Powder foundation....do you luffs yours?

Bit of a first world problem this...

I have been using the Laura Geller baked foundation which I loved. But they have messed around with the formulation and its gone all powdery and horrible.

Do you use a powder foundation?

Lily Lolo, 100x better than Bare Minerals imho.

I dislike bare minerals as it is too powdery on my skin making me look (even) older

Is your brush (that you are using to apply) clean, dry and totally free of grease?

I ask this because recently I was outraged that lilylolo seemed to have changed their formulation, and it was all cakey with the palest particles of powder just sitting on top of my skin...turns out it was my brush I only found this out because I was about to email them and ask wtf they'd done to the new powder, and just by chance I happened to see Real Techniques brushes at a good price, bought one to try - and the powder was fine. Sooo glad I didn't email lilylolo to complain

Really dry and creepy skin and BM did nothing to help, LL is fantastic though , doesn't matter how much you slap on it still doesn't look cakey.

I could have written your post name change, I was seriously shopping around for a lily lolo alternative because it was looking cakey, but then bought a real techniques face brush and it looks fabulous again!

Using the right brush really makes a difference with LL ime too !

I love Jane Iredale. I prefer the loose powder texture but also have the pressed. It is a concealer, foundation and powder in one and has awesome coverage even when my PCOS-afflicted skin is doing its worse.

It takes a while to find a colour match and the loose powders are not the same colour as the pressed, despite sharing the same names, so you must try before you buy. John Bell & Croyden stock it, if you live in or near London.

I will definitely clean my brushes as they are manky.i have bought the Lily Lolo stuff to try as it is way cheaper!

Also might try the Iredale pressed stuff although I am nowhere near London

Another Lily Lolo lover here - I'm an old gimmer at 68, but decided some years ago to ditch liquid based foundations, and went for mineral powder. Started with Bare Minerals, then switched to LL not least because it's about half the price. I had dreadfully greasy skin when younger, but old age means it has dried out a lot! I find mineral foundation gives a "gentler" look, and is completely weightless to wear which I much prefer.

Ooh might have to give this a try as I like the idea of a powder foundation but couldn't get on with Bare Minerals as it cakes and drew even more attention to lines etc.

Can I throw in a recommendation for Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish? It comes in a pack that you twist to dispense the powder; it's great stuff.

Worth getting testers initially from LL as they have so many shades. I choose 3 and each tester will last over a week. Ime if it looks cakey it's the wrong shade, so worth testing out first.

Lily Lolo for me as well. I must have been wearing it for about 10 years now and everytime I decide to buy something different to try I go straight back to Lily lolo after a day or so. It always looks great, stays all day, and most importantly for me doesn't make me feel like I have make-up on my skin. Most other foundations make me want to scratch my face off. I include bare minerals in that.
Well worth getting some samples from them.

Another vote for Jane Iredale here, I swore by it when I had a spell of rosacea a couple of years ago.

I'd never heard of Lily Lolo. If it's a good as you all say, it's very reasonably priced!

My very pale, soft, crepey, 50 year old face loves Bare Minerals and the brushes they sell in the starter pack. I do keep them lovely and clean and have never had a problem... I sometimes use Well Rested alone and people comment how well I look.

I did have a problem initially, it looked powdery. But that turned out to be me overloading the brush. If you have some it may be worth trying again, tap the brush well... you never know.

But now I know what to buy if anything changes... Lily Lolo for LazyLouLou... mmmm

How do you keep your brushes clean?

I clean mine whenever I remember, every couple of months (ish). I first wet them thoroughly, but only below the barrel/metal part (I read somewhere that wetting that bit could loosen the hairs) and then rub gently onto a bar of antibacterial soap. After a quick rinse I wash them in baby shampoo, sometimes I'll add a couple drops of tea tree or rosemary oil with the shampoo because they too are antiseptic and smell nice and I am not allergic to them.

I squeeze them dry between my fingers, no rubbing or twisting, and then leave them on a hand towel to thoroughly dry out.

I have had the same brushes for about 10 years and they look and feel good as new. I think I got the instructions from a make up artist at The Clothes Show.

I don't always do the soap, but if I have some handy I will use it as it does seem to make the brush feel cleaner than just the baby shampoo.

I haven't washed it yet as fairly new still.

When I washed my old one, that's when it started to go funny I think! It was a cheapy Barbara Daly Tesco one though, so I'm hoping the Real Techniques one will stand up to washing a bit better. I washed it as per Lazy description above, but it started shedding bristles like a moulting dog straight afterwards.

Yes i use max factor facefinity compact foundation, which is a pressed powder.
i can't use any creams, liquids or mousses because my skin generates enough grease to run 10 chip shops. it has to be a dry powder.
i couldn't manage without my pressed powder foundation. if its ever discontinued i'm fucked.
