 · 11/08/2015 20:14

"Are you jealous because you can't afford Joseph?"... Touched a nerve there?!

Coastingit · 11/08/2015 20:32

Why am I suddenly offending people left right and centre on here lately?! I honestly didn't think offence was so easily taken.

I have a jacket from Joseph and most of my wardrobe is from Hush fwiw.

nilbyname · 11/08/2015 20:39

Hush- lux pjs for long limbed yummy mummies

Toast- ethical outdoorsy

Urban outfitters- achingly cool know it all

Top shop- trendy skinny teen

Boden- jazzy mumsy

Joules- horsey mumsy

White stuff- jazzy/surfy mumsy

Fat face- surfy mumsy

Karen Millen- wag

Reiss- officey wag

All saints- goth lite

nilbyname · 11/08/2015 20:40

Zara- continental trendy

TeaAddict235 · 11/08/2015 20:47

"Are you jealous because you can't afford Joseph?" Hmm

Come on, this is tongue in cheek. It's about the impression that you get from stores when you go in or online and look at their garments. Of course we will all sense different things from different stores, but that is because we are all different.

Chchchchanging · 11/08/2015 20:51

New look are in significant growth, no soon to be history about it

stevienickstophat · 11/08/2015 20:51

Next (suits) - first job out of uni
Monsoon - can't fit into Fat Face any more but in my heart I'm a student
Boden - see you at Camp Bestival
Joules - see you in North Norfolk
Hobbs - I've paid my student debt off
All Saints - ageing rock chick
Topshop - cool girl
East - hippy mum at a wedding
Karen Millen - Grimsby Town WAG
Cath Kidston - cupcakes, Aga, Labrador, citalopram.
Reiss - face it. You all want to be me.

Disclaimer - have bought stuff from all these places (except East. So far.)
White Stuff - primary school teacher

stevienickstophat · 11/08/2015 20:51

Don't know why White Stuff is at the bottom. Duh.

MiracletoCome · 11/08/2015 20:53

M&S, Next, GAP, Dorothy Perkins - A bit boring but their vanity sizing makes me feel slimmer, and I am quite old and shop in all of these.

Bon Marche and BHS - for the very old - DM loves both of these, she is in her 80's

Monsoon - Christmas party style

Joules is a bit Laura Ashleyish

Boden, White stuff and Fatface for middle aged mum style - I also shop in these.

Hobbs - upmarket Next office stuff.

nilbyname · 11/08/2015 20:55

Ha ha, love the reiss comment!

For the record I shop at-
Zara, top shop, all saints, Johnny b, h and m!

SuperFlyHigh · 11/08/2015 20:56

I think most people don't make blatant statements about fashion or not..

ah well then

Boden - wanky posh mummy with 2.4 kids, 4 x 4 Sloane tractor and labrador
Hush, M+Em/Toast - posh stupid womenswear for women who like badly made stuff that looks they don't have to try to hard
my 'friend' Dulcie's clothes - rabbit and other fur because it looks nice and poncey silk slip dresses that only look good on Sienna Miller et al
whistles - trying to be hip but failing miserably, you write a blog you're not a bloody proper fashion journo love

Verbena37 · 11/08/2015 20:56

Help !! Someone say something positive about one of them or I'll have absolutely nothing to wear!!, Grin

Sansarya · 11/08/2015 20:58

M&S Per Una is awfully frumpy. They take an ok item of clothing and then add about ten frills or ruffles too many. Hideous. M&S Limited Collection on the other hand, used to have some really nice stuff. Not sure what it's like these days as I no longer live near an M&S.

Verbena37 · 11/08/2015 20:59

Sandwich - quirky with some pieces that shout WTF is this??

nilbyname · 11/08/2015 21:00

I like whistles! I'm definitely trying to look cool and read fashion blogs...I'm a lost cause! Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 11/08/2015 21:03

oops nilbyname didn't mean it really! Smile disclaimer have had a shitty week so far ill on sunday night

polyhymnia · 11/08/2015 21:04

I like Whistles too. And I'm old and not uber trendy.

pomBearPooPouffe · 11/08/2015 21:05

East - Monsoon for the rich
Jigsaw - Monsoon for the rich with some colour sense
Kew - Jigsaw for those sick of the awful quality in Jigsaw
Boden - 50% for those fed up with not being able to get to Kew; 50% bonkers for people with no idea what they look like
John Lewis own brand - for those sick of the price of Boden

(Reiss is 98% completely ridiculous, but the remaining things are beautiful fabric, beautifully cut, beautifully made and exactly what i still want to wear >10 years after I've bought them...)

SuperFlyHigh · 11/08/2015 21:07

Oliver Bonas - I'm a hip young trendy thing really - so you're a slummy mummy of 30 who thinks their Poem range looks good - whereas in real life it rarely sells as it looks like rubbish

Vero Moda/Vila - I like to look edgy and cool and young for my age on a budget

le petit fucking bateau - I'm rich and slim cos I starve myself to look good for my DH, smoke like a trooper and have teeny tits so I can fit into their kids vest tops

White Company - I like a clean, relaxed, pure look - in reality I'm a slattern

Vivienne Westwood - I'm zany and wacky and a bit alternative - no love you're a sheep following fashion who likes to think you're unique

burnishedsilver · 11/08/2015 21:07

Actually, I think Karen Millen is moving away from the WAG look of late.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/08/2015 21:10

polyhymnia I used to like Whistles before they got a new designer about a year ago I got a caramel jumper that creased like buggery every time I wore it…

I also baulk at paying silly money for a denim mini skirt with buttons (get same on high street) even their t-shirts are expensive for what they are. and the acrylic/manmade fibres don't get me started.

Laska42 · 11/08/2015 21:12

This is v. depressing. The last few things I have bought and loved were from Monsoon and Laura Ashley oh and I bought a couple of tops and pair of sandals in the Boden sale

I also like Hush and Toast..

Hello my name is Laska and it seems that I am officially a Middle Class, Unsexy Frump..

Ah well.. someone has to be.. Wink

Anerak · 11/08/2015 21:16

Hahaha at :
River Island - Sex please, 24/7
I look at the quality of the clothes in the store then make a judgement of what kind of person with what kind of lifestyle could wear those.
Karen Millen, I could tell a lot of stories. Since she left he company they've tried to take the brand in a new direction and no longer want to be seen as matching jackets with dresses or accentuating everything feminine - which is a real shame as their clothes before she left were excellent cut and quality of if they were favoured sometimes by people who seemed "tacky". So now the brand churn out masses of 'casual-chic', (read cheap rubbish), for extortionate prices that they can barely give away at 75% off in the sale - or can only sell at 75% off to people who know nothing about the brand but only want to own something from it because of the status they perceive Karen Millen clothes to have thanks to it's previous reputation. Seriously, a 'silk' vest: front panel silk, back panel polyester-masquerading-as-silk with visible overlocking on the seams, (3 thread - how many more corners can they cut) = £95. Surely they must know that this will just not sell. And they wonder why the brand is losing so much appeal/money.

Flaperon · 11/08/2015 21:23

Mint Velvet - floaty grey stuff, more expensive Per Una
Boden - High Round Necks, mumsy
Zara - everything three sizes too small
Toast - expensive linen sack
Dotty P - awful colours
M&S - awful nearly everything
Cos - angular (Mr Bod)
Baukjen - boring and clingy
Gap - we don't do standard sizing
Banana Republic - upmarket Gap
Hoss Intropia - stuff you would nearly buy
Top Shop - your daughter
Hobbs - middle-aged businesswoman outfits for other people's weddings
